No wonder iPad sales are tanking. We need it to actually DO more not just hardware upgrades. I barely use my iPad since I got the iPhone Plus.
Things stayed in the pipeline so long that now they started to reproduce themselves ...

Well, if an iPad mini with the latest pro specs makes an appearance, I think I would replace my old mini 2. Just sayin'

I have an iPad 4 collecting dust somewhere in my house, no actual use for it.

I got some audio applications for it but I need to but a load of dongles to make it work because for some reason Apple does not want to stream midi nor audio via the same lighting cable. At the end is better to get those applications for the mac.

Any way... the ipad is collecting dust.

I was going to get an iPad to plunk on my keyboard for midi work, but last time I looked there was no way to have it charging at the same time. How stupid.

I seriously doubt Apple would quietly update the 9.7" iPad next week...and then a couple weeks later hold an event for a new iPad 10.5". That doesn't make any sense whatsoever. From all the rumors I've heard, I truly believe the "event" for the new iPads will be on April 4th. The announcement for this event should come next week. Then everyone can relax.

I can't think of a single reason to change from my iPad Pro 9.7"

It does absolutely everything wonderfully for me (and is now Jailbroken, so it's 150% better than when new now)

Why does everyone here think that everything Apple does is apparently about them and them alone?

Apple is about to release a new iPad. I don't need a new ipad, therefore what Apple is about to do is useless! Never mind there are likely millions of other people out there waiting for a new iPad refresh!!!

The way apple chat talked tonight to me tonight it seems like the expect a new 9.7 inc iPad next week

Why does everyone here think that everything Apple does is apparently about them and them alone?

Did I say it was?
I was just sharing where my mind is at on this.

Maybe don't jump to such an aggressive accusation there?

The more overarching point here, as has been mentioned by many in this thread, is that Apple keeps spec bumping hardware, which is fine, but that is simply not what the iPad needs to gain more share and drive more sales. Software continues to be the part dragging behind.

The current iPad Pro's are total powerhouses...that basically get used at idle all the time due to the hamstrung and limited software that runs on the hardware.

They keep upgrading the engine and components on the "Ferrari" when really we need many more tracks and road to drive on.

Earlier this week, a well-known research firm that requested confidentiality told us that, based on their own sources, it expects Apple to announce new products later this month, most likely during the week of March 20. The research firm did not say which products it expects, or the manner in which they will be announced.

Following our report, some Japanese analysts have predicted that a second-generation 9.7-inch iPad Pro will be announced next week, according to Japanese blog Mac Otakara. The analysts are reportedly basing this prediction on supply chain information and the lack of a scheduled Apple event next week.

Given that Apple usually invites the media to a launch event at least 10 days beforehand, and if the information we were provided about Apple announcing new products as early as next week is accurate, it is possible the so-called "iPad Pro 2" could be announced via press release rather than at a launch event.

A press release could be an appropriate manner for Apple to announce a new 9.7-inch iPad Pro, given that rumors suggest it will be an iterative upgrade. One of the only rumored additions to the 9.7-inch iPad Pro is quad microphones, while Mac Otakara suggests it could have a faster Apple A10X chip.

KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo expects Apple to launch a low-cost 9.7-inch iPad Pro this year, likely with its current Apple A9X chip. He did not mention an entirely new 9.7-inch model. If the 9.7-inch iPad Pro is essentially only getting a price cut, then a press release as early as next week would be fitting.

Apple similarly issued a press release when it dropped the price of the fourth-generation iPad to $399 in March 2014. Apple's current low-cost 9.7-inch model, the iPad Air 2, starts at $399, while the 9.7-inch iPad Pro starts at $599.

Beyond the 9.7-inch iPad Pro, Apple is rumored to launch an all-new 10.5-inch iPad Pro with slimmer bezels and an updated 12.9-inch iPad Pro in the near future. A few reports claim a new 7.9-inch iPad Pro could also be released, but some analysts disagree and do not expect the iPad mini 4 to be updated.

The 10.5-inch iPad Pro is expected to have slimmer bezels, and there is a slim chance it will have no Home button, allowing it to have the same overall footprint as the 9.7-inch iPad Pro. This design could foreshadow the rumored 5.8-inch iPhone. The tablet is also rumored to have a higher-resolution display and quad microphones.

The updated 12.9-inch iPad Pro is said to feature a 12-megapixel rear camera and True Tone display like the current 9.7-inch model, using advanced four-channel ambient light sensors to automatically adapt the color and intensity of the display to match the light in the surrounding environment.

While it is becoming clear that new iPads are on the horizon, Apple's exact launch plans remain convoluted.

If Apple still plans to host an event later this month as one increasingly unlikely rumor said, it would most likely fall between Monday, March 27 and Friday, March 31, given the 10-plus-day buffer for inviting the media.

At this event, the rumor said Apple will unveil its new iPad Pro lineup, a larger iPhone SE model with 128GB storage, and new Apple Watch bands. The report also claimed Apple will add a red color option for iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus, which could be part of its charitable (PRODUCT)RED campaign.

Of course, the event could be later. Taiwanese website DigiTimes claims Apple is planning to unveil the 10.5-inch iPad Pro at an early April event to "mark the inauguration of Apple's new headquarters in California," but it is unlikely that the supply chain sources cited would know this specific information.

It is also unclear if Steve Jobs Theater would be ready for an April event, as Apple indicated it opens "later this year" while employees start moving to the new campus next month. The latest drone footage by Duncan Sinfield shows that the theater is still under construction and surrounded by mounds of dirt.

Steve Jobs Theater is shown around the 1:45 mark

Apple could hold an event elsewhere, or even wait until WWDC 2017 in June. Or, just like a low-cost 9.7-inch iPad Pro, a red iPhone 7, 128GB iPhone SE, and new Apple Watch bands could certainly be announced by press release or an update to Apple's website in the meantime.

So I've been doing Apple products as long as the next guy, ya know iPhones, Macs, MacBooks, and even iPad Air A7 (which still serves me well). But here's the thing: If you name something "Pro", isn't it supposed to do something professionally? I mean being able to attach a keyboard or a stylus, heck, any tablet can do this nowadays. But being able to run professional applications like PhotoShop, PremierePro, AutoCad, FinalCutX, DaVinciResolve, Illustrator etc? A better screen and a faster processor doesn't cut it. To attract real pros I suggest stepping up the game. Until then I'm quite happy with my four year old Pad Air that does Word and Excel, countless ho-hum apps, surfs the web and plays Amazon Prime - quite professionally - and then use other more advanced products, Apple or not, to satisfy my Pro Needs.

Isn't that nomenclature just ridiculous?
What were they thinking?

Well, two of those are random made up names of products that don't exist and you have literally not the foggiest idea what they're going to use for naming convention on the new iPads sooooooooo........

In regards to the video featuring the new Apple Campus: I don't see where the runway strip will go?

There is a lot of meat to this article.

"Apple may release a new ipad next week, or later. "

Not many sites have this clear a vision of future events.

Plus, it's on the Internet, so it must be true.

None of these rumored websites have a clear vision of what Apple will do or won't do, because it hasn't been confirmed by Apple. These are all predictions generated by analysts. I don't Believe MacRumors has any more of a clear vision over any of the other reporting websites for Apple. It's just a matter what you choose to believe or not.

Lol, they told you "we have no idea... we have no information that you don't have right now; check with us later" & you got: "NEW IPAD NEXT WEEK!!!"?
You must be really really hard to communicate with!
To be fair, he did get them to write that they should have more information for him by Monday for sure, so...

You don't seem a very happy person, btw. The current existing naming scheme is ridiculous and if they continue as they have done they will in fact have iPad Pro's, iPad Pro 2's, iPad Air 3's, iPad Air 2's, iPad mini 4's, and iPad mini 5's all selling at the same time. Add on the different screen sizes to the pro models and you get quite ridiculous.

I find this site to be very useful and interesting. The rumors are labeled as rumors, the information and facts are labeled as such. Right now in the absence of hard information from Apple it's the best place I've found where people can gather and express opinions about the products we are all interested in. A lot of smart opinions right here, a great way to examine, question, parse and digest the information available. And fun too.
Which site is that? Can you share the url?

This is part of the 2 pronged master plan IMO

Step 1
Have a limited line up of overpriced, underspecced hardware. Incrementally update and price the crap out of them, see what the market will take.

Step 2
Do what Samsung does, have a device for literally every human being on the planet. Sizes, colours, storage. Fragment the crap out of it.

Step 1 + Step 2 = $$$$$$$$

What could possibly go wrong?

Sometimes i get the impression apple users can be a tad vain and selfish....just a tad.... ;) image is everything, and that includes having the newest.

Quad mics and a speed bump are two things I'm not that interested in. I've never really felt the 9.7 was lacking in power..?

If they bumped the RAM it'd be a bit better.. But if this is what they do with it I don't see anyone rushing to upgrade yet.

Still seems weird though that they might end up with so many sizes.
