Yei, well done chaps and chapettes, now the whooping 8 countries of the world can enjoy climate-accurate shrubs and hand-crafted 3D monuments, while the rest of us still have to rely on Waze and Google.

That’s true, but the best job Google Maps is doing is not to drive you through your destination, but to provide your data to Google. So I try to use Apple Maps every time I can.
Seriously, get over the Google only wants your data crap, it’s played out now…. ???

Apple has been revamping its Maps app over the last few years, with the updated experience providing more detailed coverage of roads and buildings, faster and more accurate navigation, 3D views of landmarks in major cities, and more.

In light of those efforts, Apple recently sent a unique gift to some employees working on the Maps team, according to a LinkedIn post shared on Reddit. The gift package includes some custom Apple Maps pins, stickers, and imagery, along with a small card thanking employees for their contributions to the Maps app.

"Each and every one of you has your fingerprints on Springfield," the card reads, suggesting that "Springfield" might be Apple's internal codename for the revamped Maps experience. "Thank you for all of your distinct contributions to this product and for building on the legacy of great work here at Apple," the card adds.

Apple's revamped Maps experience is available in the United States, Canada, Australia, UK, Ireland, Italy, Spain, and Portugal.

"The map has been rebuilt from the ground up, with better navigation, richer detail, more accurate information for places, and remarkable features that only Apple can deliver, like Look Around, Share ETA, and more," said Apple's services chief Eddy Cue, when the revamped Maps experienced rolled out to Australia. "Now it is easier than ever for users to find the places they love and get to where they're going."

I didn’t know it had this feature but the other day traveling back home a message popped up and said ‘speed check ahead’ and over the hill was an officer waiting to catch a speeder.

One of Napoleon Bonaparte's methods of leadership. Give gifts as rewards for distinguished service, thus motivating his men to fight harder, be more loyal. "You call these medals and ribbons baubles; well, it is with such baubles that men are led."

These gifts have little monetary value, but have great emotional value. That is motivation for the Map team to do an even better job.

As someone at the foot soldier level, this sort of thing would be enough to motivated me.?
Junk like this would motivate me if I was still a kid, kind of like those gold and silver stars that teachers would place next to your name on a chart when you were in kindergarten. But as an adult, I see it more as an insult.

Want to thank me?

BTW, as someone who used to get gifts like this in Silicon Valley, the universal reaction by employees was “just give me money and keep your tchotchkes.”
Agreed. Unsolicited "swag" like this also makes me cringe when I consider the environmental impact of making zillions of some dumb promotional thing where most of them are gonna be thrown out immediately. At the very least, I think the responsible thing to do is have people request the stuff instead of sending it without asking.

This particular Maps thing looks kind of neat, but most promotional stuff is like, a cheap insulated mug with someone's logo on it. As if anyone needs another ****ing coffee cup or pen at this point.

I’m happy you provide for a credible alternative to Google, because of privacy reasons. But you still have a long way to go, especially regarding POI and commercial activities.
I cheat by looking up POIs elsewhere and using Apple Maps to actually get me there. It does a great job of that. I hope alongside all these refinements to the maps, Apple is making some moves to buy up some high-quality, current POI data and then keeping it updated.

Apple map is better than Google map on iPhone now. But hope it add offline map download.
Likely never, Apple is pushing for services so they want every device to be connected to a fat pipe. They would want to make data cheap for users, so you don't have to use offline maps. With 5G just around the corner, I doubt that would be necessary in the future.

Sell them the dreams, so they work for you free.

Yes, it’s a solution, but not so handy

Not sure why Tim Cook doesn’t want them to have this feature. When I’m in rial Vermont or Maine, having offline maps is HUGE!! Google is way ahead of Apple in this area.

Google Maps, tells you to drive 6 miles, make a U-Turn and go for 5 miles then turn right into the parking lot.

Apple Maps....In one mile, turn left into the parking lot.
I’ve had poor experiences with both. Since I use Apple Maps most of the time, I’ve had more poor directions from it than Google. I only use Google when Apple Maps screws up or I need offline directions.

I had horrible luck with Tim Cook’s Maps 2 years ago in Boston. Google saved the day!

The only time Apple Maps got something seriously wrong was when I was visiting Madeira… but Google Maps didn’t do a better job over there either.
