Good move to dump them. Every time I see a Apple commercial I do none or maybe 1 action from the ad. When I see a Samsung ad I do almost everything listed or I can imagine myself doing that activity. Samsung speaks more to me than Apple.
Apple has too many ads on wanting to be a rock star. I have no freaking interest in playing a musical instrument. Or exercising; I'm a lazy sob.

I hate Beats, they are a pile of over hyped doo doo. But OMG that ad is absolutely awesome!!! Hire that guy and give him a rise.

----------

that Beats ad is AWFUL, from the unnecessary opening that so self-centeredly and conspicuously mentions "Beats by Dr. Dre Presents" to the slow, monotonous, melodramatic conversation urging the athlete to "run like a crazy man". That conversation was so unnatural. Who the hell do they think they are with this ad??? Jesus christ, give me a ***** break. A long 5-minute ad that tries WAY too hard to communicate the oh-so-subtle concept of "buy these headphones". I much prefer Apple's more subtle ads, although maybe that's not what works anymore. I really hope they don't lose sight of who they are, or feel like they need to change.

I guess you like McDonalds ads.

Why can't anybody else see that Apple is being taken over by the you-know-whos? I figured it out back in 2010. Steve Jobs was such a powerhouse that he managed to keep them at bay. Remember that MacRumors story about Steve Jobs' evading being tracked by not having a license plate on his car? Who do you think he was hiding from?

I'm not going to spell out to whom I am referring because I will just get banned and I don't actually care enough to risk it. But everyone knows exactly which unmentionable group it is which has got its claws into Apple and is turning it into just another ugly corporation.

Beancounters? Lawyers?

Now now. You KNOW you want to be the creepy teenager locked to his device at Christmas, who ends up making a video that brings the family to tears.

Apple has evolved some products, but, in my opinion, has really failed to innovate to the level of awe promoted by Jobs. Product lines such as the iPod have languished when, for example, iPod could have been serving as an innovative platform as a larger version of the iWatch, or perhaps a rugged adventure platform having ABC sensors, GPS. Feeble innovation will not be solved by changing an ad agency.

I don't like actual apple ads. I don't know why, but I feel like I'm not the target they're pursuing. It's like they target middle aged people, parents above all, and ancient people. Even more, they are totally american even outside the US, people in other countries can't empathize with them, they look culturally out of place and not polyvalent at all.

Yep. Totally agree. I'm their target market too, and their ads make me feel old. Apple's current advertising would have been cool in the late 90's but they need to move on. And they all do have a slightly slimy American feel to them. In fact thinking about it the store layout fits this criteria too, cool in the nineties and made for the USA.

I get it that many Americans don't get (hate ?) that beats add, as they have no connection to soccer, but seriously, if you're in any way connected to the sports, as a fan or a player, that add was imo absolute genius !

Sounds like you have your finger on the pulse. Soccer? Lol.

It's about to go all 'Mad Men' up in here! Can't wait for Don Draper to swagger in and save the day.

What a phenomenal ad! Also, if anybody is interested in providing an alternate interpretation of what happens at 3:01, I'd greatly appreciate it, for all I can see is a low angle shot of a woman thrusting up and down (gif'd) as if in the midst of… anyway, what a great ad!

No, no, that's not sex. She's being beaten by 'Dr' Dre, that's why she's looking like that.

Exactly! Why can't they focus on telling people the facts that matter about what makes their product better, be it better post-sale service and support, 2-week no questions asked return or 1 case of accidental screen damage covered under warranty, higher rates of customer satisfaction etc etc etc.

So many things they can focus on instead of lame, cheesy and vaguely offensive ads that come across more like attempts to hoodwink you into buying a dodgy product with slick advertising.

As for the Mac Mini....sigh...

And that's why you don't work in advertising.

+100000 to THIS. It seems like Microsoft has the world's worst sense when it comes to advertising and marketing. Their Surface Pro 3 ad was the only one that I thought was halfway decent. Everything else makes me cringe. Especially when they want to act 'hip' (think: Zune). Aieeeee!

Indeed. But a brilliant advertising company CAN make you hip.

Sadly, Apple doesn't make Macs anymore. Just phones.

629 days since the last update of the Mac Mini. Not that this is my preferred Mac. Just saying... Apple is concentrating on phones much more than on some of their computers. Too bad. There are some loyal Mac Mini users. They deserve at least a spec bump once per year. 2 years between even small updates... not good, Apple. If they do put out an update on the Mac Mini, it had better be as drastic as the Mac Pro update was.

Given their "drastic" redesign of the Mac Pro, the mini will turn into a screen-less iPad.

Paranoia much?

Can not wait Apple finally selling out like MTV this was what I was waiting for next from Apple instead of improving iTunes Radio or moving into Spotify direction.

You and I watched different ads. The one I saw was compelling. Excellent soundtrack, with the cadence of Spartans going to war. Flashes of the culture from the participating countries. Visuals showed the passion that fans have for the World Cup participants and the passion of the Brazilian people. Can I assume you aren't a sports fan, because that conversation is the exact type of motivation fathers/coaches give sons in just about every sport imaginable. The mix of celebrity and everyman was a nice touch as well.

They may have been ticking boxes to get that result, but they ticked the right ones for their demographic. May not have been your cup of tea, as you said, you prefer Apple's more subtle ads. Nothing wrong with that. To each his own.

Spot on. What some of the people on here don't realize about the genius of the Beats ads is that it's targeted towards a very specific demographic and that demographic IS receptive to the ads. Why else would you hire a Richard Sherman or Kevin Garnett to appear? Those two athletes appeal to a very specific group.

This is very well said. Those who think the Mac/PC ads are the same as the recent Samsung ads need to rewatch the former. Hodgman's "PC" was thoroughly sympathetic (though obviously "Mac" was supposed to be your favorite), if boring, and the two characters were quite friendly with each other. Moreover, the ads never attacked PC *users,* just PCs (generically) themselves. Samsung's ads, especially the "next big thing" ads around the time of the iphone 5 release, were downright nasty towards not just apple but apple users.

I don't agree. Both apple/Microsoft and apple/Samsung ads are 'nasty ads' to those on the wrong side of each ad. They are both funny if you like the product they protrait positively. You can't have it both ways.

I've been sipping the Apple Kool-Aid long enough that i could care less if they even made commercials or campaigns.. ha-ha

:cool::apple:;)

HAHAHAHA, great post. I think that applies to EVERYONE here.

Apple needs to make sure they aren't preaching to the choir and step their ad game up, because their products aren't the leap and bounds ahead of their competitors as they used to be (although they are still ahead in my opinion).

If Apple pulls out (which it looks like they're about to do) Chiat Day will pretty much be scrambling for another account to keep them afloat. It's a great company with great visionaries and I know a few people who have worked for them but this is no laughing matter for the company. Media Arts Lab was created as a result of having Apple as a client. Sad news

Apple has definetly lost their mojo when it come to ads.

If you removed any logos you'd be hard pressed to decide whether it was an apple ad or an ad from a competitor. They all look so generic.

I guess big ugly headphones while working out is back in the market.

Great ad! Say what you want about Beats By Dre, but they are incredibly popular amongst celebrities, teenagers, etc. Sorry parents, but your kids now a days want BBD + iPhone's.

Agreed. And Apple's purchase of Beats speaks volumes about their direction, who they want to cater to.

The age of the nerd is over: They kill "computers".

The age of the geek is coming to an end: The intermediate devices like laptops turned into appliances.

Apple wants the hipster, the cool, the popular: iPhones/iPads in Pink, Blue, and Orange, Gold and Silver.

But then again, they've been moving that way for a while, all the way back to the first iMacs.

No Mustang, perhaps you just disagree with a lot of other people here without the tolerance to be polite about it.

I was sincere in my question regarding sarcasm because I assumed it had to be because this statement: "Besides Beats uses famous people in sports like Lebron to promote the product. Apple focuses on their product to promote itself" is so far from the truth it had to be sarcasm.

Famous people have been in Apple ads going all the way back to Dick Cavett in the early 80's. They've also used Sam Jackson, Martin Scorsese, and even Kevin Costner in this little "before they were famous" ad.

There are others as well. It has nothing to do with tolerance.

For the eleventh billion time, they are not even in the same league as far as classiness goes. The Apple ads were poking fun at PCs... not a specific brand either... and they were light-hearted and usually funny. The guy playing the PC (John Hodgman) as lovable. Whether you agreed with the ads or not, they didn't leave some horrendous aftertaste when it was over.

Samsung's ads are bitter, uncreative, and filled with misinformation or piss-poor examples of every day use. They also specially bash Apple instead of being a generic statement like Apple did with their ads.

Microsoft is guilt of this as well.

Apple ads were fun, whether they were accurate or not. Sammy's ads are irritating and hard to watch. Not all of Samsung's ads are bad though. I saw one a few months ago that was just showing their products and not bashing other companies and it had a very Apple-esque feel to it. It didn't make me want to gouge out my eyes with a spoon.

And yet, Phil Schiller refers to their ad campaign as being "in the zone".

So either something is wrong at Apple (or it's Marketing VP), or something is wrong with your view.
