I've enjoyed the Dolby Atmos stuff that I've listened to so far. I've only got the second-gen AirPods so I don't know if I would get more of a spatial effect with the Pro AirPods or the Max AirPods but it's all pretty cool really.
Even if A Day in the Life isn't in Atmos for some reason and the rest of the album is.

Will I have to redownload my entire library to make them Atmos/lossless or is it automatic?

I have it both on my ATV 4K & iPhone 12 pro Max.
its so good, game changing.
Will new buy my first ever DAC to connect my PC to my denon X6700 & a pair of AirPods pro.
RIP to amazon music HD,Tidal & Spotify
Amazon & Tidal are 10% lostless, Apple Music is 90% lostless.
cant wait to try it on my iPad Pro.
I repeat, game changing.

Add me to the list of those who are underwhelmed.

Listening using my Airpod Max’s, the best I can say about it is that songs sound different. Some sound just plain ‘odd’.

I’ve not listened to any where I prefer the spatial version, but lots where I definitely prefer the normal stereo one. I’m almost certainly going to be leaving it turned off for music.

Hmm, weirdly Dolby Atmos seems to turn off randomly (between songs) for me, even with all settings enabled. I play one song with it enabled, and then the next song it's off for some reason. And I'm talking about playing music from Apple's own Made for Spatial Audio playlist. When I quit the Music app and restart and try the exact same song again, it works again... weird.

It’s better now but unfortunately songs are so quiet comparing to audio without Dolby Atmos.

Not sure that Atmos adds better experience. Listening to the Beatles - Here Comes the Sun remix in Atmos on Airpods Pro. The most noticeable effect seems to be pulling the vocals away from the center-of-your-brain. Non-Atmos (i.e. stereo) still gives similar instrument separation and soundstage, but has better oomph and overall punchiness.

Probably there are certain music thats been recorded and engineered from the get-go for Spatial experience (If Pink Floyd started in the 2020s comes to mind)... but for the dated stuff I listen to, its whatever

I asked essentially the same question earlier. This is my experience with it so far.

Some albums update automatically, and others you have to delete the album, search it on Apple Music and download that version as it is the one with Atmos, Lossless or both.

I was saying that surely that cannot be the experience Apple wants us to have, nor is it one we want to have. I am not sure if because this is literally rolling out as I am typing this that it is not some technical issue, but I have deleted and re-downloaded about 15-20 albums already to get the "new" Atmos/Lossless version.

Like I said, this is just my experience...maybe others have had better luck and their albums have all updated automatically but not in my case, and I really doubt in others case as well.

But I would like an answer on this myself.

Edit: Apparently what I am doing is exactly what Apple wants us to do, and it is going to be a royal pain as my library is huge and only a small handful of albums have updated themselves.

How can I get a Dolby Atmos version of a song that I already downloaded to my library?

To get a Dolby Atmos version of a song that you already downloaded from Apple Music, just delete the song and redownload it from the Apple Music catalog.
Make sure that you turn on "Download in Dolby Atmos" in Settings on your iPhone, iPad, or Mac. Here’s how:
  • On your iPhone or iPad, go to Settings > Music, and turn on Download in Dolby Atmos.
  • On your Mac, open the Apple Music app. In the menu bar, choose Music > Preferences. Click the General tab, then select Download in Dolby Atmos.

Someone needs to go to jail for what atmos does to the main harmonies on the title track of Sgt Pepper.

UK user and it seems that, like Tidal, some Atmos tracks are being region-locked. Rush's 'Tom Sawyer' for one is Atmos in the US, but not in Canada or in the UK. Shame.

Ahh, gotcha! I'll just redownload the main albums I've been listening to so far and will just wait it out and see what happens there.

and on the other end, Prince - When Doves Cry (2015 Paisley Park Remix), the non-Spatial copy sounds like Prince is screaming into my head.

I'm not sure if the "normal" original original stereo copy sounds like that

Download means you store a LOCAL copy of music on your device.

"To get a lossless version of music that you already downloaded from Apple Music, just delete the music and redownload it from the Apple Music catalog."

If you're just playing some bookedmarked or whatever copy, you're streaming from the server, in which case you're picking up whatever version (lossy, lossless, spatial, non-spatial, etc) based on your settings and preferences

It really is a travesty.

It's like somebody applied a horribly exaggerated reverb effect to the track and then said, "Voila, Dolby Atmos!"

Just in case you did not see my edit, apparently what I have been doing is exactly what Apple wants us to do, which I think is a horrible experience especially with a huge library like I have along with many, many others.

You need to download. The copy you have is the copy you have. It's in the FAQ
Nope, this isn’t correct. I haven’t downloaded any albums recently, and I have albums in my library showing atmos and lossless. There are some albums on Apple Music that are showing atmos/lossless, but not showing in my library. My guess is background updating going on. And they may have been doing this for quite some time (days or weeks). Australia here.

Spatial Audio for Music just doesn't work. I get the Dolby Atmos logo and everything but the Spatial Audio animation in control centers stays static. When I try the demo videos, it actually works. I can hear the sound coming from specific direction when I move my head. With music I don't get the same feeling.
I think it's a messy release and we just have to wait.

Yeah I came across that. I'll just redownload albums from the main artists I listen to.

Sorry for the newbie questions - does anyone know if can you airplay to another device (non-apple) that is Dolby atmos? I'd like to airplay from a Macbook Pro/Iphone to an atmos tv or a atmos AV receiver
