AppleCare

I got by AppleCare today that if you submitted on the 25th it would take 72 hours or less to receive your email.

If after 72 hours and you haven't received your email call them back. :)

I guess its just being patient, were getting it for free after all

This is why I'm waiting until it comes pre-installed to buy my Macbook Air.

What a mess. For shame Tim.

So you're saying you could have bought an Air last month but you are waiting because you "knew" this up-to-date program would screw some people for a day or two to upgrade to 10.8 and to risk not being one of the unlucky few you decided to deprive yourself 2 months use of your new Air?

Oooo-kay.

When I read "but people just like to complain i guess..." I experience that statement as a complaint. In fact it reminds my of an irritating aunt who complains a lot.

There are a lot of folks on this thread who are disappointed by Apple setting an expectation that has not been met (yet). Many are excited to run ML and some team at Apple has dropped the ball. So Apple set an expectation and it didn't come true in the way that many wanted. End of the world? No. Disappointment? Yes.

I can understand being dissapointed a little bit, but from reading a lot of these posts, people are treating it as the end of the world, so much that they would rather pay for it and then demand a refund when this gets worked out.

So what if you cant run ML on the day it was released? I dont know that Apple ever set that expectation exactly with this program, merely that the upgrade would be free.

Again, people should just be happy that Apple is even offering a free upgrade, and that ML is only $20, and that the Operating System that came with their computer for free (Lion) is awesome enough to hold you over until ML is released and available for you to download for free.

I guess I was not aware of these programs (If this is the case with Adobe CS, I got screwed into paying for an update by a phone rep then).

But I was referring to Hardware companies, does Dell offer an upgrade to the OS in these cases? Ive never heard of such a program, and I doubt microsoft would take care of this for Dell.

Still my main point is that people are being way to impatient over this issue.

It's a little different when you have a 3rd party making your hardware, but in term - yes, Dell, HP, Lenovo, all of them allow you to update to Windows 8 if you purchased your computer after June 1st. Regarding Adobe, that's how I got CS6 for free after purchasing a discounted CS5.5 after CS6 was announced. You might be able to try it next year too (even though CS upgrades are much much cheaper then full vers)

well since theyre HUMANS and susceptible to mistakes, this isnt unexpected.

so you never screw up at work, or have something go unexpectedly? what do you do?

AMEN to that. Good grief, I can't believe some of the comments here. No wonder the divorce rate in this country is so high -- some people have no tolerance for anything or anyone. You all spoon fed or something?

"Mommie, my code isn't working again!! And its been over 24 hours!!!! Waaaaah!!!!!!" (runs off to room, crying)

:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:

FWIW, I have two new Macs, on first one -- first code used, second code working (downloading 10.8 now)
Second Mac, different email and mailing address/phone, retail purchase on July 24, haven't heard a peep about that code even though I sent a follow-up email with support yesterday. Been out of town today. I'll have 10.8 in 30 minutes but probably won't even install for another week or so. Its an operating system and not that big a deal.

UPDATE: This is bizarre. I have my OS X files stored on another SATA drive in my Mac Pro. I'm downloading the MAS 10.8, but went into my software drive to check the GM release which I am currently running. It shows that Apple is downloading OVER that saved file,

That's not so bizarre when you know how the system works. OS X looks for an already installed bundle with the identifiers of the downloading app, and overwrites the first matching bundle it sees. If you have it in several spots on one volume you get to play detective. Whee. When packaging your own programs for the store in Xcode you also have to remember to remove all compiled apps with the same identifier, or you don't know which version will run when you test the package, and you won't know where the installation ends up despite the package being forced to /Applications/ as an install path!

My code final was sent and at 7:30pm EST, order at 9:30am yesterday

Got my code and it was excepted by app store and started my download of Mountain Lion. Yea! :) Good Luck everyone waiting it is starting to flow again!!!

That's a headache. This is the first time since developing on OS X that a release has searched through my 6+ drives to find the installer (which I manually moved from the Applications folder to my Software volume). After downloading the DP/GM release, I would copy it to another location as after it is installed from the Applications folder it is removed. I assumed [wrongly] that after every DP/GM install since Lion (as OS X DP's are completely different from previous OS X variants), the system would believe the install file to be removed. Now the MAS looks for any installed app's for verification/updating/etc. and keeps this data on the main drive for future reference. This process must be done during OS X installation? This could pose an issue if I have the OS X installer on two differing volumes, although I'm certain OS X knows this and will install on the correct volume based on the installer in the /Applications path. Interesting that it found the release I had and downloaded it into two different locations simultaneously. I could absolutely see an issue in which the same app on different volumes could be erroneously updated/installed, although one could code the installer to update all versions of a particular app on attached drives (which could also lead to other issues).

Very interesting...

I got 5 different emails from Apple; tried the last one and it worked. How can I find out how fast it is downloading? All I have is a ML icon with an unmoving status bar!

Switch to the purchases tab to see the download progress.

Second try and I finally received a redeem code that is for Mountain Lion User. Apple CRS is treating me like I have already downloaded it under a different name, all this for $19.99. Pathetic on :apple: part.

Solution 1: Either include a redeem code or gift card in every Mac shipping, until ML is pre-installed.

Solution 2: Register before launch of ML.

Solution 3: This entire archaic procedure should have never gotten approval to begin with. What are they thinking.

This has wasted so much of my time and I have lost the initial excitement that I had for a product release. Some will call me shallow, however I enjoy everything in my life, this was one of them that has just left a sour taste in my mouth regarding :apple: ability to maintain MAS.

I am officially turned-off by MAS.

It's 9:30 here, just got home from the mall. Got some new codes from Apple. They work!

Victory is mine!

man, you beat me to it with the face palm...

I keep checking my email with the same frequency that I did (for over a week) when I ordered the Retina MBP. I need to forget about ML for 24 hours and find something else to occupy my time.

Texas
sent claim over Wednesday 9am CST.

Too bad 24 hours won't be enough time... Argh!!!

I'm waiting too, I submitted the request yesterday and am not sure if it went through since I never received a confirmation email.
I'm not sure if I should even install it since I use Citrix Receiver 11.5.0 for work and am not sure if it will work with Mountain Lion since their website states that it is covered, but some people are having problems using it on Mountain Lion... oh well. In the end this will probably work out for the best.

Just received an email from Apple letting me know they just released their fancy new OS entitled Mountain Lion.

MBR - 36 hours and counting.

Totally, this. I submitted yesterday and a few hours later was greeted with the lovely announcement that Mountain Lion is here! Not for those most excited about macs, the people who just bought a shiny new one!

I don't care if snow leopard took even longer because they used to mail it, the post office used to use horses. This is a computer company with lots of nice nifty computers and it's behaving like these claims are coming in via telegraph and being reviewed by one kid in a sweat-shop with severe attention deficit disorder. They had an inkling they'd sell more than a few computers in June/July, then had real numbers coming in this whole time, numbers of customers most excited about apple products because they just bought a shiny new one. This should have been automated or if that's not secure enough the orders should have been taken/reviewed and processed starting 6/11/12 to get rid of a backlog, then the emails kicked out either at the time or with a delay until release, end of story. People are pissed because they want to get it done with and use it instead of sitting around waiting for a ding that never comes, debating whether or not they care about 20 bucks to get this done with. That's not how I wanted to spend last night/tonight/and what looks like may be this weekend.
