Yeah I can't imagine them selling 800 old notebooks whether they are released tomorrow or not. Who would buy an old one if the new ones are announced for two weeks later.

do they have backup in case SJ drops dead? Because you know it's going to happen soon I just want to make sure the keynote goes off without a hitch.

I called my local apple store today to ask a few questions about the new release. I don't know if they are trained to play dumb- but she had NO idea what I was talking about.

Told her her Big Boss, Steve Jobs was releasing new models of notebooks tomorrow in Cupertino. She said she has no info on it, no info on whether I could go and see one in the store tomorrow???!!!!

Would they really tell people to play that dumb?

No iMacs or minis or even iLife/iWork '09 at the event because the invite says the spotlight turns to notebooks.

Could iLife/iWork '09 be delayed and announced at MWSF '09.

Mac mini needs to be updated with NVIDIA chipset and 802.11n, this could be in, say a few weeks.

Also, the iMac could see a update in tandem in the same timeframe.

Yep. If they are doing their jobs correctly... If they leak they are fired. It's in their employment agreement. Loose lips sink your job...

What should i get.

So with all these updates coming out... i'm starting to think i might just be better to buy myself a current macbook pro when they become refurbished (coming under my AU$2000 budget)

So my question to you guys is, from what you've seen and heard, do you reckon i'd be better off getting a top of the line macbook for just under 2000 or the current bottom of the line macbook pro.

I'd use it for recording when i'm not at home, probably play some games when im really bored, video editing (so i kinda need firewire for my cam) so the dedicated graphics would be nice.

That being said if they get rid of the pro name and just make it one big ass macbook line i might just be able to choose off that but what do you guys reckon? Will the new macbook be comparable to the current bottom of the line pro?

Perhaps it is possible that somebody working at an Apple store really could be that clueless, it seems doubtful though.

The worst ones are the regional managers. They will lie to your face and go home to a prototype sitting on their kitchen table.

They traveled around the country with the first iphones and the first 3g's too and you couldn't get any information out of them...

I had a conversation one time with a Durham, NC person. know what he said "we know about the same or less than you, we follow all the rumor sites. on the day of the announcement, the trucks roll up the night before after we close or early morning the day of - then we are under NDA until 1:00pm (or what ever it is local time after the keynote finishes) - and that is "IF" they are available the same day."

Not sure about managers but an Apple genius will outright lie to you. I mentioned something which was well known and read here to a "genius" and he said "they say all kinds of things on the internet". Yeah, buddy of course they do whatever.

I'd advise waiting. See what comes out and if nothing else, you could probably get a 'clearance' model out of the refurb/clearance rack at the Apple Store...

I would love to see Apple run by God. The MBA would be ultraportable, the MB would actually be entry level, and the MBP would be professional. Instead of sorta kinda ultraportable, entry level, and professional. And I bet God would give me a tablet with the sensitivity of a wacom.

Yeah i always was (hell its 1 day... i can wait 1 day *clicks buy now on refurbished macbook pro* :p)

But just wondering what people around here thought... considering the current macbook pro's will probably still be better than the macbooks.

Me too.

Wow!! I think our government should take a clue and some lessons from apple if that is the true protocol:D The CIA would learn a thing or two!

So I have to ask- in regard to the plastic macbooks getting better wifi reception than alum- why would they upgrade the macbooks to alum then?????

Seems silly no?

Got me... Hah hah. wait 'till you see what's coming out tomorrow...

It'll flip you out... ;)

Mr. Jobs,
I am predicting:
Aluminium re-designed MacBooks
New MacBook Pros
New MacBook Air
Maybe new iMac
New Tablet
Mac OS 10.5.6
And less likely: New Mac upgradeable mid-range tower.

It is, but it is also about being green and recycling crap too. Also seems apple almost got rid of plastic enclosures- imac, macbook pro, macbook Air mac pro all AL, so there are only macbook and mac mini to upgrade.
