NAB Has Morphed Into A Multimedia Show - Not Just For Broadcasters Any More

NAB is a broadcasters conference right, so anything released will be of prime interest to them. DISCLAIMER: I haven't a clue really.
For quite a few years now, since the 90's, this show has become the biggest Multimedia show on earth. It's really more like an electronic communications mini University - a show made up of a group of conferences for each specific communications medium all tied together under the NAB umbrella.

For example, yesterday Friday through tomorrow Sunday is a Podcasters conference having everything to do with Audio and Video Podcasting. In fact one of several Podcaster conference Keynotes is happening at the same time as the Apple event tomorrow morning. There's a Web conference, a Mobile Phone conference, a Radio conference and a TV conference as well - all going on simultaneously. So to call it a "Broadcasters Show" is really a misnomer. A Better term would be an Old and New Electronic Media Show.

If Steve, who was a NAB Keynote Presenter back in the late 90's even before Final Cut Pro 1 was shipping, shows up for this Apple event it will be a first. I for one hope he does and I hope he's willing to be frank about what happened to cause the Leopard delay and how it might impact us short term re: the 8 core MP and FCS 6. I'm not mad at him. I'm not mad at anyone. These things happen and we just need to relax and go with the flow. It's all good. :)

NAB is about tools for creating content, be it software, MBPs, ACDs, workshops, whatever. CONTENT CREATION, folks. Get unstuck from the "B" in NAB...sheesh.

in the good old days NAB was a big deal ... and in its way it still is, although increasingly it is mired by the wedding videography end of the market.

these days IBC is the truly 'pro' broadcasters conference

as a result, NAB has become the product announcement playground, where the big players make their big splashes ... wheras IBC is when all those clever new products actually ship (unless you're GVG's Infinity in which case you'll probably nver ship ;))

I wouldn't buy an ACD, but would love a new version just to play with in an Apple store :)

i am just putting together, what i read on the web and put it together with what i want from a users perspective.
here is what i expect respectivly hope for:

fcp:
better color-correction
better titling solution/ integration (especially rolling and crawling titles),
better integration of audio processing (in my opinion the workflow of fcp together with "soundtrack pro" and "livetype" is still way to complicated right now)

some kind of media sharing/ organizing server solution

blue ray support

logic pro:
new interface
environment replacement - something more intuitive, please

Multitouch

NAB would be a strategic entry point for Jobs to introduce multitouch displays. As the conference is geared towards content creation – and FCP and Logic are most suited to benefit from this new interface – multitouch cinema displays could be introduced now as a high-end production option, then phased into the core hardware lineup over the next six months. Incorporating multitouch into the core OS simultaneously with Leopard's release has always been a more elegant solution – but an NAB launch would give the public more time to become accustomed to the idea of the interface transition, while simultaneously denting the impact of Leopard's delayed release date.

Closed Captioning Creation Support

Thoughtful list. I most of all would like to see Closed Captioning Creation capability added. Currently this is an extremely expensive process owned, controlled and operated by an elite of Closed Captioning Priests that majorly complicates finishing a project with CC included.

Shouldn't the online stores be closing soon if they are going to release any hardware today?

The Apple store typically only goes down immediately before an announcement, so expect that it will become unavaliable some time closer to 11am Pacific.

Will there be a video of the presentation like there is with macworld and WWDC?

No, though live coverage will be provided here at this website

2Hrs 29Mins...still its a a bit lacking for me...its all Pro stuff, most likely :(

But then again MacWorld did give us any new Mac stuff

How long do we expect this keynote to be? I gotta be somewhere at 2:45 :(

(11:45 Pacific)

Good list.

I'd also like to see native 5.1 surround sound editing in FC, Soundtrack, and better support for it in DVD Studio.

What type of "live coverage"?

will there be streaming video, streaming audio, or just some one making posts to the site every so often?

My list

I would like support for different codecs and video resolutions usable in the same timeline in real time with no rendering!!! It really sucks how FCP locks you into the project settings, with all other material not matching the settings not working in real time.

I would also like a better way to track capture, auto saves, render files, and other media within the project. Right now it puts all those files in the FCP docs folder, but I always move the files and reorganize them into a final project folder for archiving and distribution. I think it would be better if all these files were stored in one project folder or file by default.

IF there are updates to the MBP...

IF there are updates to the MBP, how soon can you usually get the updates at Apples online store? How about at a Apple retail store?

I'm wondering about how likely software update for the Core 2 Duo based machines are. I expected the 8-core Mac Pro today but why would they update anything else with Santa Rosa less than a month away?
