Anyone else think it's odd they'd do a major design overhaul in time for the 7S, but not for the 7?

I know they might not have it 'ready' but come on, this is Apple. Reality Distortion Field represent 2016.

I believe they will release an iPhone "6SE" in September and make it "waterproof" surprisingly keeping the jack put a better camera in and few other things but keep the body mainly the same except change the antenna bands and make the camera flush to the phone. Apple will hold a spring event (may announce it on the 10th anniversary of the first iPhone being announced seems like something they would do) apple will then release iPhone air with a 4 inch display and 4.7 inch display with a completely new design no headphone Jack wireless charging from a distance lighting earbuds and more. both models having the same features looking the same except for 1-2 minor differences in favor of the 4.7 inch model. The pricing for the iPhone air will be $450 for the 4 inch model and $600 for the 4.7 inch model. Then WWDC they will release IPad Air 7.9 inch IPad Air 9.7 inch just updated version of the current air and getting rid of the mini title to make a more simple naming structure. In Fall 2017 Apple will release this rumored iPhone. It will be called the iPhone Pro 4.9 inch edition and 5.7 inch edition. It will have mainly the same design as the air except it will be the first iPhone with dual lenses 8MP front camera (same rear camera as is on the 5s). The 5.7 inch will have 1 key feature to separate from the 4.9 and that will be an "Edge" display it may look somewhat similar to the "galaxy edge" in with that edge but the iPhones edge will be more useful with fingerprint scanner along with control center. The 4.9 will still have Touch ID but I'm not sure if it will be built into the display or have a button. The iPhone pro 4.9 inch will cost $829 and the 5.7 inch will cost $979. **note my pricing will likely be off but the price structure will be like how I say** (this is all speculation I have no extra knowledge than the average person on here but I just think about things in a different way than most people do. This is also my first iPhone prediction so I know I'm not credible but this seems realistic knowing all I know. Hope you enjoyed reading!

Just some helpful advice since I see you are new, next time break up your very very long paragraph into smaller paragraphs because it's much easier to read several paragraphs than 1 big one. There are some people who won't even read it because of this. :)

Likewise, your argument could be used to criticize the low-end of every product of every company.

A 4K TV should not be just 40", you can't possibly need all those pixels at that size. It would be a negligible cost for Samsung to make it 45" instead. Especially for a $700 television! Even 10 years ago larger CTR TVs cost less than that!

A 4-door car that seats 5 people should not have a 3-cylinder 74hp engine, that's just not enough to get 5 grown adults to the speed necessary to go on a highway. Mitsubishi should make it at least a 4-cylinder turbo with at least 120hp. The cost would be negigible, they make so many other engines. Especially for a $13,000 car, that is pathetic. This is 2015, we need to move past 3-cylinder tiny engines.

If it's not a good product for you, don't buy it. What good is it to criticize products that aren't meant for you? Buying a 16GB iphone and then complaining that you can't store more than 20 minutes of 4K video is like buying a Mitstubishi Mirage and then complaining that it can't tow your trailer. Obviously the buyer picked the wrong product for the needs. I know people that get by just fine with 16GB - they only bought a smartphone because feature phones don't really exist anymore. If you don't do anything more than email, text, navigation, and the the occasional photo, 16gb is plenty.

Why don't you focus your criticism on the people who foolishly buy a 16GB phone with the unreasonable expectation of filling it with dozens of games, hours of 4k video, offline music, and thousands of photos?
...

I don't think you realize just HOW cheap a 32GB NAND module is these days. It is ridiculously cheap. It's literally a matter of pennies for Apple to go from 16 to 32. Trying to act as if Apple has some legitimate reason for keeping it stuck at 2011 levels is ridiculous. They don't. It's absolute greed. Lots of people would be happy with 32GB who are otherwise forced to upgrade to 64GB. This is all about getting people to upgrade.

If ALL phone makers had this same issue that would be one thing. But they don't. There are a huge number of android devices out there with better displays, more ram, etc. and they come with 32GB as the base model.

On a $750 device there's really no freaking excuse for a 16GB base model so please stop acting as if this is anything other than pure greed.

Why offer a 16 gigabyte option in the first place? With apps getting larger, offline Apple music playlists, higher res. photos, 4k video (heck 1080p video), 16gb (realistically 12) is becoming less feasible for the vast majority of consumers by the hour. A 32gb default option makes complete sense in the year 2016. I know Tim Cook likes his high profit margins but please don't set the bar so low for a few extra dollars Apple.

When I talk to foolish people who buy 16GB iphones I feel ashamed of the principle Apple is pushing, that they are offering a product that doesn't meets the basic every day needs of consumers, and in the year 2016 Steve would not want that to happen to members of the Apple family.

Where do you get that the "basic every day needs of consumers" is larger apps, offline music playlists, and 4k video? Both my parents have 16GB iPhones with 50% free space most of the time. Neither of them take any video, don't download any app over 200MB, nor listen to offline music. Most of colleagues have similar usage. The ones with kids or the media junkies all had the forethought to buy the 64GB or the 128GB model.

I think "basic every day needs of consumers" is a lot less than you imagine. If Apple wants to offer a 32Gb model at the same price, great. But I think more likely it would be like the iPad Pro, where the 32Gb low-end model becomes more expensive, and that is bad.

2016 or 2018 maybe but Im calling bs on them breaking the S cycle. Most handset manufacturers are slowing down on major design changes.

Rumors should always be taken with a grain of salt but with the supposedly leaked iPhone 7 image, a 2017 redesign is very possible.

I get the OLED part, but what is the benefit/ purpose of a "curved" screen? Maybe because I haven't owned a device with a curved display, I can't imagine what such a screen could do for me.

It's fashion, first it will be convex, then concave, then old will be new and it will be time for flat.

And I used to have a Motorola RAZR....
Only difference between you & I, I guess is the fact that I'm NOT trolling around on the RAZR forums talking about how bad they suck & how much I want their company to fail.
Soooooooooooooo...... really: why are you here???????
The biggest reason is that I am an iOS developer. And I am absolutely disgusted with the greedy unimaginative MBA school buffoons that have taken over Apple in the last few years. This isn't just about me being mad on a personal level. There are lots of reasons that we developers really want Apple to just "get with it" and finally leave 2011 where it belongs: the past. Even on their cheapest phones, there's no freaking excuse for a 16GB base model.

Look at how cheap a 32GB flash drive is these days. It's the same NAND used in the iPhone. So please. Give me a break. If you think the decision to stick to 2011 levels of storage was anything but unprecedented greed, you're wrong.

Apple seems to think they are now immune from competition because their customers no longer care how much better Android devices are these days. I believe this is a big mistake and iPhone sales are doomed to continue their slump into obscurity if Apple keeps this idiocy up.

has anyone considered the fact that, when it comes to apple MacBooks, iMacs, iPads etc

the main design changes are quite minimal. If Apple produce one timeless great design for a Phone, why keep drastically changing it for the sake of changing it? is that an important part of why people want the next iPhone?

onto that discussion.. does anyone have an opinion on which iPhone design so far, is the best one they should have stuck with? or maybe none are as good as it gets yet?
Actually I'm running a poll asking that very question. Cast your vote: So what's your favourite iPhone design and where is it all heading?https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/future-apple-design-language.1963417
I guess for some of the products the design is really well done, but iPhone has been going backwards. Protruding camera, awful thick antenna lines that don't even try to blend in are two obvious design flaws. A radical change is needed. Go back to the purity of glass as the starting point I say and let's make a good go of it!

Size change with curved glass case and screen. Normally the "s" is visually very similar the prior version.
Yes you're right I just get the feeling for the iPhone's 10th anniversary Apple will want to do something special so releasing the iPhone that normally would be released in September in February March April area and and the "s" cycle in September October. Making the air and pro this way will allow Apple in 2018 to return to normal upgrade cycle but only release iPhone air (4.9 inch) iPhone pro (5.7 inch) like an s year for the Pro but also a number year for the Air taking on 2017 pro features but both get the same Apple A# chip. Then in 2019 they will both be in a "number year" and a slight redesign both looking visually similar but also very visually different in some areas and yes the pro will continue to have better specs and features. The anniversary edition would be. Looking to put the life back into Apple.

The iphone component cost of the iphone is something like $200-$250 according to IHS. There are lots of other options that cost just pennies more. As we know, component cost and market value are totally separate things.

I would certainly welcome it if Apple made 32GB standard, for the same starting price of $650. But I do not agree that Apple has to do it. All those Android devices out there are missing one critical thing - iOS. That is what I am paying Apple for. Everything else doesn't matter, at all. The people who buy 16Gb are the people who would otherwise buy a feature phone. They only use it for calls, texts, email, and photos. They have 10GB free all day long. What's the point of them walking around with 26GB free all day long? Seems like a huge waste.

In general, I agree with your premise, but the hardware is different between the two devices. For a phone it has to be faster than a USB stick. Fast and reliable do cost more. As much as Apple is charging, probably not, but you can't take the same cheap memory in Chinese flash drive and run a phone off it.

Apple is just trying to squeeze more dollars out of people pockets. The different in price for 16/32/64/128 is tiny.
It's all about greedy. I am a huge Apple fan but these tactics piss me off. They do the same with 5400rpm HD instead to make SSDs standard across their Macs.
It's lame.

I don't think Apple should abandon the 16GB model but they need to provide all ranges of storage and not just limit a phone or pad to just 16 or 64.

Apple should have this for all iPads and iPhones. This allows the consumer to choose what they want.

16GB
32GB
64GB
128GB
256GB

There is no reason all these sizes can't exist especially with Apple soldering in the space and not allowing any pop in storage cards. I don't like how Apple only offers 16 or 64 it makes no sense. There basically saying you can't take a lot of video or pictures or download apps or your not allowed to have a music library over 50GB to fit on your 64GB.

It's exactly the same NAND, just a different controller. Let me assure you: there is nothing more advanced about the NAND in 16GB iPhones than anything else.

In fact the world's most advanced NAND can be found in...you guessed it...the Galaxy S7. It is far superior to the NAND in Apple devices. The NAND in an iPhone is the same as what you would get in a cheap USB thumb drive. The only difference is the storage controller.

I agree, and I like the level of exaggeration here to show your passion for Apple. All the original people I know who supported Apple in the early days are looking around for what's better. Will it be something that simplifies the mobile experience even more than Apple has attempted maybe some device that has been launched on kickstarter? Is it a genius that makes porting ios apps to a new and better platform incredibly easy so developers can move easily? Nothing is impossible. Apple must take notice of the rumblings and focus on being the best not raking in profits by underspecing products. Everytime I see flash storage I'm disappointed that Apple is ripping off customers. The values at Apple were essential to its past success and even more to its future sustenance.

Don't speak about "we developers" because you are on your own in this ranting about Apple...
As I said , for someone claiming to be a developer you have a very poor understanding of hardware (a flash drive doesn't use the same NAND used in an iPhone. That's utterly ridiculous).
There isn't a single android devices better than an iPhone.

I have a correct definition about your presence here but simply can't use it.
You don't like a 16 Gb iPhone ? Me neither, and I bought a 64 Gb model. Easy solution. No need to come here insulting Apple and us happy customers....

2017 2018 is too late. I refuse to believe Apple with its resources can't course correct and release a new model this year. If you need me, I'm ready to come aboard and plug the holes while steering the ship Apple!

Actually...it seems it's you that doesn't really know much about NAND flash storage technology.

The only difference is that iPhones use multiple NAND arrays in parallel for faster read & write speeds. SD cards and such use the same exact NAND, they just use a single controller over a slower SPI bus.

But the actual NAND flash silicon itself...? It's the same in cheap flash drives and iPhones. There is nothing special about the NAND in iPhones. The only difference is the flash controllers and communication interfaces.

The NAND flash used in a cheap Samsung Evo+ 16GB/32GB MicroSD card is far, far more advanced than the NAND found in iPhones. Samsung pioneered 3D vertical NAND fabs. Meanwhile Apple seems stuck in 2011. It's sad and it's pathetic and no amount of koolaid can change that fact.

No. 16gb is a big kick in the guts from Apple to customers. It's a sick marketing trick. Apple hopes customers will spend $100 extra for storage they should have got to begin with.

I mean, we have to ask ourselves, why are we the consumers demanding a new iphone every year, what are we getting? Incremental spec upgrade, thinner products, 16 gigabytes of storage, drop the headphone jack. With Steve Jobs at the helm I'm confident he wouldn't allow a 16 gigabyte model phone or 5400 rpm drive to be released on an Apple product in the year 2016 because it's so antiquated and offers such an inferior experience.

Steve had a passion for the Apple family, putting forth a cutting edge, visionary approach that rivals couldn't compete with; the heck what anyone else thought. Tim cares about higher profit margins. Nothing else.

Rivals did compete with and surpass apple in many ways. Apple does not set trends, they follow.

Jobs said that 7" tablets are too small to be useful and that nobody wanted a hummer sized phone--Apple's most popular ever phone was the hummer sized phone that had more Android features than any other before it.

So what would be different if jobs was alive today? There would be more of what's already happening "good artists copy, great artists steal"

Anyway, looking forward to seeing Apple's iPhone Edge.

So Apple will be launching in 2017 what Samsung has been shipping now for a couple of years?

This passes for news around here? Elsewhere this type of information might fall under the "too little, too late" headline.
No, fortunately Apple won't release a device similar to a Samsung ' s phone. Never.
