Could Apple take a book out of the Epic lawsuit and rule that apps using alternative payments are still liable to pay Apple a percentage of their revenue?

After all, we know that the only real reason why app developers want to use third party payments is to get out of paying Apple 30%, even if they don’t quite say that out loud. This would make for an interesting Pyrrhic victory for these companies - give them the flexibility of using other payment options, but without the convenience or the savings.
That is the solution. Use the store and you do not have to disclose anything. Circumvent and you have to open the books to show sales so Apple can take a reduced fee for providing the shelf space and development tools.

Never mind that this is a colossal Bad Move, but it shows that a company is acting against its own bottom line in the interest of maintaining a tight grip. Hello market abuse.

The entire EU would immediately land on Apple and start abuse proceedings, the stock would plummet, bad will would happen in most countries and it might take years to recover, if ever.

Do you know anything about the Netherlands, like, at all?
And this isn’t abuse of power? Doesnt mean this decisions is good, right, fair or just. Or are you of the opinion government never can do any wrong?

We’ll no. “A lot” wasn’t defined. “A lot” could be 10.
a lot was defined within the context of the appstore. and "10" is not a lot compared to 10 million...
if 98% dosent make millions then 2% making millions is objectivly "few"
Or shut down the Dutch App Store.
i welcome apple to close down their stores in EU and stay in USA.

"A lot" in the context is correct. If the chances of winning the lottery are slim to none, having 5 people win the lottery is "a lot". Similarly the number of app store millionaires could be considered to be "a lot".

Sure. That would put a lot of pressure on android as then it would be a monopoly. But yeah, close down the Dutch app store get rid of your apple gear, sell your apple stock and close your eyes and imagine world without apple. Accomplishes the same thing.

Why don't these dating apps remove the app and just use a website? Seems it would be a slam-dunk. For $99 and some sweat equity these devs can make a lot of money. Apple should be able to compensate by charging per download or some $$$ amount to upload an update; etc.

Do you also speak to strangers like that in real life? Saying that they have lack of knowledge? Didn’t your mom teach you to be polite to strangers?
Where did I say everything is a scam?

I’m just saying that the risk of a scam is bigger outside AppStore. Not saying Tinder would scam people, but other more “creative” developers might.

I never had issues getting money back from the AppStore. Here Apple take responsibility.

If you pay with PayPal outside AppStore I guess your chances for a refund is just as good.

If you pay directly with credit card or whatever your chances will decrease.

I am providing you with context as you jumped on my post where I responded to folks making random assumptions about scams as a blanket statement for any interaction outside of the App Store.
There are tons of companies out there whose refund policy is equally as good as Apples and even that is bound to rules and regulations.

The correct statement would be, a lot of people lose money on lottery and a few become rich.

it would put little to no pressure on android as it's free. Bur yes apple should be shut down if they tries to strong-arm a government so they can break the law as a big company. And i would buy apple stocks for pennies on the dollar.

and why would i get rid of my apple gear?

Government itself sometimes has to be strong-armed as they make bad decisions. Hence the supreme court here to balance things out. Not everything the government does is fair, right, just, equitable and government does and has made stupid decisions. I'm suggesting if you are that unhappy with Apple, get rid of your gear. If you want Apple to be a USA company, you don't care if Apple is in the EU so why hang on to your gear?

Devs pay Apple $99 for the rights and technical materials, they are under no obligation to charge any amount, but it seems fair to me (and at least in the US as well), if a dev collects money, Apple should collect a commission. The problem is this is after the fact.

A government should be strong-armed by it's people, not a random foreign company. Nobody cares if apple is a US company, but if they want to do business here in the EU they need to follow certain regulations and rights designed to protect users from abuse from companies doing as they wish.

i use my apple gear because i like the OS, but will at the same time champion my government to force apple and other companies to provide right to repair or more payment options etc. Becasu i consider it as making apple devices become better, or rather all devices become better.

sure, but it doesn't mean apple and others can continue to do this when they become market dominating. it can be argued apple should be forced to allow developers use other payment methods and get nothign of that revenue outise of the members fee. apple can be free to change it from 99$ a year to 5.000$ a year.

Correct. Neither is involved here, its the juristictive branch that is
The judiciary is considered to be one branch of the government.

In the US there are 3 branches of government:
  • Legislature - writes laws
  • Executive - enforces laws
  • Judiciary - interprets and clarifies conflicts between people and laws.
All three are part of “the government”.

That's a nice ideal, but it really doesn't work that way. (Some) politicians are corrupt. I agree companies have to follow the local laws, but I dont agree they should be required to hit a moving target, such as this, nor should profits from a company be appropriated as in this case.

This is the beauty of competition, buy the gear that suits you. As Epic found out, championing a cause doesn't always work the way they want.

Your definition of better, might not be someone elses'.

I thought android was dominant in the Netherlands, not Apple. Again, government appropriating revenue is socialism. It didn't work in the US.

Sure and Apple should be free to charge by the download, or update then.
