So, LTE isn't mature enough to be put in an iPhone, but Thunderbolt is to be put in a Mac? Where's the logic in that?!

I, for one, have 4G coverage where I live. Would someone like to tell me what use I have for Thunderbolt? Ridiculous.

I don't get why everyone is pissy over the 4 "GS" because the upgrade is "minor".

Did people no need the A5 vs A4 benchmarks in the iPad vs iPad 2?

It like saying that the 3G to 3GS upgrade was minor. The 3G to 3GS upgrade was probably the biggest leap in hardware.

Everyone is bitching because the case will stay the same...but all I have to say is 'so what'.

The inclusion of the A5 is a MAJOR upgrade. Period.

Duh! Finally glad this board has caught up to the word of the iPhone 4G / 4S / 4GS this summer and the iPhone 5 next year.

Do people not understand how numbers work? If this next iPhone is indeed named the 4S, the phone that comes out in 2012 will not be called the iPhone 5. How would that make ANY sense to name the 6th revision of the phone the #5?

There are two options here: iPhone, 3G, 3GS, iPhone 4, iPhone 4S, iPhone 6 OR keep the normal number system iPhone (1), 3G (2), 3GS (3), iPhone 4, iPhone 5, iPhone 6.

Your spiffy new A5 (which really isn't that great of a processor, compared to a lot of what's already in the Android universe) won't make a whit of difference when every app being released is designed to support the A-4 and millions of iP4 users.

It's like the PS3 v. 360 -- the PS3 is loads more powerful, but most games are designed to be cross-platform, so they're programmed to the 360's specs and the PS3 doesn't see it's increased muscle get flexed.

It's a minor upgrade. At best, you'll end up with a phone that launches Safari quickly only to see it bottlenecked by low-speed 3G access while everyone else screams by on high-speed connections. Congratulations, you just re-bought the last 14.4K bps modem while everyone else was going to Ethernet.

I think it will be called iPhone 5, and then subsequent revisions after that they should just clean slate and say "here it is, the new iPhone."

If the next iPhone isn't released before the end of August I'm just going to buy an iPhone 4. Don't think I'll be missing much.

can we get copy and paste?

I'd just be happy with GPS. Think about it map.app + GPS. I get giddy thinking about it. I can only wish.

i still think the iphone 5 will come june/july

despite the overwhelming number of rumors pointing to a september release (and the fact that there was no april ios 5 preview this year), part of me agrees with you. it would just feel so foreign to have a wwdc and not introduce a new iphone. who knows, maybe new airs will be the "one more thing" of the event.

HA,
You're a funny guy.
;)

This makes no sense. Increasing the full retail price of the iPhone will only increase Apple's cash reserves. That's great for shareholders, but it doesn't really affect customers since they won't put all of that windfall back into R&D.

Apple's margins on the iPhone are already stupendous; they are walking away with nearly 60% of the industry's profits despite their low market share.

Everybody says that is a good thing, so a slight price increase will be even better.

Ya, sure looks like the A5 gets trounced by those pesky Android devices

Can Nikon sue Apple for using their 'S' suffix for minor updates (eg D300 -> D300S and D3 ->D3S) ?

This update really isn't going to matter to me. I'm stuck with AT&T for another year because I had no frakking clue a Verizon iPhone would be a reality, nor did I know I would be THIS FRAKKING TIRED of AT&T's service around here. I don't know whether Verizon is any better, but it can't be worse without literally having no service.

I'm hoping that the sixth-gen iPhone to be released next year will carry some of what I have seen rumored: 4G LTE and a cell radio that will work on either Verizon or AT&T. By then I'm also hoping a 32GB model will cost $199 because I can't imagine a 32GB iPhone would be the top model at the end of 2012. I dropped a lot of coin on the 64GB iPad 2, so I can pretty much do without the extra storage since I got rid of my photos on my iPhone and can always kill the storage-hogging Zinio.

Not really surprise to see apple be late for LTE. They where pretty late going 3G so see them hold going LTE not a big deal. Besides I am not sure LTE is not a big deal right now but in a year it will be a very high requirement. I want to know what battery life will be of later gen LTE phone will be. Right now the thunderbolt suck down power but moreare hitting the market so time to see what their battery life will be.
