well, as I've said before, I couldn't care less about a tablet, Apple or otherwise, since I have 0 need for something like that... and I say "need" because "would probably still want" would be a better way of phrasing it :).

as for the 9.9.09 Apple event, I'm crossing my fingers for three things:
1. 3G iPod touch with 16/32/64GB options (priced to compete with the Zune HD at $199/299/399); possible camera w/ or w/o video (this wouldn't be a deal-breaker for me, though); 720p video playback support (again, not a deal-breaker); and a larger/higher-resolution/more properly 16:9 OLED screen to give the Zune HD further competition- this would seal the deal for me.
2. iTunes 9 with full 64-bit support (to fit with the 64-bit nature of Snow Leopard) and the move toward making items like Genius and the rumored "social networking" feature optional during install- this would be huge for me since I only need iTunes for storing my music, everything else is just unnecessary bloat (gosh, I miss the days of iTunes 4/5- even though one thing I don't miss about those versions was the lack of gapless audio playback).
3. the Beatles' remastered discography available on iTunes- I know of many, many people who would snatch this up in a heartbeat if this "rumor" actually played out... I'm still going to opt for the cd versions, but it would be nice to finally be able to have iTunes-based album artwork for my current Beatles discography (since it's on a shrinking list of albums in my library which don't have artwork yet).

if this was the entirety of the event, I'd be a happy man... but I won't complain if there happens to be a "one more thing" at the end- though I couldn't begin to guess what it'd be since the remaining rumors seem to carry little to no weight and be nothing more than speculation.

Ever since 2006, there has been no Mac announcments at the September event. This is how I expect it to go (in order)
1. Stats about iTunes/iPod/Mac OS X Snow Leopard (45% of the install base to snow leopard in the first 10 days :p, that is a bit of a hyperbole but you get the idea)
2. iPod Classic storage bump/same price
3. iPod Nano same form factor but with added camera and associated software. Bluetooth chip for A2DP Bluetooth and Nike+iPod built in
4. New iPod Touch with camera and GPS chip.
5. iPhone OS 3.1 with Voice Control for all iPhones.

AT&T announces immediate availability of MMS

And the stupid crowd cheers and quickly forgets the complaints, the moans, the groans, and the class action suits. Suddenly both Apple and AT&T are Gods again! They'll clap as though there was never a delay of any sort.

Tell that to the students, realitors, nurses and writers I sell the HP TX2 to.

12", 4GB, 320GB HD and a ATI 3200 video card. $799

That's not a tablet. Swivel-based notebooks have been around for like 10 years and as you can tell, sell very poorly. That HP has a touch-screen...too bad the touch demonstration on the HP is all fake...all "simulated".

It's been available for close to a year on Amazon and 28 people have bought it...and overall rating is 3 out of 5 stars.

Again, it's not a tablet...this thread is about Apple possibly releasing a Tablet...HP clearly advertises this as a Notebook.

What are rumored 10 inch touch screens for then ?

There were strong rumors recently of Wintek 10 inch touch screens being delivered to Apple in the Summer 09 time-frame. Would Apple pile these screens up in a warehouse until a tablet launch in 2010? Seems very odd!

This person speaks the truth. It is quite amusing. As for me...the day the iPhone goes to Verizon (and it will happen eventually), I will be going with it.

Apple Media Event Scheduled for September 9th? No Tablet Announcement?

The title of this article should instead be Apple Media Event Scheduled for September 9th. (period) No Tablet Announcement. (period)

Wirelessly posted (iPhone: Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 3_0_1 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/528.18 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0 Mobile/7A400 Safari/528.16)

New iPods here we come.

How about a completely reengineered version of iTunes for Windows that is designed to work with in a way that Windows users are used to (rather than a port of the Mac versions)

well, I don't expect tablet stuff this time. it's too early to finish that product even though we have seen some files on iphone software 3.0. as we know, Apple never releases unfinished product, is never hurry up for new one. as rumors say, we will see tablet someday next year if it is possible. anyway, it seems something has been confirmed on new ipods. for third generation touch, and 5th generation nano will have camera on the back. but I hope that Apple would replace the back to some matte, scratch resistant material like ipod nano. I don't want to cover all my ipods & iphone by cases. if Apple will change material for iphone near the future, I will be happier ever. plus, I am not sure whether Apple will update iTunes or not. but I don't think that social networking site like facebook or another streaming radio last. fm will be added. of course, last. fm is little different from itunes streaming radio. it makes your favorites, then streaming similar one? but 'cocktail' will be really true. I also want to change some feature on iTunes store (app store). actually, it's not easy to find what I really want to get.

we will see new very soon. we all fingers cross.

what?

what?

Media Event is obviously going to be about Snow Leopard but i'm going to hold my breath YET AGAIN for the hope of a new 30" monitor.

As iTunes, DVD Player and Frontrow have all been left off the 64bit list in Snow Leopard, i suspect a big change in the media player front.

I could see iTunes 9 being rewritten in cocoa with the full screen function of front row and DVD player built in. Alongside bluray and managed copy support.

Whether we'll get a 64bit version on windows with quicktime 10 and the above or will the PC be the poor cousin, remains to be seen.

Windows media player 11 + media centre, is getting quite competitive in the HTPC sphere with the full screen interface, playback of different formats and on windows 7 the media sharing/library functionality.

M.

This media event will not be about Snow Leopard. September is the time for iPod, as shown over the past several years. It may even be out before then.

Yet the iMac which traditionally see's an update in August has so far not gotten a peep. If the rumours of bluray support hold true i would expect a superdisk refresh to at least the iMac line.

Just cos they've used September for iPod and iTunes announcements in the past does not preclude other categories getting a look in. It may just be them saying btw Snow Leopard will be available today/end of the week.

The iMac does not "Traditionally" get updated in August, and lately it has been on a roughly 10 month cycle. Based on that, and the lack of chips from Intel, the most likely date is early 2010 with the Arrandale Processors:

3/2009
4/2008
8/2007
9/2006
1/2006
10/2005
5/2005
8/2004
11/2003
9/2003
2/2003

There was a rumor of a Fall price drop, but that wouldn't occur at the Annual iPod Event.

Arrandale may get launched Q1 2010, but won't hit the iMac til March/April. There's no way they are going to leave it that long. Either they update the iMac in September alongside bluray support or there'll be an October price/spec bump for the xmas season.

BTW Arrandale sounds like classic vapourware at this point, so after pulling it forward to 2H2009 and then back to Q1 2010, it wouldn't surprise me if it didn't slip again to Q2 2010.

If they announce the Beatles, I hope most hard core music fans go for the remastered CDs first. They will be so cool (great packaging) and sound amazing. Next I know i AM IN THE MONORITY BUT I WANT A 240GB OR BIGGER IPOD. KEEP ONE CLASSIC IN PRINT AND KEEP IT BIG for us music freaks who want to take it all with us. I can't fit my music on my 160 anymore.

I have the 1990 masters of all of the Beatles CDs starting with RS, except the "White Album", and for similar reasons. There are about six or seven songs from that album that I'd like to have in my iTunes collection but with the going rate for the current two-disk set at >$30, well, I figure nobody needs "Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da" that bad. ;)

Its funny, because they used to release some songs like "Hey Jude" and the rippin' version of "Revolution" only on singles. But now it's somehow artistically impure for people to pick and choose just the songs they like off their albums. Go figure.

Actually it was the Beatles who in Britain actually gave their fans true value. The UK albums NEVER had the singles on them (until much later hits albums). It was the US label Capitol who forced us to buy them over and over. Buying a 45 and then the songs were also added on albums and in different configurations that the Beatles intended.
