Why?

If you were previously considering upgrading your 6s this year then you're the kind of person who upgrades every year. So you can get a new phone in 2016 AND get one again in 2017.

If you're not the kind of person who upgrades every year, then I'd expect you to hold on to your 6s until next year anyway.
I'm on a two year contract though.

I know a lot of these rumors end up not being true, but a lot of evidence points to this year's upcoming iPhone having largely the same design as this year's. As a result, here's my small prediction: the next iPhone will not be called iPhone 7, but rather iPhone 6SE and iPhone 6SE+. The 2017 model with the thinner bezel and Touch ID incorporated into the screen will be the iPhone 7.

several? it was 2 years and their edge is pointless. 16GB is an option, if you need more buy more. thats the point
Don't you realize how absolutely inane that statement is? You could use the same logic to justify an 8GB iPhone. After all, if you need more you can just pay $100 to double, another $100 to go further, etc. right?

A phone with a 4K camera simply should *NOT* have 16GB of storage. That's just pathetic. you can shoot barely 20 minutes before you have COMPLETELY filled up your storage. Wow. Especially when it would have literally cost pennies for Apple to have put 32GB instead. No joke, not even a dollar. NAND flash has gotten so cheap but Apple seems stuck in 2011. It's sad and pathetic.

But worst of all, a $750 phone with 16GB...???? Come on now. There are Android phones less than HALF that price with 32GB. What a joke.

I used to be an iPhone guy even since the first back in 2007. But these days the iPhone is an awful joke, a punch line.

I hope that this year, when Apple does move to 32GB (it really just had to at this point), I hope their profit margins take a HUGE dive because they truly deserve it.

Samsung started the phablet thing... Apple is playing catching up game. What else can Apple come up these days? Going for big then going to small then going to big again? Adding new colour options?

If you think curved edges is pointless, 3D Touch is just pointless. 16GB in 2016 as starting point is just a way for Apple to push people shell out other 100 dollars for 64GB?

Why do I keep hearing the new iPhone design is coming in 2017? We are supposed to have the newly design iPhone this year, not next one. We just had the "s" revision last year. Whether we are going to have OLED or curved glass this year is another story, but I highly doubt it's going to be in 2017.

I think no new S model. Having an iPhone 6 SE (and plus) and iPhone SE wouldn't make sense.

It'll be iPhone 7 this year, then 5.8in iPhone Pro next year with iPhone SE 2 on the lower end. Not sure how they'll name the successor to 6s/+ though. Perhaps they'll become Pro too.

This is probably the first year I'm not upgrading to a new design, for 2 reasons, my 6+ is great already and money. No need considering it works perfectly atm.
No it makes sense, I mean it will be iPhone's 10 year anniversary.
Thought they already spent their SE iPhone for that. Albeit early.

meant to quote you

Anyone else think it's odd they'd do a major design overhaul in time for the 7S, but not for the 7?

I know they might not have it 'ready' but come on, this is Apple. Reality Distortion Field represent 2016.

It makes sense if this rumor is true. Carry over the 6 design with some changes for an extra year before launching a radical redesign. Mix it up. I like it.

For a second a was like "what's this sexy new phone?" Then realised it was a 4S!

As for a major 2017 redesign, perhaps that's because Apple is shifting to a 3 year cycle for 'major redesigns' and the '7' Is just a cosmetic update of the antenna bands?

Anyone who owns a 6/6s and buys a 7 for antenna and a fringe feature like live photos and 3D touch has way more money than brains. If that's all that's new I'll just stick with my 5S or return to the land of Droids. 5S still meets my needs.

Guys, don't get your hopes up this is all BS. His track record isn't 100% (especially with timing). Apple is not getting rid of the tick tock upgrade cycle anytime soon (if ever). It is true that iPhone 7 will be similar in design to the 6, but it will be different, the way iPhone 5 was to iPhone 4. Think about it, iPhone 5 is basically a stretched out iPhone 4 with glass panels in the back instead of a single large glass back panel. iPhone 7 will be an iPhone 6 with less antenna lines, and the camera protrusion will be curved out. What Kuo is describing is iPhone 8 that will come out in 2018, in the month of September.

The edge is amazing. I have an iPhone and my friends have the Galaxy edge, and I'm amazed watching them use it.

Notifications don't light up the entire screen and they can scroll without putting their thumb over the content they're looking at.

Its these types of small things that I wish Apple thought more about. These days it's all designing thin aesthetics rather than designing for function.

Two years and looks like it will be 3 is a long time in this category to not have a hardware redesign.

At least it was different. Different. Apple. I remember a connections with those words at one point. Hmmmm

If Apple doesn't update the phone this yea the press will have a field day claiming they lost all innovation. Which might be somewhat true, but any products update cycle will slow down as it mature's its only natural. Lets hope WWDC blows us all away with the software if the hardware won't be updated that much this year.
