The only google thing I use is their maps app. It is very accurate and the search blows apple's map out of the water. I use it a lot just to get phone numbers to businesses, faster then searching online.

Because... ?

Because for 8 years, Google maps placed my home 1 mile west of where I really lived. I know this, not because I used Google maps, which I don't and won't, but because service and delivery folk have called for directions for 8 years, because their Google nav systems always took them to that address 1 mile west of my house.

lol, that really sucks! :D:rolleyes:

Apple maps have gotten a lot better since iOS 6. A lot more detail than google maps, like turnarounds on interstates and some private roads not visible on google maps. I use Apple maps when I have my iPhone and vice versa with google maps when I use my Note 3. They both seem pretty accurate to me.

Seems like the same split...

If you are

outside US -> Google Maps
insideUS -> Apple Maps is just fine.

I wish this was the case for me here in the Denver Metro and traveling around Colorado. I prefer the Apple Maps UI and navigation, but the POI locations are typically off, even if by a few blocks. This could mean not finding a particular place I have never been to before.

I still use Google Maps because I haven't had issues with the POI's being in the wrong spot. Hopefully Apple Maps will catch up soon.

Hey man, correct if I'm talking bollocks, but Google Maps isn't even 9 years old and Google Maps Navigation is only 4 years old. Even now, I kinda doubt it's the most popular navigation system for professional delivery services, over dedicated GPS satnav, so I find it hard to believe they've been using it solidly for 8 years.

Perhaps you should use Google Maps just once to find out if it really is its fault, lol.

This isn't a fair competition. Google maps play in a whole different league

it's like comparing an iPad to a crappy android tablet

They are pretty close in my area, but Apple edges out Google by a hair. They give generally the same directions, but Google makes more minor mistakes like turning right instead taking a dedicated turning lane to avoid a light and not recognizing some circles (instead of take 3rd exit, I get stay left at fork, stay left a fork, make the next right).
I also find Google's ETA to be too optimistic, while Apple's are too conservative. Reality seams to fall in the middle. Tough I'd rather be early than late.
As for PIO, I still trust Google more, but Apple has made huge strides in this area this year. In a recent trip we compared directions to locations using voice input via Siri and Google Now. Out of 5 trips Apple hit all 5 while Google got 3. Though Google did have these in the PIO when searching manually.

Is this even a question? Apple Maps are the worst maps I have ever used... even to the point to where my girlfriend (the fangirl if you will) won't even take her iPhone out for directions.

Always using my SIII for directions.

That's strange because Apple Maps gets me within the parking lot of every single address I've ever typed in, even in small towns such as Hubert, NC. And it's more specifically the turn by turn navigation, and not the maps, that people get confused.

Not saying everyone's experience is the same as mine, just sharing the experience that I've had.

Has Apple maps caught up with google maps yet? What are your experiences? Searching, points of interest, route accuracy?

What I have found is that Google maps searches are better. I am able to find more locations and it gives a broader search radius. I am unsure of routing though.

I like the look of Apple Maps most.

For daily routing, however, I use Waze. Only use Apple maps if I'm sure there's no traffic, and I like the interface.

Between the two of them I no longer have any use for Google Maps unless I'm trying to find something that Apple Maps is incapable of pulling up.

I went to a new states a few months back and attempted to use Apple maps to navigate to places.
It took me to places that no longer existed, and gave me directions to dead-ends.

I never used it again. I only trust Google Maps; never had a problem with it.

Apple Maps: Good UI at first, got worse in iOS 7, reliable directions.
Google Maps: Horrible and laggy UI always, just as reliable directions.
I live in California and have driven across the East Coast.

So I use Apple Maps on my iPhone, Google Maps on my Mac because I don't have Mavericks (because it sucks).

Apple Maps -- Love the UI and directions, POI lacking but have improved in the US and worked well for me

Google Maps -- Awesome POI, but awful directions for me...always trying to take what it thinks is the shortest route and usually is some backward bad side route. And they haven't caught up on a lot of rpoper road rules in many areas (illegal turns, etc.)

Here+ on Windows Phone -- Best of both worlds...great POI and awesome driving directions with high end GPS features. Just wish the UI was more like Apple's

Waze -- Use it on all phones for commuting just because of the traffic info...and I know where I'm going. Don't trust it for general directions for the same issues I have had with Google.

Just to play devils advocate (not really) I couldn't stand Waze. Last time I used it it had a goofy avatar thing and you "leveled up" in a sense. I even remember driving over things collecting things like pacman!

Am I the only one that found that lame? Could you possibly make a gps app more dangerous? Screw driving! You're playing the GPS game now!

Maybe I'd use it if I was a 12 year old passenger. Lol

You can turn that crap off...I did...It has voice activated warning settings so you don't have to take your eyes off the road. I typically don't contribute, but it's pretty damn amazing at telling me where police are, cars on the shoulder, upcoming traffic...

Just need to set it up properly.

I use waze for my daily commute. Mostly because of the speed traps. There is a good reporting group on my route. Saved my some speeding tickets!

How can an app work for some people and not others? I've used Apple maps in many states and always get to the parking lot of whatever address I put in. Apple gets this data from other sources, they don't create it themselves and fudge areas just to make people get lost, do they? I'm confused as to how some people can't get the same results as the rest.

Hey man I do believe you are talking bollocks ... 8 yeas ago the common phrase was to "Google it" and then let the wizards at Google take you to your destination, which for service and delivery folk was 1 mile west of where I lived. I just checked the current implementation of Google Maps. Well ... at least they have me on the correct side of town ... 8 houses west of where I lived. I guess that's close, which on active duty we always added "close enough for **** fights, hand grenades, and nuclear bombs."

Google maps/Waze failed to get me to a house in a smaller city (just brought me to the city)

Apple maps brought me right there after I fired it up.

+1 to apple maps

Here at least, Apple maps is still rather inaccurate. It still thinks there is a non-existent bank down my road amongst other errors.

It doesn't bother me since I never need a maps app anyway. I know my local area just fine.
