total truth man. And really, all I wanted out of this was the ability to get a notification when a artist I liked released a new album. Not sure if that was related to connect or not, but this is one of the examples where apple doesn't know what people want. but its whatever. Glad they experiment with stuff. Also glad they shut it down when its clearly not working

That would be a great feature: notifications over new albums and singles of artists in your library.

I think you’re one of the few there. I don’t think most people care about album art.

I don’t like Spotify. It doesn’t work with Siri in my car and doesn’t have an Apple Watch app. Also...Apple music does work on every device. You realize they even have an android app right? Apple Music is a major success by any measure, so I don’t know what you’re talking about. And they’re doing better than ever with Tim in the lead. Most people won’t admit this but the company flourished after Steve Jobs died.

Umm...no. That’s here to stay. A lot of people listen to beats radio.
[doublepost=1544790804][/doublepost]
And yet they’re rich and you’re not. Funny how that works. I think most of their choices are working out just fine. The reason people don’t consider alternatives is because the only alternative is Android, and Android makes me puke. There is no true alternative to iOS.

iCloud? You know, the most important one. Yeah I’m sure they built all those data centers because their services are all a failure.

Only their social media attempts fail, they’re fine with everything else.

And nobody is coerced into using iMessage. You can turn it off and just SMS or download WhatsApp or whatever other crap apps Android people have to use because google failed a million times over to make a proper messaging app. People use iMessage because it’s superior. Hell, many people stick to iOS BECAUSE of iMessage.

Stagnating companies aren’t worth nearly a trillion dollars. In the time it took you to write this basic bitch post in your mother’s basement, Apple made another few million dollars. Tim Cook has made insane amounts of money for Apple, good thing he’s CEO and not you. “Literally”.
In my mother’s basement LOL
I’ve been living by myself since the age of 12!
I live in NYC in my own apt that I pay for with my hard earned money. I can afford to buy every new Apple product, which I used to for a very long time. However, there comes time when you realize that these products are not worth the asking price! Apple has been going this way for the past couple of years: extremely overpriced products. Your trillion dollar comment is just a bubble, just like Apple itself. I have bad news for you: Apple is no longer a trillion dollar company. Go check your facts first.
If they don’t change course, they will never get that trillion dollar company status back either.

I don't understand how a company that makes such advanced software or hardware fail to make simpler stuff like a social network or even attempt at it thinking its going to work.

The same goes to Microsoft that could not compete with the iPod... Zune was a joke! Is this really the same people behind the OS that is operating 80% of the world's computers?

I'd like to try and see Apple tackle social network, where everyone else has failed to control. That should be interesting, but Apple knows better than that, probably because they know it can't be done, and still be "private."

Perhaps Bit-coin? .....can't see Apple doing that either.

Apple burned too many bridges in the past for a social network to take off. Social networks are generally viewed as a freebie service and Apple has a terrible track record with that kind of thing going all the way back to their iTools days and continuing through .Mac and MobileMe and god knows what other things I can't remember at this point. It just seems to be a market segment that they cannot get their heads around. Even today, I use the free iCloud backup they offer for my phone but fully expect that they will yank the rug out from under that at any point and start asking for payment. Apple wants to jump on the social network bandwagon but they don't want to put too much effort into it for fear of it costing them money. I suspect that kind of philosophy doesn't mesh with what it takes to run a social network.

No one wants a social network for music. No one even wants to stay in music app while they’re listening for that matter. They want to hit play, listen in the background, and do their daily tasks. That’s why both services failed, they didn’t realize that.

I do. And many others do. That's why last.fm was so successful back in the day. I met a lot of really cool people -- and discovered some great music -- through shared music interests.

The problem with Connect is that Apple treated it like Ping 2.0: a top-down, hand of god style of one-way communication really only created to serve artist marketing interests. The fact that it was wedged into iTunes with some garbage web views was the killing blow. The main reason it failed was that it wasn't a true social network in terms of finding other people to connect with. That's what Apple failed to understand with Ping, and not learning their lesson, they made the same mistake again with Connect. Getting artist info is important, but it has to be just one piece of the pie for a music social network to be successful.

Apples services are doomed.
Really nobody who is already caged within Apples hardware ecosystem wants to add another chain. Why Apple Music, when there are other services like Spotify that work on every device and give you the freedom of choice. Who wants an Apple clean room video streaming service with violence and sex banned - when there is Netflix and Netflix also has a channel for childs where those content is banned.

Once I've chosen Apple because it "just works" - but those days are over and I guess they'll never come back as long as Tim Cook has the lead.
Why would I want spotify? I can't think of one reason. I have only one smart device...an echo dot. And I am under impressed with that. That Alexa supports AM is kudos to Apple.

As far as who wants apple clean room video? The same people who want Netflix clean room video. People said apple pay would fail and now it's anything but. I wouldn't bet against apple video so fast.

Somehow it's difficult to take your predictions seriously. Apple runs my Watch, my Phone, my TV, my Computer, my Music Library...and the same applies to millions throughout the world. They're not going anywhere and they put out incredible products every year. Don't like it? Switch to another brand you feel is "innovative".

I really hope they don't just drop the list of artists I followed. I'd like that used for a simple feed of latest releases from the artists I have followed. Which is how I wished Connect worked from day 1...

I still see this is a move in the right direction. They are putting a bit more control into the hands of the artist first. Once this settles in, I can see them opening things more in a social way. This is what we got to update and move over too...View attachment 810753

I think I have nailed the problem with music discovery on Apple music. It's all about artist discovery first, then you discover the music. If it was music discovery first, then you can discover the artist. It is arse backwards.

Spotify has it right.

I like genre of music, finding an artist is a consequence of liking a genera. Starting with an artist is actually the end point, not a starting point.
