So just how many SKUs will be in the total iPhone line up if this happens and I'm not talking about colour variations.

I’ve seen this comment a couple of time now, what DID the iPhone X stand for exactly?

X = 10!

So much for no leaks
It not a leak if it done by ones boss! Kuo is Apple's covert real CEO and Tim Cook follows his direction. You never see Cook las out about Kuo comments! Cook would be demoted or loose his annual stock option bonuses if he did!

Why are the two OLED phone models going to be "significantly more expensive"? I can understand them being more expensive, but even today I can get a QHD AMOLED display phone for well under $300 (Moto Z). Sounds like another Apple rip-off.

Sooo.. first the SE 2 won’t be made because Apple wouldn’t have that many models and now they are up to a rumor of 4 options anyway..?

Guess I’ll pass, stick with my 7+ another year and invest the saved money in Apple Watch 4. With wearables you can still see notable progress y-o-y, with Smartphones - not so much.

This market is so bizarre. It's 2018 and nobody wants to make a pocketable phone anymore.

nothing is bizarre. 10 years ago, an iphone is really a phone. now an iphone is more like a computer, ipad, laptop. it can do so more things than it did 10 years ago. more things mean bigger screen, more components and space...bigger.

my first smart color phone was samsumg flip phone with 3" screen. what can you do with 3" these days?

When oh when is that notch going away?

Not for a long time and other manufacturers will probably be releasing their versions of Face ID and they will have notches as well. I know that there is a Samsung prototype that a notch. Doesn’t mean the next Galaxy has one but it means that other phone makers are looking at adding face verification and right now that means either a bezel to put the cameras in or a notch in the screen.

  • Face ID seems to be working pretty well. Yes there are ways of spoofing it but they take time, money and effort. Every brands current ID system can also be broken with time, money and effort. I haven’t seen a study saying Face ID is worse, security wise, than fingerprint or password ID. If such studies exist they aren’t getting much publicity, and there are lots of anti-Apple sites happy to publish anything that makes Apple look bad, so I don’t think a study could be suppressed by Apple.
  • No one has evidently figured out a reliable way of putting the cameras behind the screen without a notch (and not in a bezel) and making it work. If someone has I guarantee that they would be advertising the hell out of the fact that they have done it and Apple can’t.
  • No one has figured out a way to put a fingerprint ID behind the view screen either. Or they would be doing it.
If Apple figures a way for Face ID to work notchless then it will be touted as a feat of engineering. If 3rd party ‘Y’ figures a way for full screen notchless security then they will advertise that advantage and Apple will be forced to copy whatever they did. So far, neither of these events have happened.

Ohhh... I am so eager to see what abberation Joni has in mind after the Notch and the Hanging Camera Bump

That all sounds reasonable to me. However I really like Touch ID and it's super quick on my 6s. I would like to have a new designed iPhone but I don't like the notch and don't really like face ID don't see the benefit of it over Touch ID.

I also don't see the benefit of upgrading to a 8 since it's the same form factor as my 6s. I also am really upset how Apple has removed album artwork from the lock screen and also made it smaller looking in the actual music app. All of this just makes me want to stay on iOS 9.3.5 and just keep my 6s. I'll probably just get a new battery for $30.00 and stay happy where I am. How weird that I have the money to upgrade but with all the changes Apple has done I am not eager to upgrade. That's the sad part for me. Does Apple care probably not but at least I can vent here on the forum.

It's the other way around.
Kuo is Tims ventriloquist dummy to ventilate idea's, to gauge the market's reaction on disappointments - and to freely retract the wildest nonsense without losing face

I have mentioned before that I don’t have an iPhone X but my wife does. She moved from an iPhone 5 to the 10 so she never had or used Touch ID. She thinks Face ID is wonderful.

My problem isn’t the security system but the lack of a phono plug. I have multiple accessories that use the phono jack and I don’t want to give them up or not be able to charge my phone while I am using them. I also don’t want an octopus cable sticking out of my iPhone. And I travel a lot, I don’t want to worry about leaving an expensive wireless charger in a rental car or hotel. They aren’t cheap. So I am sticking with my iPhone 6.

Same for me. Most new features have become obstacles for me.
I may cut out a notch out of black tape to have that X sensation for free.

There are several ways to do it. Pretty sure some of them are reliable, too. That's not the problem. Lots of things work just fine. The challenge is making a few million of them, not take on too much risk along the way, not require a ton of new investments, not render an existing investment redundant, and actually turning a profit at the end of the day.

Right now, cost effective device level integration isn't here, let alone scaleable. When it is, you can be sure a reliable tech to do all the crazy stuff will be in the first model to use it.
