Smart move. I forgot that even existed and I listen to Apple Music throughout the day every single weekday.

I don’t care about what anyone else is doing in music and don’t want to share mine.

Apple today announced that its Apple Music Connect social platform for artists is in the process of shutting down, suffering the same fate as Ping, the company's previous social network for music removed from iTunes in October 2012.

In a letter shared with artists, Apple said artists will no longer be able to post to Connect as of today, with the feature now removed from artist pages and the "For You" tab in Apple Music. Apple says all previously uploaded Connect content will remain searchable in Apple Music until May 24, 2019:Connect had its own tab in Apple Music when the app first launched in 2015, but its presence was later reduced to a section in the "For You" tab.

This whole thing is emblematic of ‘new age’ design where every service and product has to have some shoehorned social media integration or gamification concept and no one every uses any of it

As we mourn the loss of Connect, let us remember the good times Connect brought us. <place memories here>
Yes, the loss of Connect is a cloud in our lives. But every cloud has a silver lining and the silver lining in this cloud is H.E.R. is featured on NPR's Tiny Desk.:)

RiP Connect. We barely knew thee.

I had always expected them to buy or partner with last.fm at some point. But I guess that isn't Apple's style. At this point, last.fm's moment may have passed as well.

I don’t think they need Last.fm to implement it.

I’ve often seen the future of music monetization as “near free” all you can eat streaming + live music. I don’t mind the idea that musicians should work a little for their money. Live performances and merchandise is where the real money can be, not selling copies of digital files.

Apple Music should make live performances a prominent part of the app. If artists that you’re following add a performance near you, you’d be notified and could purchase a ticket.

Ticket sales are such a huge market that is currently very broken and Apple can absolutely eat Ticketmaster’s lunch and own the field.

Maybe now they can be brave and add LDAC support to Bluetooth in iOS so my iPhone can play higher quality audio over Bluetooth.

But every time I throw a pair of dice I get a different result?

Pong will replace it.
That’s Atari’s social network.

When Apple bought BEATs I considered it a VERY poor move. Lots of hype but no original thinking and so-so products. They were supposed to make Apple the center of the musical universe. Uh yea...right.
Been mostly money down the drain. And some of those BEATs guys are still there trying to figure out how to justify their high salaries.
At this point I'll quote the King of Pop.... BEAT IT!!!
Why not quote the BEATleS?

Yup, not sure why they never just chose this route. Makes too much sense. I’d also like notifications around shows or new albums, but we get none of that. Easy little ways they could make the platform better.
Actually we are supposed to but the notifications are so damn random it rarely works for me. I don’t get how hard it would be to have an entire section showing me new songs or albums by EVERY artist I follow or have in my library. But Apple bragged about the album notifications last year and it rarely works for me.

Honestly I kind of think for having all this power in a device ....smart phones aren’t so smart many times.

Well on the bright side, next time I am having a bad day I will stop and remember even gigantic corporations worth billions make bad decisions & fail majorly sometimes.

Hell as long as I do not make a mistake twice, no matter how bad it is I am still ahead of Apple. Lol
Sad but true. Wish apple took more risks like they used to. And no I don’t mean removing headphone jacks. Hell even AirPods are so damn finicky sometimes on which device to connect to. I still love them but you’d think that they’d be smart enough to know if I’m on a phone call...DISREGARD EVERY OTHER DEVICE AND CONNECT TO THE PHONE AUTOMATICALLY. usually have to keep digging through and manually connect them 3 or 4 times to work if they were previously connected to an iPad.

They really need to dump iTunes too. That is one big bloated mess. Apple should've just build a standalone app for Apple Music, and for Music only. I don't need iPhone driver or tons of features I don't need. Make it lightweight, fast and simple.

This is something I absolutely don’t understand! What’s so hard about adding a feature like the one on Spotify where you can invite others to collaborate on a playlist?! That’s basically all I need in terms of social features in a music app. And I could imagine many would agree..
Hey Apple, why do you struggle so much with everything social..?

Apple is great at hardware, but their apps and services are horrible.

This was the most pointless feature. Used it like twice and found very little value in it. Thankfully this will help clean up iTunes and the Music app.

As an artist in the store, this is LONG TIME coming for us. We can FINALLY control simple things, like changing the artist picture when a band is searched for. Ever notice how SOME of the artists in your list have an image and others don't? Only select labels had the privilege to ask Apple to add the photos for them. Now, we're supposed to have control over that. It's small and seems silly to most, for us, it's needed.

There are things Apple is good at and things Apple is terrible at, and also things Apple should not even attempt to try. Social apps/features fall on the second or last for Apple.

No one wants a social network for music. No one even wants to stay in music app while they’re listening for that matter. They want to hit play, listen in the background, and do their daily tasks. That’s why both services failed, they didn’t realize that.
Agreed. Although I think sharing with friends and family is cool. We need that still. Anything that fosters discovery. I don't need another Facebook.

In 4 years I will revisit this comment and Apple will undoubtedly have a new social music network.

See you in 2022.

This is quite likely. The drunken marketing at Apple these days is very strong. She always defeats sober thinking with adventurous, unworldly ideas. Costs money and wastes resources.

Beats live radio is next.
You're wrong. Just listen in!

Focus on better playlist curation and add user created playlists.
I don’t understand why they don’t take all the best features of other streaming services and combine them into Apple Music. I’d switch back in a heartbeat. Their playlist and music curation completely sucks compared to Spotify. :/

I absolutely agree. The best Music interface was in iOS 6, the current music interface (as well as the books app interface) is too much focused on selling things. I want to enjoy my music, read my books and not browse for a shopping experience.
