Where I live in California, it's $11.50 for a standard ticket, $15.50 for a 3D ticket, and $18 for an IMAX ticket. And that's just one theater -- it's more pricy at some of the other theaters around here.

They're not where you live? Full price tickets at my local first-run theaters are actually only $8.75 or $9, now that I think about it, but if you've got six or seven people there to watch the movie, this would be cheaper even if you had to pay $50. Plus, the popcorn is cheaper and tastier at my house.I was wondering the same thing![]()
Even if folks can't decrypt the iTunes encryption...
I wouldn't mind paying if I had more of a choice but seems that theatres are locked into certain brands of candy etc. Therefore I presume they are getting big money from these candy companies. They aren't extorting people. The theater makes very little money on the movie tickets sold and has to make a large majority of their profits with concession sales.

Candy and popcorn is waaaay cheaper at my house!Three people going to the theater can easily add up to $50.
Also, Steve Jobs at All Things D 2010 said he believed that people would be willing to spend "a bunch of money" to watch a first run movie at home before the DVD/blu-ray release.
$50 dollars for a rental? i guess thats courageous too
Have you ever taken a family of 5 to a movies? It's around $100 by the time you add all of the crap food.Wow, $50!!!!?! That's insane.
As a parent that can not easily get somebody to watch my son. I'd pay $50 for the occasional movie. The theater just isn't an option unless I also get a sitter. So $50 would be a bargain.
That said I'd be happier with the $50 price if it came with the movie purchase. Even if that purchase didn't take effect until the regular disc release. Treat the purchase as a preorder.
really just priced my wife and 2 kids for standard= $59 and Imax = $ 87.00 without any concessionsIt costs me and my wife $15 x 2 = $30, plus $30 for a babysitter = $60 just to go to the theaters to watch a movie.
$50 is CHEAPER and also much more convenient to be able to watch it at home after the kids are asleep. $50 is well worth it. You have to think about other lifestyles. $50 is not good for a single person. They have cheaper options to see the movie. Other people don't.
Really hard to tell if you're being sincere. This is proof the Apple Watch is a flop

The only real news here is that Apple is talking to the studios. The rest is sheer speculation.Another day with Tim Cook, more bad apple news.
Luckily for me I have a lifetime membership to torrent sites! Sometimes I get a HD quality movie before it's in the theaters. If they think that I'm willing pay $50 to rent a movie they must be MAD!
