Ive's obsession with thinness should be reflected in his body shape, not in the shape of the next generation iPhone. Any thinner, the iPhone 7 would appear to have bulimia :(

Since this thread will be amazing soon, any suggestions for wireless earbuds?
I've owned 4 different brands of wireless earbuds, and by far the best are the Jaybird X2s. Easily the best sound, small, good fit, water resistant, and on sale for Black Friday on some sites. The majority of respected tech site reviews favor the Jaybird X2s as well.

I don't understand this fantasy for super thin phones? I was happy with my iphone 4 and that was about 10mm! There's a point
where thinness is only going to be uncomfortable and cause problems... Which we've already seen with 6+.

Eventually we will all understand what a singularity will look like because Apple will make it for us (iPhone 8).

And here we GO. This surely will not end well.

Lol. That explains the Airpods trademark name or something. Ever since Tim Cook has taken ever, he has changed so many thing, usb-c MacBook, possibly this, and lightning cable, and MagSafe 2. What else!

Not to worry, you'll have 3 wonderful options:

1. $49.99 dongle
2. $149.99 apple bluetooth headphones
3. $299.99 beats wireless headphones

$$$ delicious accessories profits

I'll actually take numbers 2 and 3, but I don't think the Apple "AirPods" will be that expensive. My guess is no more than $80 - $100. I currently own the Beats Solo2 wireless (which is $300), but would still love to see a new lightning version.

Yes the 3.5mm gone then what next? The phone part - well that's not needed either - just wear the included bluetooth earbuds with a mic and then we can get rid of the mics and earpiece on the phone.

Raise your hand if you are asking for even thinner phones with smaller battery. Seriously, what is with the obsession with thinness, even at the cost of removing the headphone jack?
If you do not want a thinner and lighter iPhone you are not parallel with Apple's thinking at all. The iPhone can be so much thinner and lighter and the battery on mine already lasts 2 days. And Apple is always first to remove unnecessary ports which is what a 3.5mm audio jack is. There will still be 2 other ways to get audio out of the phone and even if you spent a lot of money on expensive wired headphones, you should know that the best audio quality will come from a native lightning connection.

So please stop asking who wants lighter and thinner phones because most of us do and Apple absolutely does. Until I have a phone the size, thinness and weight of a playing card, I will not feel like I'm in the future.

oh god no ! I hope this is really a RUMOR, and nothing else.

"Should this rumor prove to be true, Apple's decision to switch to an all-in-one Lightning connector for charging and audio output could face the same kind of controversy as when the company retired its proprietary 30-pin dock"

Not even close. The controversy will be 1000 times bigger. They are not replacing a proprietary pin ( 30-pin dock ) by another , they are replacing a planetary standard with a zero-benefit proprietary one.

Why have a jack at all? Time to go wireless.

And while at it, get rid of the SIM card. Give people a code so they can log on to the network. No need for cartridges 2015…

The article does state that with a 3.5mm to Lightning adaptor, older headphones will be compatible.

Who the bloody hell wants to carry an adaptor around just to listen to music? Another thing to loose, another expense, a pointless transition away from a standard port.

Dropping the headphone port would have to be one of the stupidest ideas ever. Not only would this be a very poor move in environmentally, but an expensive and pointless one. The iPhone is more than thin enough at the moment, so why not offer people the choice of a 3.5 mm jack and bluetooth headphones and lightning headphones?

Bluetooth headphones are just another bloody thing to keep charge and another drain on the iPhone's already semi dismal battery life.

I hope this remains a rumour.

I have no problem with them removing the connector - I use Bluetooth headphones anyways.

But iPhone 6 is already so thin, and with the rounded edges it's pretty slippery. I don't feel it's as secure holding in the hand as a 4 or 5.

If they are able to make the internals smaller, why not keep the casing size and make a bigger battery, so we can get 1-2 hours extra juice?

I don't know why Apple is being so anorexic...

Why have a headphone jack at all? Time to go wireless.

Yay!!! Lets spend more money to move away from an industry standard.

How about they leave the port and let people decide. If you want wireless headphones, good for you. Let those of us who don't want to dump more money on something which will drain battery life and be another thing to charge keep using 3.5 mm cables.

I'm so sick of messing around with airplay dropping out, bluetooth in the car messing up etc that plugging in a 3.5 mm plug is just so simple and without issue.

Why does Apple come up with a better way USB-C on Mac, because this is basically the sme type of thing on iPhone 7 if true..

"Wouldn't it be good to have one connector that could do everything"

The only difference, at least when the 30-pin was replaced, the audio jack stayed... But this time round, its gonna cause headaches..

"What !!, i need a dongle to attach my 3.5mm headphones? That's crazy talk"

It made much more sense if u wanted/needed to replace that 30-pin when going to a newer iPhone (although issues over that), at least the cables were from Apple...

3.5 headphone jack means everyone would need to use dongles, and if not, it won't work

Much bigger issue. I may not be able to use my current beats anymore,, and no way will i get a dongle for it, just because Apple says so... i'll listen on my Retina instead :p Alternatively, i just won't get an iPhone 7

FYI. yes ,, we wanna live in a world were batteries need to be replaced by blue-tooth technology let everyone charge us by getting then back into the store.*rolls eyes*..... That's the future ? I hope not. Everyone would be spending a fortune on batteries in their life--time, than they would Mac's

Adapter sold separately for just $19.99.
Also, nobody needs to charge an iPhone and possibly use the audio jack as well!
Bluetooth has the same audio quality as 3.5.
Total rubbish. In places where BT just won't work then listening to 'stuff' via wired headphones is the only way to go.
The last time I flew from LHR to LAX BT was just impossible. Well, there seemed to be 200+ others trying to use it as well.
Talk about choppy reception so going wired was the only way to go. For a 10 to 11 hr flght being able to charge the device is also pretty well a 'must do' action.

Care to revise tour statement?

Reminder that it's the 3.5 mm headphone jack that's the sole reason the iPhone is so thick.
"

"so thick" said Kate Moss, looking at the mirror. C'mon. At this point the quest for thinness has exceeded practicality. Each thinner model increases the need for stronger cases and external batteries that are heavy and another thing to pack. #nobodyremembersbendgate?
Seriously, the one pound I lost moving my work laptop to an ultra book was replaced by an external battery for my iPhone and iPad.

Am I the only one hoping for an "iPhone Pro" with a heavy-duty case and screen and a battery life that would last for a long trip?

More prove once again, that Apple does not profit from hardware or software, but from ridiculously over priced cables and adapters by forcing you to buy them.

Why make larger battery to last longer, when they can sell you 3x cables for home/work/car? Why sell only one cable to charge, when they can sell one cable to charge and an adapter for your headphones? Better yet, buy their lightning headphones so you won't have a dangle adapter.
