If this was possible, I think I'd invest in having some kind of home theater. I'd invite friends and family over and collect $2 or something from everyone for a viewing of the movie.

Much better idea than what we do now, which is once every other year or so we'll all pile up into a few vans and have a whole block of seats in an actual theater. We'd probably do it a few times a year at this price.

This seems appealing for family movies, although I like the movie theater experience. I just wish I didn't have to sell a kidney to take my family to the movies.

I imagine Apple would release a real Apple Tv that provided the best itunes home movie watching experience before fully enabling this type of service.

That being said I'd be willing to pay a premium price to watch in theater movies at home.

The more people that could watch at once (at home), the better the per-person price is, so imagine the "value" will be relative to cost/headcount. $50 for a major release for just my wife and I? That's a trip to the theater or wait for home video - a $25-30 family film the whole crew can watch? (well all three of us :D) that's reasonable to me.

Other perks for home viewing (assuming you have a decent AV setup):

- no driving / parking
- more comfortable seats
- potentially cheaper (driving/parking/food/babysitters)
- pause for bathroom/beverage/food breaks (assuming it would support this)
- rewind for missed dialog, rewatch (again, assuming ...)
- no crowds, better/quieter experience (might be a deficit for some comedies that are fun to see in a big group, YMMV)
- better food, snacks, plus +adult+ beverages (none of our locals have the latter, though we have hit up the Universal Studios theater which was *fun*)

Glad I am not in the "water cooler "crowd having to know the latest movies to talk about.

Good things come to those who wait for it on cable. (As in saving a lot of $$$)

With home TVs getting bigger and bigger the movie theaters will have a harder and harder time.
This idea will not help their cause.

Since when are movie tickets $10 each for adults?

Depends on where you're going. Regal charges $10 for matinee, $12 for a normal movie, $15-18 for premiums. Cinemagic charges $8 for matinee or $10 for a normal ticket. The seats aren't quite as nice, but to save 20%, who cares?

Wow, $50!!!!?! That's insane.

It costs me and my wife $15 x 2 = $30, plus $30 for a babysitter = $60 just to go to the theaters to watch a movie.

$50 is CHEAPER and also much more convenient to be able to watch it at home after the kids are asleep. $50 is well worth it. You have to think about other lifestyles. $50 is not good for a single person. They have cheaper options to see the movie. Other people don't.

$25 Sounds like a good deal to me. Even $50 is cheap.

Movie ticket is $18 , popcorn , candy and a drink is usually $15. If I take a date it's x2

In Utah standard it's $10-15. We have $5 Tuesday all seats at the major theatre chain (luxury recliners, motion seats, 3D movies, IMAX) are $5 with small popcorn $1.50.

I'll stick with the Tuesday movie routine as long as I can.

I would LOVE to be able to watch movie theater movies at home - I would have no problem buying a ticket at the local movie theater too.

Right now, the only way to do this is some kind of personal home theater where they pre-screen clients and require biometrics....it's crazy.

$50 isn't too bad when you think about it. When I saw The Force Awakens last year, I went with my parents and uncle, and after snacks, we spent a total of about $200.

How about this, $50 rent it for 24 hours plus you get a preorder copy of the movie for when it is officially on sale. Then you would also have an option to rent it again for $25 for another 24 hour rental prior to release date.

Another day with Tim Cook, more bad apple news.

Would you have the guts to meet the man and tell him to his face what you have been wasting your posts on?

Also, you never answered my question about YOUR qualifications to run Apple.

Did you apply with the board of directors already to replace Tim?

And the apple stock drops.......

Siri: "Apple, I had it with your crap....go beep yourself."

Even if folks can't decrypt the iTunes encryption, I bet the quality of the "cam" bootlegs will dramatically increase. :)

If it's in the $20-$30 range, I'd be willing to pay for this. I'd much rather watch a new release at home than in the theaters around where I live.
The cam bootlegs, if done right...will be way better quality than the theater bootlogs. haha

Calm down, it was just his/her opinion

Makes sense.

More and more, movies are making something like 80% of their overall gross on opening weekend to second week.

After that their is a steeeeeeep decline in ticket sales (Pixar films excluding).

A steep rental price after 2 weeks would help the studios continue to bring in money after their movies get squeezed out of theaters after only two weeks in the busy summer schedule.

I wish they'd lower the price of regular iTunes movie rentals. Why can I rent an actual physical disc from Redbox for $2, but renting a digital copy from iTunes cost $4?

Convenience factor and wider selection. You don't have to go to redbox twice and you don't have to find one that has the movie you want. This is standard practice for on demand rentals.

Redbox also has limitations on when they can offer movies and how many movies they can offer at a time.
