What irritates me is that I _Trusted Apple_ bought some iBooks...
Only to have them disappear, much to my disbelief just one week after the purchase.
When speaking to Apple I learned it was all MY FAULT! They were right!
I failed to read the terms of service close enough. They have the right to pull content at their discretion.
That is at the copyright holders discretion. If you have it on your device you are not affected. All my titles download to my computer and I have never lost one. Once the government wrongly sued them their contracts were upended and some titles were no longer cost effective and discontinued or competitive because they are not in the business of loosing money like Amazon. Any books falling out of contract would likely be removed and no longer available for re-download.

And that's the joke. This is why I refuse to buy anything that requires iBook or whatever the hell it's now called.
In case you haven't noticed, the whole iBooks thing is kind of up in the air because Apple got sued and has the government breathing down their necks. It's not as if they got everyone to signup and then pulled the plug on purpose.

It's not really a double standard since I cannot download this app from Apple's app store. But it is assuming Android users are used to beta quality software which is funny because it's true.
Hmm, well maybe you're right in that regard, still funny though.

Well, there are other double standards we could call Apple out on.

And let's not forget, by now Apple users are very used to beta quality software, straight from Cupertino, as well, and it doesn't stop at the Apple Seed Program.

So Eddy Cue wants us to be able to listen to music no matter where we are and what product we use.

Can I read my iBooks on a Kindle or non-Apple product? No, because they have DRM.

Hypocrisy, thy name is Eddy Cue.

Amazon doesn't allow anyone else to sell or publish books on a Kindle, so I'm not sure what your point is? Amazon's Kindle platform is completely closed and locked down, much more so than iOS (on which you can read Kindle books).

Also, publishers insist that iBooks have DRM, not Apple. Books also have DRM on Kindle. So again, not sure what your point is.

I wouldn't totally rule out iBooks for Android in the future, but Apple probably doesn't make enough money from books for it to be worth the effort and development. They're doing this because they think they can make money, not as an act of generosity to Android users. (Same reason why Amazon makes a Kindle app for iOS - it will help them sell more books).

just gave it a try, not going to subscribe to test but had a play not bad for a beta app, layout could do with some refining and plenty of buffering, no radio just the spinner,

I can't read kindle books in whatever app I want either. I wonder if it's to actually protect the owners of the ip.

Yes and no. The EPUB standard does not specify a DRM scheme, which means that device manufacturers are free to choose it. There are some schemes that work across platforms, like Adobe's (used by Google and many other ebook sellers and devices like Sony's ereaders, Kobo and Nook), but Apple uses its own proprietary FairPlay DRM. Amazon doesn't use EPUB at all but it's own proprietary formats (particularly Mobipocket). If protecting the IP was the main concern, Apple and Amazon could have adopted Adobe's DRM scheme as well or advocate/develop an open alternative to supplement the EPUB standard, which they didn't. This is mostly about platform building and walled gardens and only incidentally about protecting IP.

Do you mean that you can get Kindle Apps for iOS or you've somehow managed to read Kindle books on iBooks?

And while they openly call this a beta of course, always remember this double standard:

They don't allow beta software in their own App Store. (the publicly visible "store front" that is, save for betas via invitation and profiles)

So? Just because Apple wants to keep their house tidy, and Google could give two **** doesn't mean Apple is exercising double standards. As long as they're following the Google Play store rules. Because they did release it in the Google Play store, after all...

Kindle App I would guess..... at least it's available for every platform. Android, Windows, OSX, IOS etc.
This is the main reason I don't buy iBooks. All Apple would need to do is provide Apps so people can read on the device they want to use.

That's a good question. I can load music on my Note 5, play it with any number of players and create unique corresponding playlists without duplicating the music. Wonder how/if AM will allow and vice versa?

When are we getting apple music for Apple TV 3?

Right after Chromecast and Roku get it.

Technically "whatever platform". I have kindle just about everywhere. Where do I have iBooks? iDevices.

It's like you don't know that movies, TV shows and books you buy from the iTunes store cannot be used on anything but Apple devices.
You absolutely can. You can download it from iTunes on your PC or Mac and drag it to your Android phone through USB (after digging through the file system).
Purchases are DRM free, you can absolutely drag it to your phone.

You're late with that reply, I already got feedback on that snafu.

No they aren't. Only the music is.

It's like you don't know that the media producers and publishers of those movies, tv shows and books require that DRM. Just like they do on every other platform.
Exactly, hence time for new laws, because apparently this isn't gonna fix itself unlike with music for whatever reason.
"But wait, that will just help piracy"
Yes really? torrents, private ftps, usenet, etc... it's all still alive and well and filled with whatever I want to watch, listen to, play or otherwise consume next.
Oh and I get the added benefit of getting an actually better product:
torrented movie: put it on my iPhone, iPad, iMac OR any device not blessed by the divine Gods in Cupertino and Hollywood & Co.
Rip BluRays, music CDs, DVDs, record from TV, ...: Do whatever you want with it, just the same as above.
iTunes purchases: DRM → I get no say.
