I bought a Mac Mini for $1k last quarter so I’ve done my part to prop up the AAPL stock price. Have you done your duty?

Lol. No Sir , I certainly have not.
Not because I don’t love some of their products. Simply because they are now unaffordable. (Actually it’s not that they are unaffordable so much but that they are suddenly relatively vastly expensive compared to just 2 yrs ago and the value proposition just doesn’t hold up)

Until corrected , no duty!

That's true, but it's nearly an 8% drop from the guidance they provided for what should be their biggest quarter of the year. That's truly bad news.
I don't know what to say. Yeah it's an 8% price drop, but it's still an astronomical amount of money. But it's apple, so the sky is the limit and anything less is not acceptable.

I’ve been upgrading my iPhone every year since the iPhone 3G days. This is the first year where I’ve held onto my iPhone X. The price increase has gotten out of control and I refuse to pay $2000CAD for a phone.

Oh and I was originally going to purchase a Mac mini, but held off due to the fact that they have the audacity to raise the price by $400 and put in 128GB base storage in a desktop computer in 2018

That is not the "Apple Tax." Head to head, Macs are about 25-30% more than a near-identical PC. Not having to deal with Windows is still worth it to me. The problem now is that no one cares about processor speed any more, save for the .5% of people who claim to care about VR. People just want to use the dang machine, and that mean software and services that can be counted on. And Macs to last much longer, twice a long as I have found in my IT consulting business.

iPhones and iPads stand alone, but Apple went stupid with the jacked up costs. And there are about 9 people in the entire world who can tell and OLED phone screen from a good LCD screen. It doesn't matter one single bit to the majority of consumers. I have the XS Max and I cannot tell the difference between it and my mom's iPhone 8 Plus screen.

I also have the new 12.9" iPad Pro, and I like the my 2nd Gen one better. The iPad Pro NEEDS about a .25-.33 bigger bezel around it so you can hold it without touching the active screen. The could make the footprint bigger and fill it up with battery. And they could ditch the notch.

The new MacBook Air I really love. I ditched a 5 month old 15" MacBook Pro to switch to it.

Angela Ahrents' marketing wants to make Apple just a luxury product. F that. They can be a premium-but-accessible brand and item.

Apple needs to stop telling people how beautiful their products are when 85% of them are immediately covered up with a case. It is no longer a selling point. Beauty is boring, it doesn't last and doesn't generate loyalty.

AAPL stock will get rocked in the morning, but the stock is already too stupidly low compared to cash and sales volume and EPS anyway. It is oversold and should be picked up by investors looking to hold off 2+ years. There is a market panic and sector issues to begin with, but a revision of a projection by about 6% really isn't a death knell, especially if the defined.

And since "supply constraints" were blamed by Apple... ummm... Time Cook is supposed to be a logistics whiz. He couldn't make enough product or get them from A to B fast enough? He needs to stop whining about the social cause of the day and run the damn company competently. Or better yet, not. Move him to "tech evangelist" (like the Guy Kawasaki of old) and get him out of the CEO position that he never should have had to begin with.

Spec-for-spec, if you show me just a 25% Apple Tax, I'll buy you the product! Did you see the post I paid $699 for a Mini with a 5400 RPM spinning drive?

Can you imagine the iCar price? You'll need a 30 year mortgage to pay if off. There will be a new paradigm in borrowing money when Apple gets through.

Wow, so basically they admit that their throttling due to "battery issues" was forcing people to upgrade their phones and upgrades have slowed since they allowed cheap replacements of batteries and the option to stop the throttling

I purchased a mini back in March 2018. $699 for a 5400 RPM spinning disk. Same speed as my original 2005 Mac mini LOLZ. First thing I did was put an SSD in there. Apple I guess has no shame using physical disks in 2018/19.
The new Mini uses a PCIE SSD. The only product that still uses an HDD is the iMac. It's just unsettling how absurdly overpriced their SSDs are.

LOL. You have data. A first of its kind.
Okay.

Let's see:

2007 - iPhone is $399 (after initial flub)
2019 - that would be $487 with inflation - where is my $499 flagship phone? (which honestly should still be $399 as tech gets cheaper, certainly storage is)

"Flagship" is a 100% arbitrary designation. The iPhone 7 is a great phone, and in your price range. Apple has introduced phones at other price tiers-- so what?

You forgot the /s tag.

If prices were lower I would have purchased an iPhone XS (upgrading from my 6S), a new MacBook Pro (I have the 2014 model) and iMac (instead I went from the 2012 to the 2015 model). So that’s 3 sales they’re missing out on. And I’ve been an Apple enthousiast since 2003.

Still, I’m also convinced the situation in China is out of their control and is indeed the result of the political climate. Unfortunately we can’t discuss the reasons for these problems on this forum.

But all in all, this is good news for consumers: they’ll have to change course now.

As I see it, the single worst thing about the iPhone lineup at the moment is price. Get the price just a little below as full fledge laptop (it’s a god damn phone) and see the sales come back

I'm typing on the mini now. For what I use it for; Coda, Transmit, Office, Affinity apps, it's great. My '12 MBP feels faster, but I'm not complaining. But I won't ever spend $1k for a mini.

That wasn't said as a statement of fact, although you are free to draw your own opinion.

Funny thing is that I have a dream kinda about this yesterday. The conclusion was obvious, the iphone is faster than everything in Android but what can we do with it that is better? iOS problem is that there aren’t nearly as good apps as there should’ve been with the power of apple hardware. I’m typing this on a ipad pro that does not deliver good, better pro apps than its competitors.

Yeah SSDs make a big improvement. The new base price for the Minis is kind of nuts.

$1000 or more for a phone every year maybe just too much for people these days. Perhaps a lower price point for the top models will help.

Good. Time for Tim to stop the grift. Price products appropriately. Customers first, not shareholders. A return to the days of a 30% 'Apple Tax' (as opposed to whatever eye-watering number it is at now) is long overdue.

You do realize that is actually illegal right? A company must put shareholders above employees and customers....this is an old law going back to when Dodge Brothers sued Ford.

Simple
Lower prices
$1500 iPhones
$1800 IPads
Not rocket science

Tim wanted to test what the market could bear.
Now the bear is bitting back.

Tim fell into his own Reality Distortion Field.

UPDATE:
55 billion dollars wiped out in 1 afternoon due to hubris.

Simpler:

XS/XS Max = Lower Prices significantly in-line to what they really offer -OR- Beef up iOS to a more competitive powerful OS. The age of a simple smartphone is dieing in China!!

Tim never had a Reality Distortion Field!!
^ All in his own head, never a reality; not even the Gauntlet from Infinity War could help him achieve that!

UPDATE:
55 billion dollars wiped out in 1 afternoon due to IGNORANCE. ;)

iOS, as shown with iPad 2018 models NEEDS to be more powerful, offer more. Stop insulting your customers by playing it 'way too safe' flirting with an idea. Start to deliver the iPad as a REAL computing platform ... not a smartphone platform!

The XS/XS Max/XR was announced and shipping almost the exact same timeframe as the X last year!

Apple!!
Your customers overseas are beginning to see that ONLY software is the difference between iPhone models 1 yr after the previous in the Tick/Tock state (iPhone 6-6S, 7-8, X-XS) yet you're charging huge fees that R&D cannot qualify!

Way to go Timmy!
