They have time for something nobody asked for, but not the guaranteed success the iPhone SE 2 is bound to be. Sigh.

Did you try Samsung? They have 10 different ports and no one complain?

Nobody remains loyal to the Samsung ecosystem. You may get the phone, but it doesn't mean your laptop, tablet, TV and headset would be Samsung-branded too.

I have an iPhone XS Max but at work, I cannot have a cell phone on my person. I have absolutely no desire to have a fragile, big touchscreen iPod in my pocket but I would absolutely LOVE to have a small, screen less iPod with large capacity and Siri controls via AirPods, etc.

I think iPod touch is really the "iPhone" for India, and it is also the "economy iPhone" for people who complain about $1000.00 iPhones.

Let me explain:

If I was concerned about the price of the new iPhone's, probably the REAL thing I would realize is that I cannot actually afford to spend $600 - $1000 on a yearly cell phone contract. Thats the issue.

If I were a student, I would be thinking of ways that I could get an iPod touch, or even an iPad to do the things that I need my cellphone to do.

Maybe there are ways to get wifi coverage that allows me to voice call in a way that is good enough, and yet saves me from having to pay for cellular service.

Makes sense?

So if they can upgrade the iPod touch then why can't they upgrade the SE?

If you could buy a used iPhone X for $250.00 would you still be wishing for an upgraded iPhone SE?

I am curious, because surely the iPhone X will get cheaper and cheaper, and it's a pretty good form factor (small size).

That makes no sense, why would they spend money on a cheap iPod touch when there are android alternatives that have actual cellular capabilities for the same price? People need to understand that Indians do not value Apple as a brand the way we do.

I admit I have an odd use-case for this, but this would be a day one purchase for me.

If the next iPhone has USB-C *and* the ability to freely read from a USB storage device (SD Card or flash drive) I may be actually compelled to upgrade. Otherwise, I'm keeping my current phone as long as I possibly can.

My Nokia could read and write anything to USB storage in 2007, yet my 2017 iPhone can barely import photos from it.

Another iPod would be stupid but USB-C iPhones that's great news

Why is it stupid ?

I use my iPod Touch 6 every day.

So an iPod touch is just an iPhone without cellular, right? That's the ONLY difference?

No GPS, touch ID or face ID either. If they do release a new one, I'll buy it right away.

I love my iPT6.

If they release a decent update iPT7 that is as light and as thin, I'll buy it day 1.

For effortless carry at home, nothing else comes close.

Simply put, if this year’s iPhone doesn’t have USB-C (and a reasonable price tag), I won’t be upgrading.
It’s annoying as hell to have to carry 2 different cables just to charge my iPad Pro and iPhone.
This change would require me to start carrying two cables. Right now, the lightning cable plugs into my 2012 MBP correctly.

One of the reasons I sold my 2018 12.9" iPad Pro after owning or for two weeks was because if the cable the new iPads came with. I could not plug it into my MBP without a dongle. Luckily, I have a Note 9 so I was able to use it to connect my 2018 iPad Pro to my MBP.

I'm sure the change is coming though because it will work with the latest MBPs with no dongle needed.

Never thought I would have a need for a dongle with my 2012 MBP.

Just interested, why is a headphone jack so important? I'm truly just asking to understand. I switched over the past 2 years to wireless headphones and haven't found it annoying at all. I would guess people have invested in expensive headphones and want to keep using them? But Id guess in 2 or 3 years headphones jacks will be on even less devices, no?

I use my iPod Touch with very cheap wired earbuds when I workout. I have wireless earbuds but I consider them too expensive to risk while working out.

You might think the Touch is an obsolete device. Not necessarily so. As long as you have one iPhone on your wireless network you can use one or more Touches exactly as you use extension phones on a landline setup. You can make and receive calls from them, sharing the same number assigned to the iPhone. If, like me, you have a reasonably large house this can be a lot handier than having to carry your iPhone from room to room as you move about. And when not in use as a phone, these Touches can be used as bedside or desktop clocks. It's possible to pick up a Touch 6 on eBay for a hundred bucks or thereabout so this is not an unduly expensive solution.

Nb: the Touch can run the latest iOS and comes pre-loaded with Face Time, which makes it work as a satellite telephone). Somebody else can tell us whether it works as a VoIP device.

It works perfectly with VoIP. I've been doing that for years.

You don't *have* to get a plan with a phone. Why do so many people not understand this? Instead of getting $200 for your old phone on eBay, keep it without a plan. Perfect for kids or friends with no money.
I understand this, and that's what I did once I got my iPhone 6 for a while before getting a cheap Tracfone plan.

However. Getting a new device from the store or online is often easier and safer for most people than buying on eBay or Craigslist or hoping your friends have one.

New gen ipod touch = iPhone XR + A9 Processor + iPhone 6S camera - all things cellular - A12 processor
Price - $499
And after 2.5 months, a revision of earnings due to lackluster sales and growth headwinds in the Atlantis.

Good! The 2019 iPhone better have USB-C, or I'm out! Consistency across product lines is a must, especially with Apple products and their ecosystem. It'll be nice to be able to use the same cable for my MacBook, iPad Pro, and iPhone. A dream!

An even better dream would be completely wireless, no cables necessary at all.

The iPhone will probably not switch connectors, but remove them completely for a fully wireless mobile experience. You’ll still only need one cable for your MBP and iPP. The same cable will also plug into your Qi charging case, or stand/pad.

Why did people spend hundreds of dollars for an iPhone when flip phones at the time were free or very inexpensive? The experience was worth it.

The missing piece of @BuddyTronic’s theory is that an iPod with an LTE chip could give it full portability. Almost like a phone but not quite, like an iPad it wouldn’t be considered a phone and wouldn’t have to have a phone plan.

With a built in eSIM and LTE, $10 bucks could buy you data on the go. No going through the hassles of dealing with a carrier directly. Just add data in the Settings app in the way you add data to an iPad with an eSIM. For the rest of the time that you’re at home or the office or otherwise within WiFi reach, you’re not using wireless data.

You could use iMessage or any of your message apps of choice. You could FaceTime or you could Skype.

Like Buddy, I too think that an iPod is the solution to a cheap iPhone. Heck, I might even get one and I have an iPhone X. I’d rather use my AppleWatch as my main personal computer that’s always on me and have an iPod for when I need a screen in my pocket.

Yeah, I have an iPhone 7+ and can't bring myself to upgrade, because it's fine. It may last years. If Apple dropped lightning for USB-C, I'd upgrade. Hopefully the slowing iPhone sales will convince them to actually make the move.
