Okay, i know there have been a lot of "This would never happen if Steve we're here, but i thought i just throw this out there.

MobileMe take two

Steve- What is the Up to Date program supposed to do?
Employee- Give our consumers the newest OS if they bought their Mac after our announcement?
Steve- SO WHY THE **** DOES IT NOT DO THAT!

In all seriousness, i will be applying for ML this Saturday. As soon as i remember the purchase date! Hopefully all problems are resolved.

Totally, this. I submitted yesterday and a few hours later was greeted with the lovely announcement that Mountain Lion is here! Not for those most excited about macs, the people who just bought a shiny new one!

I don't care if snow leopard took even longer because they used to mail it, the post office used to use horses. This is a computer company with lots of nice nifty computers and it's behaving like these claims are coming in via telegraph and being reviewed by one kid in a sweat-shop with severe attention deficit disorder. They had an inkling they'd sell more than a few computers in June/July, then had real numbers coming in this whole time, numbers of customers most excited about apple products because they just bought a shiny new one. This should have been automated or if that's not secure enough the orders should have been taken/reviewed and processed starting 6/11/12 to get rid of a backlog, then the emails kicked out either at the time or with a delay until release, end of story. People are pissed because they want to get it done with and use it instead of sitting around waiting for a ding that never comes, debating whether or not they care about 20 bucks to get this done with. That's not how I wanted to spend last night/tonight/and what looks like may be this weekend.

Amen brother!

Just called AppleCare Greece and United States an hour ago, and the US AppleCare support stated that iTunes will not be giving credits for those who purchase ML before they get their code.:(

same stuff happen to me - now I`m a proud owner of MBP with OSXServer, and , lastly, Mountain Lion :)

jeez, Apple, you made my day...

still waiting, submitted claim Wednesday 11:00 AM

i have only gotten the ML promotion email and thats it.

talked with 2 reps and the first one resent me the email and the other one said the first rep was stupid for doing it because that made the process take longer for me.

I never thought I'd see the day when Apple would insult each other...

I guess I'll just go clubbing and party on the weekend (not really) and totally forget about this silly nightmare. Then wake up monday morning and hopefully I'll have the codes and have a lovely day at work waiting for it to download on my awesome (cough) 1.5mb/s download speed. Woohoo for the new OSX....

update: received code this morning and started the 8 hour long download. woohoo...

Sooooo the money they're making from the people who bought ML is now going out the window because now all these people have free versions of OS X Server. Serves apple right!

My thoughts exactly, when things finally get sorted out, there'll be lots of complimentary copies of ML server laying around.

Still waiting

Such a shambles. Still waiting here for any kind of code (working or not!). No excuses for such a poor experience. Why didn't they just take the cost of Mountain Lion off the cost of machines purchased after June 11 and saved the hassle... very disappointed.

Same, you'd think this was an automated and instant process, but meh...

yes, as others have noted, why on earth is this free upgrade not simply automated via the serial number and then automatic FREE distribution via iTunes. I expect seamless, this is far worse than with windows, honestly I expect better from Apple, way better...

And what an utterly stupid process anyway, even that some people have had to scan sales receipts (it initially asked me also, but then I repeated and copy/pasted from the info on my mac pro and then it seems happy, I swear I had the thing correct anyway...).

I also have called support here in Switzerland and was told it can take up to 72 hours, 40 and counting...

Not the best experience with my first mac..

Well I'm glad Bluethree tip (try to buy and see if it says you already bought it) worked for me yesterday because it's been more that 48h for me and I have absolutely no news from Apple ...

That means that someone somewhere approved my redeem code but that code has never been sent. This is ridiculous.

According to me, Apple needs to rethink their up-to-date strategy. Why require a redemption code at all? Software update and the App Store already know what Mac you have. Just push the new OS to eligible machines.

Got it! Doesn't Work :(

My code was finally sent. It doesn't work.

Why, if the system is broken, are they still sending bunk codes?

What really ought to have happened is Mountain Lion as standard out-of-the-box on all 2012 refreshes. The absolute straightforward and cogent way of averting a repeat performance that some of us have had the pleasure to contend with for the last 2 days.

What password are you referring too? The only password needed to redeem a code is your Apple ID's password, which only you are supposed to know.

Shame on YOU Apple!

50hrs and not a single:

We've received your request, and we are processing it. It may take FOR EVER to see that your APPLE ID indeed registered this new Macbook Air a month ago.

Nahhhh, Steve, we miss you!

Btw, I bought my Mac over B&H Photo Video... For the ones on my boat, where did you buy it?

Finally Got Mine

What an adventure....

I got the original "code has already been used" code, then the OSX Server code...thank you Apple for the free software. :)

And shortly after the OSX Server code, I was finally sent a code that allowed me to download Mountain Lion. Woohoo! :)

Frustrating it was, but only because I was chomping at the bit. All in all, they had some unexpected technical difficulty, worked through it and lived up to their promise.

Not much more you can expect a company to do, when faced with such a miscue. Kudos to :apple:Apple for staying on top of it.

Loving me some Mountain Lion right now...Nice update!
