From engadget:

“Apple is leading the digital music revolution, but to us, at it’s core, it’s all about the music.” Steve introduces “16 time grammy award winner, the incomparable Yo Yo Ma” in the audience. “He’s mad at me now, probably.”

Nice core pun steve!

The only physical product will be the Motorola phone. What'll be announced however will be more than that. The notion that you can be anywhere, want to listen to a particular track, and use your phone to buy it from the iTunes Music Store. Assuming they're tapping into Cingular's 3Gish EDGE network, it'll probably be possible to play it as you're downloading it as it'll download faster than the 128kbps of a normal AAC track.

*yawn*

Boring.

I have never, ever, been in a situation which would utilize this service.

I can imagine myself strolling around town or sitting at work and thinking to myself, "Gee, I'd really like to hear song X right now." But that's it. Chances are that song X is something I already have. If it's not on my iPod at the moment, I'm not going to spend any money just to hear it at whim. I can wait until I get home, or until I get a chance to get it off my laptop if I'm carrying it.

If it's not a song I already have, I still am not going to pay more than $.99 for it, and chances are I'm just going to buy the CD, or download it for free elsewhere. (*shock! 😱 horror!*)

I suppose there will be hordes of fickle teens guilt-tripping their parents into buying them these phones and then running around town buying every new song they hear on the radio. Their parents better be damn rich and stupid...

Japan store down....

which means we could get something here too, and the iPhone has no carrier in Japan?

To people who can't use the phone???? Um... no.

BTW, iLounge is completely swamped and isn't loading.... can anyone who can get it to load keep us updated?

Here's what they have so far:

News in reverse chronological order:
Seated in presentation hall
Media has been let inside the presenation hall. Apple has a Cinema Display on stage with iSight camera. "Hey Mama" by Black Eyed Peas, "Feel Good Inc." by Gorillaz, and "Hell Yes (Remix)" by Beck are first three songs played.

We're posting some photos live from the event with our cameraphones. Check out the pics here. We'll have high quality photos from our real cameras later today.

iLounge on scene at Moscone Center
The bottom floor of Moscone is empty save for a few sign-in tables and 70-80 persons from the media. A lone pink iPod poster, understated, hangs at one end of the building. The third floor has three large iPod posters--blue green and yellow. Each is based on one of the known posters.

Can't be only the phone, if it's available in the US and UKL only, why would the Canadian store be down!

Something has to be hapening with the iTunes store (USA) as it did not get a full weekly update on Tuesday as usual. Something is a changin'...

Someone noted that after a Monday holiday, the Tuesday updates is always bumped to Wednesday anyway. Not sure if that's true--but I know there have been other "late Tuesdays" in the past.

What is your source, and how about Japan?

confirms? cause no, the key words here are emphasis on "hope".

I just mean confirms in the sense that it's an outside, independent source that comes to the same conclusion - a reasonable use of the word, no? Remember, as opposed to focusing on a single word for a statement's meaing, these posts are made within the entire context of a speculative rumor site.

Other than the word "hope," the article also says its speculative analysis is based on a review of many sources of information, statements by Steve, etc. :

The sizzle is in what Apple comes up with to turbocharge the iPod -- or to create entirely new devices so irresistible that, iPod-like, they'll blast open vast new markets. Analyzing that requires some speculation, of course. But here's what a raft of evidence -- both concrete and circumstantial -- suggests is coming down the Apple pipeline, and how likely it is to survive Jobs's brutal product-winnowing process.
