Look at the studio's point of view though. At that price they're only going to rent 2-3 copies before it's on all the major torrents. They have to make their money when they can.
This is why the price point should be lower to discourage even messing around with torrents, quality, seeding, etc. I know if I click into iTunes to rent something I will get good quality. At a certain price point, people would say screw messing with torrents. Kind of similar to music being so easy and affordable to purchase.

Here in Canada (where we get ripped off on everything), a regular admission is $15 at the only major chain we've got. Nobody I know pays that though.

  • Costco sells a bundle of 2 tickets, 2 drinks, and a popcorn for $30.
  • Every year, the cereal companies have a 4-month promo where you buy a box of cereal and some months get a 2-for-1 coupon other months it's a no-catch free admission and free snacks. It seems like every month they have 2-for-1 coupons available somewhere.
  • Every Christmas they have a coupon booklet given for free when you buy a $40 gift card. It includes 2-for-1 admissions, free admissions, free popcorn, etc.
  • with their promo credit card, every $200 I spend with the theatre is a free admission.
  • $2.50 worth of airmiles will buy me a 2-for-1 admission coupon.
  • CAA members get $9 admission
  • the Entertainment coupon books have several 2-for-1 coupons in them.
If you're paying that much for movie tickets, you're just ripping yourself off. I don't remember the last time I paid as much as $10 for a movie ticket.

Great to be thrifty.
iTunes vouchers (can be used for apple music) 15% to 20% off hopefully available every few months for all Canadian folks like in the US and UK.

Apple is like those Japanese soldiers who were left behind on an island at the end of WWII.

They were found a few years later fun they were still fighting because they had no way to know that the war was over.

$25 Sounds like a good deal to me. Even $50 is cheap.

Movie ticket is $18 , popcorn , candy and a drink is usually $15. If I take a date it's x2

Since when are movie tickets $10 each for adults?
$10? Where do you guys live that movie tickets are so cheap? $11 is the matinee price at most theaters around here now. It really is pathetic how much they charge these days.

This would open up kodi/torrent stream for really good quality on new movies I'm
Sure.

You think that is expensive? Then check out the at home, studio backed system http://www.primacinema.com/

Sometimes I think people on this site believe movies and TV shows cost pennies to make.

There, i fixed it for you.

Stealing implies ownership in the first place. They don't own anything, its a purveyed ideal that they use to profit from others.

This is an excellent idea. Like others have stated this could actually save you money from going to a theater. And it would actually encourage people that dislike going to theaters to spend more money on movies instead of waiting for them on Netflix, Redbox, HBO etc.

Luckily for me I have a lifetime membership to torrent sites! Sometimes I get a HD quality movie before it's in the theaters. If they think that I'm willing pay $50 to rent a movie they must be MAD!

Your sense of entitlement is sickening. People like you represent so much of whats wrong with society today.

I doubt the pricing is much up to Apple, the content providers hold all the cards and they really don't need Apple. Apple will of course get a cut, but it's the guys with the movies who are getting the lion's share, and setting the pricing. Likewise, if there are restrictions (and there almost certainly will be), such as time windows, limited participation of films/studios, etc., those probably aren't Apple's decisions either.

Oh so the movie was made without any money changing hands? The person that put pen to paper doesn't own what they wrote? You should just be able to take anything you want without compensating anyone? Good.... leave your doors open so anyone can come by and just take whatever they want.

Hopefully this isn't you in a few years time:

"i got caught downloading movies games books everything i got a big fine 5 years in feudal prison it sucks i ant doing it no more 25,000,000 fine it not a joke they can take your house your car everything they did it to me my friends told me about it and i was home and got a letter from the cable and looked it up it not a joke please don’t download unless you pay for it. it not worth going to jail for or getting everything you worked for and have it all taken away".

Maybe a bit tongue in cheek, not sure, but you can never be too careful nowadays.

Good luck.

50 bucks? No thanks. I rarely go to the movies because I hate being in the theater with other people. The ticket here starts at 8 bucks which is good enough for me when I do actually go. Small popcorn and soda and i probably spend 15 at the most. Double that if i take a date out.

So to spend 50 bucks to watch it at my house is laughable. Not everyone has family or kids.

It's not a bad idea, but pretty pricey. At $50, I probably wouldn't do it. At $25, I'd probably use it occasionally....

...What would sweeten the deal and get me to consider using it more at the higher price is if they'd apply part of the rental price to purchasing the movie when it becomes available for sale later on. Let's say they charge $35 for the rental (while in theaters), but then a few months later you can buy the movie at a $10 discount ($10 instead of $20). Or something like that.

I agree. At $25-$30 that is about what it cost to take my family to the movies so I could see doing it a few times a year for Family Movie Night, but at anything over $30 we will just go to the theater.

I dont think this will see much use at anything over 15. 50 is just insane lol.

They aren't extorting people. The theater makes very little money on the movie tickets sold and has to make a large majority of their profits with concession sales.
Is that how it works in the UK as well (the poster you were replying to)?
[doublepost=1481163371][/doublepost]Different strokes for different folks it seems...

The movie theatres I checked out recently are $11 for general admission, and +$3 for 3D or IMAX/its equivalent.
I almost never get food at a movie theatre. I grew up in a family where we eat before or after. If not a full meal, then a midday snack. Never saw any reason to buy THEIR food when your food was cheaper, better, and more variety.

At a 2nd run theatre I used to go to, a meal would be $13 to $22 after tax and tip (but doesn't include the price of alcohol). Tickets would be $1 to $5.5, so you were still coming out ahead.

First time saw this on another site:

Only imagine, yep. others thing this is a jack up apple price.
[doublepost=1481163990][/doublepost]I have an 16 x 9 foot screen. BUT, with all the movies out there, not paying this.

Screw that.

I'm not sure if you think you're being funny but it just makes you seem unintelligent. Clearly the price is going to be at least triple what it would be in a theater

$50 dollars for a rental? i guess thats courageous too

Do you have to drive to an iTunes kiosk to rent it and then drive back a day later to return it? That's why iTunes is double red box. Convenience.

I wish they'd lower the price of regular iTunes movie rentals. Why can I rent an actual physical disc from Redbox for $2, but renting a digital copy from iTunes cost $4?

So you're proposing $50 to see the movie in your own home AND get a Blu ray out of it?? LOLOLOL

How about this, $50 rent it for 24 hours plus you get a preorder copy of the movie for when it is officially on sale. Then you would also have an option to rent it again for $25 for another 24 hour rental prior to release date.
