Got lossless music after a restart. But then it was gone again. To remove previously downloaded music (60GB), I decided to disable iCloud music, restart, and enable it again. After completing the process, I realized that the lossless option is gone from the settings. Now I’m trying to redownload the library, and restart again hoping the lossless settings come back.

here’s the weird part. Before the lossless settings disappeared, I managed to switch the hi-res option on. Now some of the albums are downloading in hi-res (like 1.2GB for a 60-minutes album) even though lossless has disappeared from the settings.

I guess I still have lossless, but it’s just buggy.

I've restarted like 5 times, turned on/off all toggles but still nothing.

With Dolby Atmos toggled on supposed to make the song quieter? Versus with it off being louder?
Yes,

on Apple's support article https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT212182 scroll down to FAQ and they talk about Dolby Atmos being quieter than Stereo.

It's actually a good sign of increased dynamic range (better quietness and loudness moments) and mixing quality.

Too bad you can only either streaming Atmos track or download them and listening as lossless but you can’t have both

I just listened to some of the updated songs (Ariana Grande, The Weeknd) in spatial audio (after removing the old downloads) and they sound like garbage! It was like 1 or more of the music channels were missing.

I changed the equaliser from Flat to Off and now it sounds better... yeah it's weird but probably good, haven't made up my mind yet.
Blinding Lights sounds different but I swear that must be redlining like crazy. There's a ton of depth but it sounds overdone and certain sounds are mastered way too loud. Can't Feel My Face is much better. The breathing and secondary vocals are excellent and really highlights the point of Atmos. The Marvin Gaye guide with Zayne is another excellent example.

I can't hear a difference between spatial on and off honestly
Nor can I. I find it indistinguishable with Music so far, and I'm wondering if it's a glitch that will resolve itself hopefully. If not, consider me underwhelmed.

Edit: Actually, tried a few different tracks, enabling/disabling. I can hear the difference, but it just sounds like a different EQ setting, no increase in sound stage like I'd hoped (which I do find quite remarkable on supported video).

It's not that I'm an old curmudgeon either. I absolutely can hear the difference on TV+, Disney+ etc, to the point where I was delighted to hear tvOS will support it eventually.

I understand that Atmos is meant to be quieter but Coldplay’s new single is wayyyyy quieter and sounds worse in Atmos.

ZHU’s new album sounds good though.

Same here with a DAC attached to my M1 Mini. This will only work if they add an output selection (exclusive mode) to the MacOS Music app.

We need to ask Apple. We can't assume they read these forums.

Amazon Music HD has supported 24/192 FLAC but their desktop apps suffer this same issue for years - you need to manually change sample rates to avoid resampling. So crap.

I don't understand how a small company like Tidal can have this figured out and working properly but the biggest software companies on earth like Amazon and Apple so far haven't.

I’m not sure if I like it or not. Some songs sound cool but I just don’t like the echo vocals. Just doesn’t seem right like adding unnecessary extra effects to a song. Sounds like a stadium for no reason.

I guess there's no chance of this on Windows in the foreseeable future what with the smoulder ruin that is iTunes there. Apple haven't updated it in over 6 months now, and realistically is hasn't improved pretty much ever. It's quite possibly the worst piece of Windows software from a large developer ever made.

Is there a good way I can actually hear / notice this new spatial audio? I have AirPods Pro and iOS 14.6. In the Apple Music app I’m indeed seeing Dolby Atmos on some albums, but no idea what to listen for exactly…
Go to the top pop playlist and you will find heaps

Can't say I'm a fan. It sounds like bad remastering of the original tracks or using an EQ setting . I wish it worked more like spatial audio for movies where the audio moved with you as your head position changed. I want to hear what the artist recorded - how they wanted it to sound, not with some artificial effect applied.
