The good thing here is this app is Google free tracking and mining. :D
if we were to universally abandon other user tracking applications entirely this would mean anything to me.

good on apple that they demand transparency for privacy practices. them being the only ones interested in doing things right is very sweet and all. it means not a whole lot in the big picture.

All I want to say is if you’re applauding Apples move here, you have nothing to stand on if you complain about Amazon making clone products and putting small businesses out of business.

Sure Waze isn’t small and all, but it’s the use of their dominant position and financial means to snuff out small companies. Amazon or Apple, be careful what you wish for.

Being that the idea is ostensibly to get people to slow down, I'd say it's exactly their purpose.

No, the idea is to raise money from speeding tickets. Today's speed limits were made for cars in the 90's... You know, ones that don't have 10 speeds, 20" tires, computerized technology combined with the parts, and don't average 150-300 horsepower for a daily driver.

I've wanted this for so long since it was the only reason I kept using Waze even though I enjoy Apple Maps so much more, UI wise and the way it integrates with iOS far better. I even created an Apple shortcut so I could use Apple Maps but have Waze open in the background so I could still get notified of accidents, hazards and most importantly police of course. Right now, this feature of course is in beta, and in beta it's pretty hidden, so unless they add a notification alerting users about the feature it could easily go unnoticed and for this to be useful at all requires a lot of users to actively use it. If that happens that would be amazing, well not for Waze but for users at least.

I wish Apple would make it so if a non Apple user sends a pin that Google understands, which is basically just GPS coordinates, then it should understand it. Also if an Apple person sends a pin from Apple Maps to a google person, it doesn't work. Let's make it universal.

All people care about is where are the cops 👮‍♂️ 🚔
Yeah, well also harzards though too. Waze has saved me many times in that regard, though if you could only have the police option or "speed traps" as they call it is the one I imagine we all care about since even if you going with speed of traffic, if you happen to go a few mph higher than that just as your passing a cop you could get a ticket.

I still won't trust the speed trap indicator in the updated Maps app. It's not like it'll be 100% accurate, so a "speeding ticket" (even though the govt purposely makes the speed limit too low to make a profit) will still be a risk. Convince me otherwise.

I found this amazing life hack so you can’t ever get a speeding ticket, no matter how sneaky the cop is.

what you do is, when driving... you don’t exceed the posted speed limit.

Being that the idea is ostensibly to get people to slow down, I'd say it's exactly their purpose.

If people literally just slow down where they think/know there is a cop and speed up the rest of the way that kind of defeats the purpose.

im curious what logic you’re using to think that speed limits set in the 90s would no longer be applicable due to any of that.

Hmmm. I notice the "Add Stop" button. Will that allow me to search for other types of points of interest? I'd love to be able to search for rest stops, restaurants by name, cities, and various other places! To date, I've been frustrated with the three options (Dinner/Breakfast/etc., gas stations, and coffee).
That is correct. I just tried it now. I use this on Waze all the time (along the route feature). I’m glad Apple has it now, but I still want the ability to search for my own POI.

So far Apple only gives you six options and doesn’t allow you to type in a POI; only choosing from their six: Dinner, Gas Stations, Coffee, Parking, Convenience, and Charging Stations.

LOL- Waze is owned by Google. Thanks for the laugh

Very cool. The reporting accidents/speed traps feature in Google Maps is the one thing I really miss in Apple Maps.

I hope we get this in Canada straight away.

This is fantastic stuff! Little-byilittle, IMO, Apple is picking up momentum with their mapping application from a content quality and functionality standpoint. I have 14.5 installed and I thought I heard Siri telling me this the other day and I couldn't believe it (I thought I had Waze running! lol ... thank you MR for putting some color on how this works including in CarPlay). I've been a Waze user (and beta tester) forever but their innovation is slowing and I just needed something like this to get me to try returning to using Apple Maps. Waze still has an edge in crowd sourcing department with so many folks using their app and always updating the status of local driving but as Apple gains market share, their real-time solution in terms of what's happening at the time you're driving will get better and better.

Still won’t switch until they add the ability to search for a destination when adding a stop on a route instead of only the stupid presets. Makes no sense
