Here's my educated "three day wild guess" on what will happen at the 9 September 2009 event:

1) Phil Schiller takes the stage, and starts talking about the continued success of the iPod line, especially with the fact 25% of all new music is now sold through the iTunes Store, especially now with all downloadable music in iTunes Plus format.

Yep. thats the deal. We wait like 10 minuntes while they go through the boring stuff, and see the same :boring" come on" crap on the live feeds on macrumors and engadget

2) Schiller then shows the new 5G iPod nano, essentially the 4G nano with a wider aspect ratio screen and a built-in camera on back of the player, still limited to 8 and 16 GB storage capacity. The new 5G nano will have an improved version of the 4G nano's interface.
16:9 ratio. Don't agree on the camera, but you'll never know. I believe 8GB will be disconunted, and 16 and 32GB will the the standard. Hell, add 64GB.

The interface might mock the "ipod" screen on the iPhone. a row on the bottom with "music" "video" podcasts etc. to get to the upper half just push the top half of the click whell.

what about colors?

23) Schiller then shows the new 7G iPod classic, essentially the same physical size as the 6G classic but with a new, larger 16:10 aspect screen and a smaller click wheel to accommodate the bigger screen, with the user interface now akin to that of the 5G nano. Storage will still likely be the single-platter 120 GB hard drive, unless a single-platter 160 GB is now available.

16:10? why not 16:9, you know to fit movies.

Same UI,

what about colors?

24) Schiller then turns it over Steve Jobs, who shows the new 3G iPod touch (essentially an iPhone 3Gs minus the cellphone functionality) running the iPhone 3.1 software. Storage capacities will be 16 GB, 32 GB and 64 GB.

Agree on all parts, but what about the design? I see a unibody design..

There will be a surprise on stage as Paul McCartney makes an appearance (either in person or over satellite), performing old Beatles songs.

No increase in storage on the nano or classic ? Now that's innovation right there. I'm sorry, if that happens it will be a disaster.

The Nano needs to go to 32GB, the Touch to 64GB or 128GB and the Classic to 500GB. Seriously. I don't care how great the iPods are, no big increases in capacity will be suicidal. Two letters : HD.

I don't suppose there's any chance of Paul playing any new Beatles songs. :D

Lets all get back to reality. Heres whats going to happen.

Most likely Phil Schiller will come on stage and do this years keynote. He will briefly talk numbers and sales and market share crap. First he'll introduce iTunes 9 and go over all the new things to it. Possibly bring up this new "cocktail" feature while he's going through iTunes 9. Then he'll talk iPod classic, probably drop the price 50 dollars or increase storage or even stop producing them altogether. Then he'll talk iPod nano, and introduce the next gen nano with a camera and possibly other small features. Then he'll talk about iPod Touch and the incredible success of the app store, and announce the latest download numbers etc. Then he'll introduce the next generation iPod Touch with the same upgraded internals in the 3GS and now a built in camera and microphone. He will then show us the latest iPod nano and iPod Touch ads. Then special guest performance, perhaps something Beatles related. He will wrap everything up and thank everybody for coming out to the event. Shows over.

Done. Thats it. Quit thinking Apples going to do all kinds of crazy things. Its not going to happen. Nobody here seems to know their Apple history.

5) Jobs will demonstrate the Cocktail album liner note system, one that works with the new iPod touch and the 7G iPod classic (since both have screens big enough to handle the text and artwork of the digital liner notes).

6) Jobs will in conclusion announce that the new remastered Beatles catalog will now be available on the iTunes Store, the first time Beatles music will be officially available there. There will be a surprise on stage as Paul McCartney makes an appearance (either in person or over satellite), performing old Beatles songs.

Thank you. Finally some rational posts.

The tiny hard drives (1.8" form factor) they use in the iPod Classic don't come in anywhere near 500GB capacities.

I know that. Apple needs to see a psychiatrist about there slim and sexy product psychosis and add a couple of millimeters and a few grams to their iPods and give them the bloody storage capacity they need. Jeebus, do all their products have to be built like Steve ?

If Apple didn't include the camera function in the 5G nano, going to 32 GB maximum storage capacity is a cinch. But since it will include a camera, the space taken up by the lens and the camera circuitry will mean the new 5G nanos are still (alas) limited to 8 GB and 16 GB storage capacities.

You can forget about the classic going to more than 120 GB, unless Apple gets a new 160 GB single-platter drive or goes back to the old, thicker case to accommodate a 240 GB dual-platter hard drive. There is a possibility that the "7G classic" I described could go to a 128 GB flash-memory drive, since by not needing the circuitry needed for get the advanced functionality of the iPod touch, the "7G classic" could easily accommodate a 128 GB SSD. Mind you, the cost could be quite steep: possibly US$399, versus US$249 for the 120 GB HD "7G classic" I suggested.

If they have a 128GB SD drive fior the classic, they might as well use that for the touch (more space for apps, movies music and more)

If you agree on at least of of the ideas, then you saying "all of them don't make sence" is false.

Apple is not apple because of white cables and headphones. I dont see any other product besides time capsule, the macbook, the in ear headphones that use white. Everything is now unibody.

Curent shuffle sucks , everyone knows that. No problem introducing a new update

whats worng with larger screens?

You may be a kid, but there are people who know a bit more then you do.

Numerous spelling errors and assumptions about what I do or do not know based my age aside...I still haven't seen anything on your side that would make MOST of the things you've predicted valid guesses.

Shuffle: just updated, screen doesn't make sense for what the shuffle has always been and what it will most likely continue to be.

Headphones: The headphones being white are an iconic symbol of the iPod, without the iPod a whole lot of people would not have switched to Macs that are using them now. I am included in that, but that doesn't really matter. If Apple made the headphones black they would look like 98% of the other headphones on the market, and it's pretty evident that Apple likes to do things differently.

Larger screens: Awkward to hold (especially for the iPhone), wouldn't fit in most pockets, all apps would need to be updated with new screen resolutions. That requires a lot of time, money, and work from developers and Apple. Again, doesn't make sense.

Unibody iPods: Unibody Macs are still 4 pieces (including the screen). And every single iPod is basically 4 pieces of less. They are pretty much as unibody as you could get short of somehow transforming parts of the aluminum into glass so that they are TRULY one piece.

iPod Classic: The price drop makes sense, but having 2 separate HD sizes, especially ones that are so close to each other, doesn't seem like something they would do. Apple cut the classic line down to just one size, why would they split it up again? I cannot think of any other product in recent history that they've done that with. I honestly think that they might cut the classic line altogether.

Black rubber Apple shaped antenna: WTF?!!?

3.1 Landscape home screen: I don't know why anybody would want to walk around using their phone in landscape 100% of the time. That would be like holding a Sidekick, and only 14 girls with mullets use Sidekicks. It doesn't make sense to me, and if they do it, I think it will be really dumb.

Whatever else you said, I don't remember because you said so much. I gave you what I think are valid rebuttals to all of your predictions.

So...still think I'm to young to know anything? Do you have anything as a VALID argument?

1.I wonder if SNOW LEOPARD will be held off until or released then
2. EMI and APPLE announce Beatles exclusive first availability on iTunes for on month
that would kick ass

tablets
schmablets

CRAZY QUESTION: I was just wondering how one gets invited to an event like this? Is it media only? has anyone here ever been to one?

Its a music only event, the rumored tablet is supposed to be focused around its video capabilities.

throwing it out there...at full force.

You may be a kid, but there are people who know a bit more then you do.

And you aren't one of them. No offense, but you really just don't sound intelligent at all.

None of your "predictions" are realistic or make any sense. You don't even have the slightest clue about how Apple operates as a business. I could refute all your bizarre predictions individually and explain why you're clueless, but I'd be spending more time than I should. I mean...the shuffle getting a screen? LOL. The whole purpose of the shuffle is exactly why its called that, SHUFFLE. Its meant to be a cheap simple player that only SHUFFLES, so there will never be a screen on an iPod SHUFFLE. Apple has the shuffle exactly for this purpose, then they have the Nano for if you want something MORE than just a shuffle with a screen and more features. Adding a screen for the shuffle makes it too similar to an already existing product. Also, given Steves obsession with minimal product design, he would probably never add a simple little LED to only display the current song. The new shuffle having no buttons enforces that whole minimal design ideology that Steve is obsessed with.

Apple has a very strong business model because they have a product lineup that is VERY focused. All your stupid predictions completely abandon Apple and Steve Jobs' philosophy on a very focused product strategy.

All I gotta say is LOL @ you saying "everything is now unibody." There are only two Apple products that are "unibody" the MBP and the MBA. You obviously don't even have the slightest clue just what the hell unibody even means or what the purpose of it is. You "predict" a new feature of the iPod Touch will be a unibody design???? That seriously almost made me spit out my drink.

But I guess thats why you're just some joe shmoe posting on Macrumors, and not one of the brains working at Apple.

If Apple wants my money they are going to have to introduce a new Classic with an updated OS that can handle large amounts of files and a hard drive size that is AT MINIMUM 240GB.

I used to buy a new iPod every year but last year they had nothing to offer me so I kept my money. We will see what happens this time.
