This.

Don’t get rid of the iPod line. I would like to see them upgraded to at least a 4.7” screen size, and maybe some upgrades to the internals but that’s it. They are perfect for my kids. My kids don’t need phones as a personal device.

Screw the 4.7” size. I want it the same size but with an edge-to-edge display. I want a phone like that too.

Cool. I wish they’d they make a 6.5” screen size iPod touch. I like having an SE size phone when I go out, but I want a big handheld device for home use. With continuity, I could use it as my phone at home and leave my SE charging. I make do with an iPad mini at home now but it’s difficult to grasp one-handed and not pocketable.

My kids have an iPod touch and love it. They don’t need a phone but an updated iPod with longer better life and slightly bigger screen would be welcome.

That makes no sense, why would they spend money on a cheap iPod touch when there are android alternatives that have actual cellular capabilities for the same price? People need to understand that Indians do not value Apple as a brand the way we do.

Well, I was just thinking about the yearly costs to have a cellphone. An iPod touch is like an iPhone, without cellular right? I think I said it fairly clearly - save money by not paying for cellular service - just use Wifi and an iPod touch. Yes you can get a $100 Android smartphone, but if you are paying more than that for the actual cellular service plan, what's the point?

Simply put, if this year’s iPhone doesn’t have USB-C (and a reasonable price tag), I won’t be upgrading.
It’s annoying as hell to have to carry 2 different cables just to charge my iPad Pro and iPhone.
YES! I couldn’t agree more with you. I want USB C on the next phone, traveling right now with the new iPad and iPhone X is such a cable mess!

Do you not remember that the iPhone cannibalized the iPod? It might seem like a no brainer now, but at the time, the iPod was Apple’s biggest hit and its biggest revenue generator. Nobody else came close. Releasing the iPhone to kill its golden goose seemed preposterous because iPod sales weren’t even declining. Steve Jobs killed Apple’s biggest hit in a risky move that in retrospect paid off may times over.

An iPod with LTE makes a lot of sense because it allows it to fill in a low cost iOS entry slot that’s currently unserved. A $299 iPod with no phone plan but with an eSIM instead that would allow users to buy data on the device without having to go to a cell provider or sign a contract would be incredible.

It would only marginally hurt iPhone sales because it doesn’t offer a phone number. It would more than make up the revenue as a new must have device. I can see people with iPhones buying an iPod Touch as a smaller, more portable weekender device.

The Mac brought in more revenue than the iPod in 2006 the year before the iPhone launched.

iPod Touch with in-screen Touch iD perhaps?
Maybe Apple will introduce an all screen iPod, perhaps with a smaller notch and with in-screen Touch ID instead of Face ID? It could be the one feature that will drive a renewed interest in the device. Or rather an all screen iPod with in screen Touch ID could be two features that will renew interest.
Someone mentioned the want of a bigger display for gaming, so perhaps iPod Touch 7th gen will come in a Plus size also.
Parents who don't want their kids playing around with a $1500 iPhone may opt for a much cheaper iPod Touch.

I guess there may be a market out there for it, just that Apple never really worked at tapping into that market after interest in the iPod Touch waned due to a lack of updates and the fact that it hasn't kept up with the current iPhone design.

Who knows. Will be interesting to see what they come up with or if it actually gets axed all together.

The iPod is pretty much redundant. Kids these days are getting phones at younger ages. Plus an iPad is a better product since it can play music, serve as a gaming device, and feature some educational benefits. I know the iPad can’t fit in a pocket easily, but there are alternatives to an iPod.

Agreed. Even when the iPhone SE launched, that even pushed the iPod further into the darkness. The SE essentially is a 4 inch phone that had cellular and all the capabilities of the iPod. I just don’t see the investment for the iPod anymore for Apple, not when smart phones are the primary as you mentioned, and for what Apple charges for an iPod touch for a higher storage, you can find an iPhone for that price in good condition and have cellular if needed.

I’m completely open for the idea to Apple updating the iPod, I just don’t see the market for it as it once was, as it’s been so long already since its last refresh, does the consumer really care about a product like this when they’re smart phone meet all those expectations? And then factor the Apple Watch can now stream music directly to the AirPods as well, which the iOS was popular acting as a second device for streaming music.

If a quarter of the things Apple were supposedly working on, were actually being worked on, Apple would be a trillion dollar company. For too long Apple has been all about "Jam tomorrow", but at least the jam was nice. Now it is "Jam Next Year" and the jam is cabbage flavoured.

Seems like it's obvious the next iPhones will use USB C. When has apple ever introduced a new port/power socket etc on a device and not also incorporated it on subsequent devices? The new iPads just released with USB C, it would be crazy if they release any future iOS devices without USB C.

Think we knew USB type C was coming after it was on the new iPad pros. I will welcome that for sure.

Big question: how would USB-C affect the WATERPROOFING of the iPhone? I think that is a huge issue. iPhone XS has IP68 certification with the current lighting connector. That's awesome. Saves hundreds of thousands of devices per year, I'm sure. There is no way that Apple would want to have lesser water resistance just to add USB-C.

Anyone know?
Same way samsung manages just fine with theirs....

iPhones coming with Lightning to USB-C cables and a new Type C charger (same size, maybe upped to 7.5 W) yes please, it's about time.

iPhones with USB-C instead of Lightning? I don't see that nor want it.
With AirPods Case, Siri Remote, Magic Keyboard/Trackpad/Mouse, Watch Dock and even beatsX they're all in on Lightning, what a mess that would be. And remember Phil's promise when Lightning was introduced in 2012?
I also don't see non-Pro iPads switching to USB-C anytime soon.

Two more years, maybe a bit longer, and iPhones will have no port at all. Lightning will (and should) stick around until then. For small devices like a phone, it's just the best mechanical connector design out there. USB-C is much more fragile.

As for the iPod touch reports, I personally don't have any use for it, but of course I'd welcome a new one. We'll see.

Another iPod would be stupid but USB-C iPhones that's great news
Why? I use one for running, saves me taking my unwieldy plus-sized iPhone out with me! They're really svelte little things and absolutely perfect for this purpose.

Just because older products don’t have it doesn’t mean newer products won’t. You can even buy Apple Watch charger from apple with USB C.

I can see air power coming with USB C and new air pods coming with the same.

I still don't understand why everyone wants USB-C. It is highly likely Apple will requires MFi for iPhone USB-C cables as well so some stupid manufacture wont **** up the iPhone.
Apple's consumers have been begging for USB-C for years. Apple's greed knows no bounds. Incredible how people still support this company.
Under Cook, we might see a USB-C to USB-C dongle to regain lost revenue :D
