Actually... this is true. He probably would have never allowed them to change the Apple homepage away from their products to a remembrance about him.

When George Harrison died, he had no problem to put a picture of George on the Apple frontpage for a number of days.

I think Steve would approve that you have to watch the video before you can get to the web site.

He is missed. I don't doubt that say the botched job on Maps could have happened if he was still there -- his anger at Google is probably part of the reason it happened at all -- but I do wonder if there's anyone at the company today as pissed about the mess as he would have been.

^THIS^

I wish only the best for Steve's loved ones and those he left behind, but this thread is somewhat nauseating.

I have zero problem with people expressing their condolences and maybe even some sadness, but many people on this board are treating this man (a man of many flaws, just like the rest of us) like a deity and one person even called him "immortal".

To each his own, I guess, but this whole thread makes me uncomfortable.

That said, Steve was excellent at what he did and, sadly, died too soon.

Surely none of this surprises you. So the question is, why did you read it?

The other thing Steve did was relentlessly dispose of the old and introduce the new. He tried to make all his customers early adopters.

So while Apple will retain institutional memory of the procedures Steve espoused, I think Steve himself would insist it is time to move along.

It would be very cool if they would simply run that, as is, as a long form TV ad. Spend a little money and share your philosophy and remberances with the world.

This is preposterous, Steve would never have let this happen.

(jk)

In all seriousness, having read the bio, I feel that he would have approved of it one moment because he was so full of himself, then disapproved a moment later because he didn't like appearing so hungry for attention.

Ultimately, it would go up anyways because someone at the company would insist and hound SJ until he allowed it, even if SJ made the person cry first. (SJ might have cried, too.)

Emotionally stable is not something SJ could have been described as.

In any event, I approve of this and feel bad for having brought up some of his more negative traits on such a date. He's still in my short list (4 people) of role models/heroes.

the video is great and touching and all... but Tim needs to be less corny and touchy feely.. Apple isn't God and the be all end all

It still brings tears to my eyes. His legacy will take time to fade, but it will fade. That degree of uniqueness is too complex to be embedded in a culture. We will never know what we missed. When the technology develops and becomes ready for the next big gestalt switch, Steve won't be there to ensure that it happens in a manner that we can all just appreciate. He won't see it, translate it and make it compatible with life.

He wasn't perfect and others have better individual insights, but his holistic vision is now missing. There are few individuals that take the insights of their time and drag an entire civilisation forward. He did that. That is not hyperbole. As with all great people, the reality is more complex and less brilliant that we may romanticise it to be, but he was the only non variable in the equation.

When I think of him I still think WOW. I always will.

Not negative at all, he was a human after all.
I do not think faking/hiding what we feel is wise. Because we can always say - I am sorry.
Wasn’t that the main myth against women in charge of corporations?

Well, Steve is a proof that juggling with your emotion is not a requirement to be a CEO.

Yes, but I think they would have used that extra year and put Apple Maps in iOS7 (If I have my facts correct. I ready that the contract for Google Maps in iOS had another year before expiring)
-- his anger at Google is probably part of the reason it happened at all
Totally!

No way. People often mistake Steve Jobs as an inventor. His genius was at business and his attention to detail. He did not create any of the things that made Apple the biggest company in the world, but he did try to make those things "perfect" in every way. I do not think anyone has that level of detail that goes across all aspects of Apple's products.

Yeah, they did not use FCPX.
So what did they use? iMovie?

Here is a video of Steve Jobs addressing employees and laying out the new Apple philosophy just after he returned in 1997:

Very hard to believe that he is gone. Even though I have a lot of respect for Tim Cook, nobody will ever be able to replace him at Apple. People like Steve are ones out of millions.

I have a large collection of his keynotes and presentations from NeXT and Apple so I tend to watch them sometimes to remember the good times.

The point is you dont know the guy, you bought stuff (you really liked to use) from the company he also worked for.

Plenty of people shape the world or help people(if jobs actually did that), going to mourn them all?

Its sad for his family and friends, not for the people who just wanted more stuff he worked on.

You're so wrong. It isn't like I'm sad that he is dead, it is upsetting that someone who had an objective of changing the world no longer can. My career, my education, and my passion have all been related to technology. Some people care about politics, some about history, some art, some science, etc - for me it is technology. There is nothing wrong with having an idol that you don't personally know. If you don't, I recommend you do to better your life and career.

I really hope Tim steps it up, because the way Apple is heading reminds me of post-Jobs era the first time around. However, it may take a little longer for it to fail completely.

Yes the new iPhone is thinner and lighter, but I think its time to innovate something different.

Why then Bugatti Veyron is credited as a creation of the then President of Volkswagen?
And didn‘t Jobs left some patents at Apple?

You mean not the originator, because you stated that he really did leave his input on the things you think make Apple what it is, which is a contradiction.

Why?
• After all what sets Apple apart from the cartel that sells windows PC’s is the WHY the cartel now do anything to clone Apple distinctive design - to blur the space that sets Apple away from their league, attention to detail.

Very tastefully done. I wonder if this will become the staple video for Apple's memorial for Steve, should they choose to make it a yearly thing

CNN was re-tweeting messages that users posted to their accounts.. All to the tune of "Steve taught us______". Because i deleted my twitter account i wanted to post what i would have posted to twitter, and that is:

Steve taught us that it is okay to wear the same outfit everyday!!

Rest in peace Steve. Really wish that you were still here to deliver amazing products to the world! It's really sad knowing that you are no longer here to help guide the world in becoming immensely better.
