LOL. Apple engineers throwing Jobs under the bus. We were aware of the risk, but Steve liked the idea anyway so we went with it.

Apple engineers were apparently aware of the risks associated with the external antenna design but "Mr. Jobs liked the design so much that Apple went ahead with its development".

A recall for an issue that most users can and will successfully avoid encountering as a significant problem, that can be fixed with a <$1 piece of rubber is the stupidest idea I've seen proposed in some time.

Anyone who has, since the Consumer Reports video, thought this would end any way other than free bumpers, is a fool

Well, the phone may not work very well, but damnit, it'll be stylish. Mission accomplished.

Form over function, flash over substance. It's what Apple's detractors have said about Apple for a long time, and it's getting closer and closer to the truth.

I also doubt the free bumper plan. I predict they announce a changed manufacturing plan so new phones don't have the issue, and if you do have it, you can exchange/replace.

I don't care anymore. Apple failed. enough said. they are so arrogant still not to admit hardware design flaw. I don't think that they could fix this damn problem by simply software update. I said it before. it's unpleasant. RECALL please.

Apple probably leaked this to get peoples expectations in line with the announcement. All of a sudden everyone is thinking a recall is coming and they don't want to dissapoint.

Sounds like bull crap to me, an article just produced to grab attention. The WSJ should be ashamed. I think there will be a re-call, it's more than likely.

That said, WHY ARE MACRUMOURS PUTTING BS LIKE THIS ANYWHERE BUT PAGE 2?

Again, recall makes no sense for a safe product most are happy with. Letting the unhappy ppl exchange is a great idea, but why would they tell people who are happy to bring their phones back?

They're all still within the 30 day return window, so no recall is needed IMO. Anybody that isn't happy with their iPhone 4 simply needs to exchange it or return it for a full refund.

I just received my iPhone 4 this afternoon.

The moment I opened the box the phone leaped out, peed on the carpet, molested my cat, and stole 20 dollars out of my wallet when I wasn't looking. Not to mention it has the signal loss issue.

That line got me too, but I don't know how much truth there is in it. Is he really that...petty?

Apple isn't Olympia and Jobs isn't Zeus. I don't like being dictated. We'll see how it all turns out tomorrow. I think it'll be a deciding moment for many...

they won't be giving away free bumpers...

Instead it will be a new iGlove, an amazing, revolutionary, beautiful, amazing, glove that is non-conductive.

Available in black or white.

(Prosthetic hand replacement optional)

what they should have done is a new update that make the bars full all the time, cause seriously, this is getting really annoying, whats next? my iPhone looks of a slightly different color when I see it from a weird angle with one of my eyes closed....none of my friends have experience increase of drop calls or bad reception, well one of them even had not notice it until I told about all the hype.

I hate how people feel it's their God-given right to use an iPhone. Apple already offers to buy the phone back from you at full cost if you're not happy with it, I don't see why they even need to hold this press conference. People need to realise that there are bigger worries in life.

Well at the moment this is Apple's "biggest worry". If people spend hundreds of pounds on an iPhone that isn't fit for purpose, they have every right to refuse it. Besides the fact that people have spent hundreds of pounds on DRM Music, apps and TV Shows, they are pretty much locked into the iPhone platform. That's why.

4.01 fixed my iPhone. Death grip before I would drop calls at around 45 seconds. Held a call for 4 minutes and iPhone never dropped lower than 2 bars and never lost call.

Thanks Apple!

Wouldn't that technically be a recall? I mean everyone with an iphone 4 is going to want a new one because...

- For the sake of getting an unscratched unit.
- In order to get the best 2nd hand value in 1yr

No doubt a new wave of 'non-flawed' iPhone 4's will surface on eBay at stupid prices. I saw them going in eBay-UK for £800+
