So for many years, iPhone users have had to deal with proselytisation attempts from Android fans, who felt that it was absolutely necessary to tell none-Android-users that their choice of phone was completely wrong. And if you told them that you are perfectly happy with your iPhone, you were often told that in reality, you are not and that you are really jealous of Android phones, and that you are only trying to justify your purchase.

Now Apple was stupid enough to release two different-sized phones, and suddenly that behaviour has entered into the Apple community. Suddenly, you have people in these forums who really really have to convince others that they made a big mistake in buying a 6 Plus, because it is definitely too big for everyone. Their happiness depends on other people not liking different things. According to them, someone who claims that they do anything with that phone one-handed is a dirty liar, and people who claim that they are happy with it are either just trying to justify their purchase or will notice soon how wrong they are. Because of course, it's a matter of right or wrong, black or white. There is no chance that different people have different requirements or different usage patterns. It can't be that different people are happy with different phones. Impossible!

Apple, really, you guys couldn't predict that? You should have realized by now that a large number of people have no empathy whatsoever and don't understand that something that doesn't work for them might actually work for someone else. Please discontinue the 6 Plus, recall the sold phones and accept that this experiment has failed. Your customers were not ready for it. Let's go back to all of us having essentially the same phone, so we can go back to conversion attempts by Android's Witnesses again. They were not half as annoying as that "Your 6 Plus sucks, admit it! The power of Jobs compels you!" nonsense.

This happened with the retina mini vs iPad Air also. It went away and now people choose the model that works best for them. I suspect this will happen here as well.

I'm glad Apple came out with the 6+ .
I have big hands and now I finally have a I-Phone that easier for me to use.

At the end of the day, the people who bought the 6+ wanted the bigger screen. The people who bought the 6 wanted a screen which was large yet easy to use with one hand.

Now after stating the above, I can guarantee 2 in 10 will interpret that as;

People who bought the 6 couldn't afford the 6+.

:rolleyes:

It seems more like 9 in 10 interpret it that way. It is funny, when a new laptop comes out, you don't see those discussions on the laptop sub forums. Like I don't remember people saying 'those that got the 13" couldn't afford the 15"' and the price difference between the two can be well over a thousand dollars, not a measly $100.

Why would apple care about this? They got people going crazy after their two new phones. They actually make more money on the 6 plus. There is nothing wrong with apple. it's the people.

So for many years...the power of Jobs compels you!" nonsense.

Judging from the comments, many didn't read your OP or are too hyped up on Apple juice to detect sarcasm, but I agree with your supposition that having 2 models has exacerbated MR members' desires to justify their own self-conscious decisions by berating all others who made different decisions.

Someone saw my iPhone 6 Plus yesterday and said it was trying too hard to be like the Galaxy Note. Even worse, one of my Facebook friends said the same thing. Now I'm not sure what to do. I'm not even sure that I'll go out in public for a couple days. What should I do guys? Maybe I'll start a thread about it

The big difference here is that both phones are made by Apple so whichever one you purchase, Apple still benefits.

Several times in past earnings call, Steve Jobs and Tim Cook mentioned that they'd rather have iPad cannibalizing sale of OSX because both are Apple's products.

Point is, iPhone 6 is the best smartphone in the market and iPhone 6 Plus is the best large screen smartphone in the market. Who cares about people posting on Internet Forum trying to justify their purchase or voicing their opinions. They are entitled to do so and you should purchase whichever phones that fits your need.

I hope you are being sarcastic. iPhone 6 Plus is the best large screen smartphone in the market and who gives a **** about your Facebook friends. Buy the product that fits your need, not others.

No I'm being serious. I already called into work for the whole week just to avoid any negative comments about my phone. I'm even considering looking for a new job and relocating.

6 owners are trolling the 6+ owners to justify in their own heads why they chose the 6. 6+ owners are doing the same thing. It will slow down but right now everyone is freaking out because they are within their return window but debating on whether or not they made the right choice.

This forum is going to skew toward 6+ because most of us are nerdier or are developers, etc. For most casual Apple users, the 6 is fine as it is a phone first and foremost and people can check their email on it.

There are also some who got the 6 because they wanted a release day phone and the 6+ isn't available. Hence there is some faux debate, trolling, defending their own purchase etc.

Clearly price isn't an issue and maybe some folks will indeed switch. To me both looked great but after handling the 6+ as much as I wanted to justify and overweight the pros of the phone, I don't watch videos or play games on my phone so it was tough to sacrifice comfort for the big bad screen. If it were not as tall, I would have bought it. I would take more girth over length.

The 6+ Accessibility model will be a success. So much so that it will quickly be replaced by the 6+S in a mid-year release and a discontinuation of the 6+ Accessibility model.

It truly is the reincarnation of the iPad 3. Real-world beta ware, soon to be replaced.

Sounds like you're talking about yourself convincing others to hate the plus. Seriously both are great phones I would be happy with either one. It's just a phone, it's not going to make anyone including you happy. Buy what you want and leave others alone.

Let me guess, you did not read my post, but only the subject.

I did and what his reply is still relevant.

I didn't read all the other replies so this may have been noted already but......

You can't use an online forum with early adopting tech consumers as a barometer of offline life. In reality, most people aren't dealing with the situations you noted, so from a broad perspective, there was no "mess up".

Why blame Apple for the personality defects of people?

This doesn't make any sense. It's Apple's fault that people are stupid and argue over phone sizes ? And what exactly is wrong with people have a choice ?! Oh -_-

"So for many years, iPhone users have had to deal with proselytisation attempts from Android fans, who felt that it was absolutely necessary to tell none-Android-users that their choice of phone was completely wrong. "

I stopped reading here. Everything about this generalization is off. EVERY group does this, including iPhone users. Why you felt the need to preface with this statement is beyond me.

All this just to say that apple should give its customer's choice. Are we a community of idiots who make impulse buys and can't accept that? If you need someone else's thumbs up, who you don't know, then you have issues.

You know why Apple is successful? Because they are able to adapt to change. If they stuck to the old 3.5" mantra, their sales would slump. Just be glad that when they roll out new hardware, they do it right. Services on the other hand.....

Maps, iTunes Radio, iCloud, keynote, the list goes on.

Cannot believe how many people completely missed OP's inference(s)...

Geez people - quit taking everything so literally, and actually read what was said, then ponder for a few seconds, and acknowledge the tongue firmly in cheek...

A = {What was written}
B = {Heads of the majority of comments}
A/B ["A" over "B"]

Guess this is what is bound to happen on an International/Cosmopolitan forum, where different culture's miss each other...

FWIW OP - I enjoyed your piece, and agree. It's beyond ridiculous.
Apple should just yank everything, and take us all back to the original iPhone. Then we will all be happy. :cool:

OP You are too articulate and well-written for these forums. Take your posts elsewhere, like to the onion.

Apple messed it up big time for us with the 6 Plus

I personally don't feel that there was a mistake made here. It adds a second level of choice to mobile Apple users ---

There are 2 sizes of iPad
There are 2 sizes of MBA
There are 2 sizes of MBP (and 2 screen resolutions, too)

Why shouldn't there be more than one size of current generation iPhone?

Yes, the 6+ isn't for everyone. Yes, it will be too big for some people. But for others, it will be that hybrid device ("phablet") that fits their needs and wants perfectly.

It's a matter of choice, and I for one appreciate Apple allowing people to make that choice.

Edit: now, all of this said - yes, there will always be those vocal people who think that someone made the wrong choice because it wasn't the choice they themselves would have made, but that's another can of worms. If anyone tells me I made a stupid choice, they can stick it in their ear ;)
