I'm probably the only one who bought 3 of them. I remember that many have bought them, because there are several used ones but they are not found for less than 400€ in my area.
"no one bought them" was more hyperbolic, what I meant is that the sales number of that thing was so low that Apple decided to kill it after just 2 years because it was not worth it to keep it anymore. Of course some people bought them, and even more people would have bought them if they didn't have issues that most people considered deal breakers.

As you'll come to find, regardless of what anyone says on the internet, it's actually entirely about the price. Do these people actually want a 12" MacBook? No. They want a current generation MacBook that costs $899.
It's not about the price for me. I like the portability (weight and form factor). The main reason why I opted for the iPhone SE in previous years not because of the price, but because of the form factor, though I hated that it was old tech. I recently got the 13 mini and I love it.

I am more than happy to pay a premium price for a compact and portable device. I avoided the 12" MacBook because of the reports of the keyboard. If Apple were to re-introduce the 12" MacBook with today's keyboard and a recent chip, my wallet will be ready to buy a maxed out version of it.

Why would anybody need that?

You really need that ONE inch less than the 13-inch MacBook Air?

That ONE inch makes the difference between too big and just right for some people?

I‘ll never understand that, I almost find steps of two inches between models too small. 🤷‍♂️

I'll never understand people who don't understand other people can have different preferences.

It's not really a question of "need" as much as it is "want".

I've still got a 2017 one. Very nice computers really. Just a bit slow and the keyboard isnt great. But its so light, its not even something you have to think about taking anywhere. The market for this was that you could essentially put it in a hand bag or a tote and not feel it at all. Business execs who just email and use office all day would love it.

Its also the best windows machine I ever had in bootcamp mode! Its actually much faster using it in windows.

I still think that this will more likely be an iPad with a keyboard attached. The iPad with a magic keyboard is not as light or slick as a 12 inch MacBook Pro was. If they would make a iPad like one of those Lenovo yoga things but with a better, thinner form factor, then I think its a winner.

Yes please. But it's not gonna happen.
Intel ones were a disaster, way over-Apple-ish experiments with little power, big compromises and big prices.
Now we know they can fit their great desktop CPU with passive cooling and long battery life basically anywhere and for cheap, thanks to iPads.
A cute little M2 Mac would be great. Great enough to steal too many Air buyers, IMHO.

I’m not sure why Apple wouldn’t just convert the 12” MacBook to a MacBook Air Mini, so that they round out the lineup to be 12” MBA Mini, 13” MBA, and 15” MBA Max. The Mini would be focused on light weight with just enough power and battery life for general computing use. The middle-range MBA would be a slight step up in power and battery life and the Max would offer close-to MBP power and battery life, but be priced below the 14” MBP base price.

I never desired a computer more than the Powerbook G4 12 Al, a Mx version would be a dream. I'm not convinced it would sell well though.

Apple may be continuing its plans to bring back the 12-inch MacBook, a sketchy rumor shared on the Korean blog Naver claims.

2016-12-inch-macbook-feature.jpg

The post comes from the account "yeux1122," which has a mixed track record aggregating accurate Apple rumors. According to an alleged source at a company that supplies parts to Apple in Taiwan, Apple is preparing to reintroduce the 12-inch MacBook. The company purportedly seems to be weighing up the future of the device and has yet to confirm if it will reach launch. Nevertheless, production activities related to the device are said to be ongoing. Apple apparently plans to confirm whether the device will move forward to mass production as soon as the second half of this year.

In 2022, Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo said that he hadn't heard of any plans for a new 12-inch MacBook model. Display analyst Ross Young similarly expressed "skepticism" about Apple launching new MacBooks with display sizes below 13-inches.

Introduced in March 2015, the original 12-inch MacBook featured a thin and light design that weighed just two pounds, and was Apple's first notebook to feature a fanless design, USB-C port, and butterfly switch keyboard. Apple updated the 12-inch MacBook in June 2017 and discontinued the device in 2019. Upon the announcement of Apple's transition to its own custom silicon chips for the Mac, there was renewed interest in the potential of a new 12-inch MacBook.

Bloomberg's Mark Gurman was first to concretely spark rumors about Apple reintroducing a 12-inch MacBook model with Apple silicon last year, saying that the device could come at the end of 2023 or in early 2024. Last month, he said that the new 12-inch MacBook was no longer on the company's near-term roadmap, but stopped short of ruling the device out completely, meaning that it being pushed into 2024 or later may still be possible, which could align with the latest claims from Naver.

I love my MacBook 12 retina and I want it back!

Apple decided to withdraw it in September 2019, don't listen to trolls who write 2 years. The first one I bought was produced in April 2015, the last one in August 2019: it's 4 years.
Apple didn’t withdraw it because it didn’t sell, Apple withdrew it because Intel chips sucked and the war on butterfly keyboards, which couldn’t be stopped on a similar product other than rethinking it from scratch, weren’t correctable.
Forget the trolls they hate, the product sold and also sold well, it was a Mac with the clutter of an iPad, now we have more bulky iPads than Macs, heavier, which cost twice as much and continue to be of no use without macOS.
Trolls hate it because it's a product of Ive, and you can see it.

It's not about the size as much as the fact it's almost a pound lighter.

hopefully they shrink the bezels to make the display larger, and hopefully they can make the board so thin that they can use the Magic Keyboard instead of the butterfly keys. And that would definitely be my school laptop.

I’m not against this, but wow is the Apple product lineup getting messy if it’s true. This would be competing with the M2 MacBook Air, M1 MacBook Air, 13” MacBook Pro, 11” iPad Pro, and iPad Air. Hell, maybe even the iPad 10th gen.
That’s going on the basis they intend to keep the M1 Air and 13” MBP in the lineup, which you have no evidence to suggest. Given the rumoure around this and thr 15” Air, I’d doubt they would. As for the iPads, yes there may be overlap but they are still different product lines from Macbooks for a reason. Many people still want different form factors.

It's not any more portable than the 13" MacBook Air.

That’s cool and all, but their product offering has been confusing and all over the place the last few years.

The ghost of Steve Jobs is about to come back and draw this on their meeting whiteboard lol.

How was Apple ever expected to grow without addressing different marget segements? Computing needs have changed significantly since this. Apple know far more than the fanboy with ill-informed opinions about a product range, when said fanboy owns or only ever intend to own 1 product from that range. The products make sense to the specific markets they are aimed at, as demonstrated by their Mac sales lately.

Well I always chose the iPhone 6 over the iPhone 6 Plus, even if its less than an inch, that makes a huge difference. The latter is way too big. And so did the new models that came after it.

Surely you understand it with iPhones? They’re devices with screens in general.

I even notice the difference from 13.5” to 14” from MBA and MBP and it’s a noticeable difference.

And that 1mm made a huge difference with Apple Watch Series 7.

Highly doubt it. The demand is for larger screens, like the iPhone mini has shown. Plus, more margins for Apple.

If they need a low-cost device, they’ll just reuse the previous Air design.

I really wish I had a reason to buy an Apple computer (especially a 12”).

I have very found memories of the 12” titanium, but I was writing very often and it was great to post up at a coffee shop.

Before that I was doing video editing and so the silver door G4 was awesome to have.

Now? I just web browse, and play occasional Doom, and TeamViewer remote into office computer to work on rare occasion I have to work from home.

I really wish I had a reason to want this 12” :) (or any Apple computer for that matter: the Mac mini looks really great)

I still think there's room for a computer just called MacBook. Bring high refresh rate to the Air and add another couple USB ports and slot in the MacBook where the Air is now, preferably even cheaper.

I know I know Apple's lineup is confusing enough already but I think in the area of laptops there is room for more option.
I don’t know. Are you sure the high refresh can be added without the upgraded chip or at least active cooling?

Who's demand? Can you try to imagine that certain products have a reference niche, and they don't have to make large margins? Because with this nonsense that people want wide screens Apple produces an iPhone 14 Max that doesn't sell, such a point that sold the 13 mini the most!

You want huge junk: Apple makes it for you.

Is it possible that other customers who want small products can be satisfied? Not everyone has to compensate.
