I don't get it. You buy a new iPhone and MBP every year? I thought Apple products were built like tanks and were meant to be owned for 4-5 years at least.

They're built like tanks for sure, but I'm not complaining if I'm given allowance every year from my company for a new laptop. And my monthly phone bill is high enough that I'm given a new phone by my carrier just to stick with them. I just sell off my old MacBook and iPhone to make up the difference for a new MacBook together with my company's allowance :)

Apple market share...

According to Wikipedia, Apple sold a total of somewhere between five and six million Apple II computers in total, including the Apple II GS. That would be about four to 4 1/2 months of unit sales at the current rate. Apple's PC revenue per year is about the same as the total company revenue up to 1991. So I don't really care what Apple's market share was back then; they are selling a lot more today.

True, but it's still kinduv exciting to see that in the next year, Apple might actually break it's all time market share record and also become the #1 PC vendor again.

And while I agree that absolute numbers are important, market share is also important because it determines the amount of software support a platform gets. Currently, Windows 7 is only at around 34% market share (last I checked) - imagine if in a few years both Mac and Windows 7 ended up around the same 25% - there'd be no "default" or "preferred" platform for software developers, so any serious or required application would have to include both. Then we'd have a true multi-OS culture, similar to game consoles.
