I hope to see a new MBP around june, at the WWDC maybe. I hope they lose the latch button, the ugly speaker grills and fix the separation problem of the bottom and top case

Anyone else get the feeling we may yet see either an 12 or 11" MacBook?

Almost like the Air is the smaller MBPro, a business portable. And a smaller MB will be like a student ultra portable.

Sure it will not be as thin as the air - but will probably have a smaller footprint.

My guess is no, the Air is anorexic as is, and what else could they do? The CPU is crippled (by most standards), with a severely limited HDD (SSD has less space). The Air gets outperformed by the MB, and if they tried to make an even more basic Air, they would have trouble getting people to buy it. Plus, shrinking everything would make it even more expensive, which kills the whole entry level machine idea they have going on with the basic MB. The thing the Air has going for it is that it is ultraportable, and many people do not have the need for that (however, it does look phenomenal). In fact, some of the people I have talked to, trying to get them to buy a Mac, have been turned off by the fact that the MB has a 13" screen. However, they will probably make it a little thinner, and produce less heat (although that is not as much as an issue with the MB as the MPB to the best of my knowledge) Still I can't wait till I have the money!

Same! That is the only thing i have against the Macbook, that plastic case...

I agree about the plastic case, expect that I think the black looks sweet, and it needs to stay as an option when they update, even if it is anodized aluminum:D Does anyone think the black will stay as an option on the Macbook, or will it become pro only?

I was just about to order a new Penryn MBP today
But when I got up I was surprised to find a nice new rumor.
I am thankful as it has stopped me buying for now.

More to the point, I am running a G4 powerbook, thats running like a brick
So anytime in july would make my life that much easier

Also, just like to say that I really like the black keyboard on the MBA

However if they design something new for the MBP I will be happy eitherway

I too miss my old TiBook--I never liked the aluminum powerbooks that came after it. I finally ended up getting an iBook G4 to hold me over until the Powerbook G5 came out (heh!). I loved the multiple colors of the TiBook; that plus the warmer metallic look made it easier on the eyes than the glaringly modern and somewhat soulless all-silver aluminum laptops. I think I'm out of step with the rest of our culture on this one, though, because I also detest the current trend of stainless steel appliances in kitchens. So cold and industrial.

I'd love to see a high-DPI 13" MacBook (or MacBook Pro), although that would involve Apple finally making a real commitment to resolution-independence (instead of a debug-only knob). The 160 DPI display on the iPhone really has an otherworldly quality; I can only imagine what a huge expanse of that would look like...

build quality

I hope the new laptops get better build quality now that they will all use metals for the cases.. For the most part, Apple has done great with the Macbook and MB Pro, but I want something that feels solid like a Dell Precision.

I really hope there are no major changes, nothing wrong with what they have now. At least don't mess with the keyboard.
And why do you people have all these dent problems, what are you doing with your machines? Has build quality really gotten that bad since the Powerbooks?

I just hope it looks nothing like the MBA...that thing looks like poop on a stick.

I have my fingers crossed for a black MacBook Pro! Otherwise I might just get a colorware one or get it painted myself as long as my local Apple Shop will take it apart for me :)

I am very excited to hear this news. It seems to me, that Apple the last few years has been concentrating more on the iPhone, iPod, Apple TV and downloadable media. All products I could completely care less about....

Much as you feel uncomfortable with this constant cycle of change, Apple really can't survive on their old business model - no company can now days.

What Apple do so well is re-invent themselves every few years while still retaining their fundamental identity. You should be pleased about iPhone and Apple TV because those products will hopefully guarantee Apple's future, just as the iPod did before them.

iPhone is really exciting because businesses want beautiful mobile applications. iPhone is leagues ahead of other phones in this regard - give anyone the option between beautiful and ugly, and they'll always choose beautiful. Apple TV, if not neglected, could be monumental, especially if Apple can get the studios on board for an eat-all-you-want subscription option.

I hope as much as the next person that Apple Mac computers become ubiquitous over the coming years, but it isn't going to happen. Apple need to use their creative principles to open and even create new markets, and that is exactly what they are doing.

Sorry to reply to a message that is a bazillion pages back, but I just wanted to add my noise to the ether and say how much I admire Apple for the reason you find them frustrating.

This is just more fuel to the fire without an concrete evidence. I guess EVENTUALLY they will see a design change which will make all the speculation true. I'm waiting for someone to say that they WILL and WHEN and provide EVIDENCE to support the claim. Until then, this isn't a story.

This site is called Mac Rumors. Not Mac News. apple.com is good for real apple news

It would be kind of cool if the backs had black logos.

Like the iMac's have, but they would still have some of the backlight glow to them.

Here's a quick DrawIt sketchup to show you what I'm talking about

I really hope they don't downgrade the MBP keyboard to the MacBook/MacBook Air-style keyboard. I hate it and the MacBook Pro keyboard is amazing. I probably type 50% faster on a MacBook Pro than on a MacBook.

Amen. I like my Powerbook G4, but my next notebook would probably be a Thinkpad running Linux if they rolled out the MacBook keyboard everywhere. I'd miss OS X, but if I can't use the notebook for writing, it really doesn't have much value to me. I really haven't understood as they've rolled out the horrible chiclet keys for the desktop keyboard, and now the Air. I'm still missing what's all that bad about the current MacBook Pros other than some minor issues (latches, antennas etc.).

In the Realm of Crazy
What if the MacBook used a newish form of Plastic something 'eco'
Like recycled paper fiber and resin, so the case was both recyclable and made of recycled materials.

Base model in unbeached brown.
And the blackbook. both matt feel but without the fingerprint issues.

Could be really sexy.

I so hope you are kidding!!! Do you work for Microsoft in the Zune department? I think the public and results have spoken on how well that did!

Brown can be sexy
Microsoft can't

The problems of the zune wasn't it's colour
Although Zune brown was very very bad, and gave all browns a bad name.
Brown needs to very natural to work, zune was fake plastic brown.

Altough I can clearly see the benefits of a new metallic redesign, I do still like the white plastic. I'm worried that especially the MB may lose some of its individuality. There's no mistaking one, and there are only a handful of other white laptops out there. It is design that's a bit more unique that is sononomous with Apple, and can be the swaying factor for many people. I think the MBA has managed the redesign fairly well, adopting a fresh material whilst still keeping an eye-catching visual.

After all, I couldn't think of anything much worse than having my beautiful new Apple mistaken for a run of the mill laptop.

Dude, I would love for Apple iPod Nano colors to be available on MacBooks!

But I do have to say this is getting kind of ridiculous Apple, I mean why must there be a new release for every new chip Intel makes? I mean Intel has a new chip planned every 4-6 months for the next 10 years? Wouldn’t that be like car makes producing new cars every 6 months because of 1hp difference?

This is no different from what other computer makers do. Every time Intel makes a cpu that is 100 MHz faster notebooks in the Dell online store (or everywhere else) will follow that step. Otherwise the manufactor would be out of business soon.
There are just no rumor forums and nobody talks about that. Major steps (more than just a "speed bump") on a single model line at Apple don't happen every few months.
