And what do you think that will get you?

A reasonable startup time. For god sakes it's a music player, it should start as fast as Safari!

It'll give the developers a chance to strip out all the unnecessary bits, like the app management, iPod syncing, iPhone syncing, Apple TV management, ringtone making, etc.

the beatles dont own most of their music anymore it was owned by michael jackson

The Beatles do own their recordings NOT the Jackson estate. The Jackson estate only owns the publishing which means he gets a cut but cannot sell the Beatles recordings at all. But if someone covers the song, he gets $$. he can also license the songs for commercials and movies but NOT the original Beatles recordings. They have entire control of those.

Here here,

It's the last bloated beast of an app that i care to keep around anymore.

Also for iPhone, iPod and perhaps a future iPad to be managed by a music library is a bit of a joke in the corporate world.

I can visualize:

iTunes (Media library, Media Store, Playback, Media sync)
iDevice Manager (Device syncing, app management, cell service, app store)

Either is an optional install and if you have both installed, you can get to your iPhone sync panel from within iTunes just as you do now, or work in seperate apps.
:)

No Tablet Announcement?

i don`t think so!

Mac OS X on it, not the iPhone OS !

What the f**k can you possibly do with that? It looks like a ton of stupid. Also, I think you people are completely idiotic for thinking Apple is going to release anything other that music related items at a music-only event. What the f**k does a tablet have to do with music?

Seriously, get realistic folks. Music event - you know like iPods and iTunes.

Seriously, get back to real life, Apple hasn't announced squat yet. Maybe they'll provide a clue in the media invite which might appear in 2 weeks time if the RUMOUR of a POSSIBLE event happening on 9th Sept comes true.

You ASSUME it's a purely music event because it has been for the last 3 years. Doesn't mean Apple has to repeat itself.

ASSUMPTION is the MOTHER of ALL F***UPS

Well, here's to me hoping for a 32GB iPod Nano in the $199-$225 price range.

Possible though unlikely. The touch is more likely to push downward than the nano push upwards. I suspect that due to the popularity of the overall touch platform and Apple's desire to move it's iPod customers to trade up from plain ol mp3 players, the nano range will become squeezed at the entry level.

It's still fake.

Yeah it's really lacking that reality distortion field coating that a real Apple toy possesses.

Seriously if and when a tablet appears, i fully expect draw dropping awesomeness from a device that's been 6 years in making and 6 (am i right on this?) back to drawing board redesigns. I also expect all tablet haters to spontaneously combust in their own bile. Shame that last bit will never happen.

Prove it :p. But you have to admit it does look pretty real. Except the Home button. If it was running OS X, why would it need that?

Because you'd still need a physical way to kill a crashed application that won't relinquish control of the touchscreen.

There is still a market for Nano users, such as those of us who are athletic and active. A Touch in my opinion would not be able to hold up to rigorous training and abuse. I've dropped my 2g Nano a thousand times, ran miles in the rain with it, used it in the dead of winter, used it when doing drills, tripped once or twice running in the woods with it. It's survived a ton of abuse, which the Touch would've died a thousand painful deaths by now in similar situations.

They will release The Beatles' back catalogue on iTunes. The complete remasters of their albums are released on CD on Sept 9th.

Beatles On iTunes??

Every year Apple creates a buzz (and much speculation) when it holds it's annual iTunes/iPod media event in September. This event usually yields a new generation of each iPod alongside a new version of iTunes. Normally, there are many rumors whirling around about possible new features added to the iPods and iTunes. The last three years has also generated a lot of whispers that the (long-awaited) Beatles catalogue would be coming to the iTunes Store. This year, for some reason, there seems to be no talk of The Beatles on iTunes. However, Apple's media event has been schedule for September 9th - a date which coincides with the re-release of The Beatles catalogue (digitally-remastered) as well as The Beatles Rock Band video game. Despite the lack of buzz, this year's event seems more likely than ever to announce that The Beatles are coming to the iTunes Store.

It's really NOT likely that Apple would make another product to create a competition against its own laptop line.

Even if there was a tablet, the functions would be semi-crippled like the iPhone. This product wouldn't be ready just like till the 3rd gen iPhone, it's still not up to par. However, this 3rd one is a lot better than the 1st gen.

Keep dreaming on this unrealistic tablet pc.

I never understood this theory, "competing against its own..." If something fills a gap in the product line, and makes a sale where there otherwise wouldn't be one, or by being newer, sleeker and more expensive (like the MBA), upgrades a sale from a product within the line, then how is this bad?

You could grow up and stop swearing.:)

Apple could easy menton it, like they did with the 1srt generation iPhone and realse it months later

Gotta love the enthusiasm and optimism of the Macrumors community. But I am going to laugh when Apple sends out the invites for the event and it has a music related theme on it. Can't wait to hear everyones excuses then, probably still will try to argue that the event isn't only going to be iPod/iTunes.

what ones don't make sense?

Pretty much all of them. I think that maybe you have the pricing on the iPod touch right. And the fact that it will have a camera, but other than that... I don't see any of that happening, the black apple shaped antennae, the classic drive sizes. Apple wouldn't make black headphones, the white ones are too iconic, and they have kind of made Apple the company it is (in terms of the size of the user base). And the shuffle having a screen makes absolutely no sense at all. Not only because they updated it not too long ago, but because the point of the shuffle is a simple, cheap, small device. The larger screens on everything, the iPhone 3.1 update with a landscape home screen...

NONE of these hold any water, and I will give you a medal if ANY of these things are announced at the September event.

ya the media event is going to be on september 9th. just look at apples web page it says the back to school special ends on the 8th so it would only make sense for it to be on the 9th

If you agree on at least of of the ideas, then you saying "all of them don't make sence" is false.

Apple is not apple because of white cables and headphones. I dont see any other product besides time capsule, the macbook, the in ear headphones that use white. Everything is now unibody.

Curent shuffle sucks , everyone knows that. No problem introducing a new update

whats worng with larger screens?

You may be a kid, but there are people who know a bit more then you do.

and? it could be on the 7th and still won't matter. Its been said countless times before, the back to school promotion has nothing to do with the ipod event. If the event came before the promo ended, the new ipods won't be part of the back to school promotion.

Here's my educated "three day wild guess" on what will happen at the 9 September 2009 event:

1) Phil Schiller takes the stage, and starts talking about the continued success of the iPod line, especially with the fact 25% of all new music is now sold through the iTunes Store, especially now with all downloadable music in iTunes Plus format.

2) Schiller then shows the new 5G iPod nano, essentially the 4G nano with a wider aspect ratio screen and a built-in camera on back of the player, still limited to 8 and 16 GB storage capacity. The new 5G nano will have an improved version of the 4G nano's interface.

3) Schiller then shows the new 7G iPod classic, essentially the same physical size as the 6G classic but with a new, larger 16:10 aspect screen and a smaller click wheel to accommodate the bigger screen, with the user interface now akin to that of the 5G nano. Storage will still likely be the single-platter 120 GB hard drive, unless a single-platter 160 GB is now available.

4) Schiller then turns it over Steve Jobs, who shows the new 3G iPod touch (essentially an iPhone 3Gs minus the cellphone functionality) running the iPhone 3.1 software. Storage capacities will be 16 GB, 32 GB and 64 GB.

5) Jobs will demonstrate the Cocktail album liner note system, one that works with the new iPod touch and the 7G iPod classic (since both have screens big enough to handle the text and artwork of the digital liner notes).

6) Jobs will in conclusion announce that the new remastered Beatles catalog will now be available on the iTunes Store, the first time Beatles music will be officially available there. There will be a surprise on stage as Paul McCartney makes an appearance (either in person or over satellite), performing old Beatles songs.
