Surprised at the positive comments on this one. I’ve always thought Shazam was a joke for an app. I downloaded it years ago when people thought it was kind of neat how accurate it was. I have NEVER needed such a service. If I don’t know a song, 9/10 it isn’t playing at the moment (It’s just stuck in my head).

Regardless of whether it’s in my head or playing on the mall music list, just google a line from the song and you will have it just as fast as opening up the app etc.

IMHO this would be a complete waste of money to have what is truly a gimmick (and people on this site throw that phrase around a lot).

The Verge has a much more interesting article on this, speculating that Shazam's lesser-known AR technology is likely the main target.

If so, I think that makes every comment posted so far irrelevant. :)

Actually, assistant just added this feature not to long ago.
Also, this feature works for me 98% of the time with siri. How strange…
Google Assistant has been able to identify songs for a long time and better than Shazam. Aside from Google's great accuracy, even in noisy environments, the best part is that you don't have to make the request through the worst voice assistant on the market:. Siri.

Hence the Shazam logo on the bottom right corner!
I’ve only ever asked Siri to name this tune couple of times so I did t pay close attention to Siri plugging Shazam.

Do you really think it’s easier to type lyrics to a song on google than to just ask Siri (or Shazam)? Sure if it’s just a song that’s stuck in your head and not playing at the moment, but isn’t it what this is for, to search for a song playing at the moment that you don’t know about? If you didn’t know about it then it can’t be stuck in your head :p

I feel like this is one of those “I don’t need/use it, so its existence is unnecessary” posts.

There are millions of people who use it and find it quite useful.

Shazam built into Apple Music makes a lot of sense.

Since Siri started coming with it built in, I just deleted the Shazam app. The only thing I missed was a running playlist of all the songs I asked it to identify. It’ll be great for Apple Music to keep a record and use my song identifications to build playlists and continually improve on recognizing my musical tastes.

Cool story, bro.

I for one find it useful.

That's great when I know a line.

Or, scratch that, even then it isn't great. Because launching the app and tapping the big fat button is even greater.

Functionality (n): something not everyone may benefit from, not diminishing its usefulness.

Beats is one of the worst deal ever happened in company purchasing history.

Beats gave them the second-biggest music streaming service*, healthy revenues from a popular headphone brand, and expertise and standing in negotiating with the music industry.

Pretty good deal, it seems.

*) And the biggest isn't doing so hot financially.

Folks, it has been built into iOS and Apple music for a long time and has worked wonderfully well.

It might be for their tech that can allow Siri to identify speech and other phrases better to better understand what people are asking if Shazzam can identify music and TV shows better than other services
Shh ... don't use logic.

It’s in a weird place, but if you go to the iTunes Store app, tap More, and then Genius. Then Tap the list icon in the upper right corner and you will find a Siri list of everything it has Shazzamed for you.

Yeah, acquiring Beats remains a questionable purchase to this date, but I guess the minimal benefit from the purchase was worth it to Apple. I know some will say it’s Apple’s best purchase ever, but I don’t think they would say that if they were thinking with a clear head. Maybe it’s more about removing the competition and potential “ammunition” that a competing company could use if it acquires it first than acquiring something of real good value to the company, especially when it comes to services/software.

Knowing Apple, they'll take the tech and shut down the app and force you to use the Music app or Siri to "shazam". Spotify support will also be removed. Thankfully there will still be SoundHound after Apple runs Shazam into the ground.
