I know this will probably never happen, but how about a dark brown bamboo  version? High gloss varnish, sturdy, environmentally friendly, and veeery stylish.

In addition bamboo is very light and cheap as a material, although I'm not sure about the production, as it is likely more difficult to process than aluminium, which is just stamped from a sheet of alu...

I'd buy it.

Good thinking, but I wouldn't want to set it on my floor and step on it because it blended in ;)

It's like losing a MacBook Air under a stack of Magazines.

12-inch iBook still attracts attention

Anyone else get the feeling we may yet see either an 12 or 11" MacBook?

Almost like the Air is the smaller MBPro, a business portable. And a smaller MB will be like a student ultra portable.

Sure it will not be as thin as the air - but will probably have a smaller footprint.

I have a 12" iBook (late 2003) and it still attracts a lot of very positive comments and attention when people see it at (academic) presentations and seminars that I do. I agree with people who think that there's a market for a revived 12" macbookpro.

I forgot to mention that they should build in an anti gravity device, so it would float 4 feet from the ground. :D I'd definitely buy that...

Dude, it brings back memories of back to the future!
HOVERBOARDS!

I'd buy two and I'd wirelessly network them so I could put one under each foot and maybe, just maybe, get to class on time.

Actually the anti gravity is not that unlikely considering that Leopard has already a time machine. :p I guess we should stop here though. There are probably lots of dudes that want to complain about the Macbook Air keyboard etc

Good luck getting on time to class...

I liked the small 12'' iBook. I would like a new small (but affordable!) Apple notebook as long as it is big enough for a standard size keyboard. For many people a notebook is a serious computer and in many cases the only one and not a "gadget" so it must have a good keyboard.

Amen. I like my Powerbook G4, but my next notebook would probably be a Thinkpad running Linux if they rolled out the MacBook keyboard everywhere. I'd miss OS X, but if I can't use the notebook for writing, it really doesn't have much value to me. I really haven't understood as they've rolled out the horrible chiclet keys for the desktop keyboard, and now the Air. I'm still missing what's all that bad about the current MacBook Pros other than some minor issues (latches, antennas etc.).

I'm a programmer and I must say: I never had a keyboard that's better than the new slim one from Apple. But people prefer different keyboards. Some in my office swear on old Cherry Keyboards with mechanical feather instead of plastic clip and so on. Aks 10 people about which keyboard they like and you will get 11 opinions.

Time to hook up my flux capacitor based external hard drive and go to 2015, anyone one a hooverboard brought back?

Yeah, I'd like one brought back.
Make sure you're not using the Lacie flux capacitor based external hard drive though, you don't want to end up with half of your body in 1964.

Oh, and while you're at it, tell my future self to look under his bed if he ever looses anything.

Yeah but then you'd be forever bothered by evil pandas!! :p

This is just more fuel to the fire without an concrete evidence. I guess EVENTUALLY they will see a design change which will make all the speculation true. I'm waiting for someone to say that they WILL and WHEN and provide EVIDENCE to support the claim. Until then, this isn't a story.

Actually, it's a rumor. Hence the name, MacRumors dot com.

A computer made from organic materials? That's so 80's. Seriously, I'd love to do my part to save the environment, but I wouldn't be caught dead holding a bamboo or wooden laptop.

What I'd like to see is a burnished aluminum or carbon fiber with a gun metal gray finish. Maybe some black matte trim and jet black keys against bluish backlighting. They can keep the same form factor... and please don't make it as flimsy looking as the Macbook Air.

I had a PB15 for several years, which I bought specifically as it had one of the best keyboards on the market. Then as it was dying, I recently bought a C2D MB. I held off for a long while as I was nervous about the MB chicklet keyboard. Horrible memories of 1980s Sinclair Spectrums

After a month or so, the verdict: I love it. I really like the MB keyboard. It has a lovely tactile feedback, and as the keys have gaps in between, I seem to mistype less.

Even the lack of keyboard backlight has an advantage - no light in the dark is forcing me to drastically improve my touch-typing. I'm now more productive on it than on the PB15. Kind of like having the Das Keyboard (the one with no letters on the keys) for free.

Recently, after 4 months or so on the MB, I pulled out the PB15 for some reason. Discovered I couldn't type on the PB15 keyboard! Definitely prefer the MB keyboard now.

Also my MB is lighter, and with far better wifi range. I do worry that if the new MB design is metallic, it will really bugger up the wireless.

Did the MR article mention stainless steel? A MB / MBP with a stainless steel back, like the iPod, would be fantastic! Can someone do a PS mockup of a MPB with stainless steel back?

Dear Mr. Jobs -

This is the wish list of hardware features that should be on the new portables.

MBP: 1.) 16 inch & 18 inch screens 2.) DDR3 RAM 3.) Read/Write Blue Ray drive 4.) revised backlit keyboard [I'd prefer a darker blue or a dark orange, that stands out more, makes it easy on the eyes but also looks good] 5.) more multitouch features in the mouse pad.

MB: 1.) eliminate part of the inch boarder around the screen 2.) 13 inch & 15 inch LED displays 3.) BTO DDR3 RAM option 4.) BTO Blue Ray read, DVD RW drive 5.) light up keyboard 6.) multitouch mouse pad

I think increased reliability and serviceability goes without saying on both new models. I like the idea of applying some of the curvature of the iMac and TiBook to the new design. I also really like the silver and black approach, its classy, yet subtle. Finally, the BTO options on the macbook and the 15 inch display for under $2000 would make that model an instant hit on college campuses.
Nice list, although I would like to think the Macbook would get DDR3 ram as standard.

I agree with this, my typing is much better now than on my old PB 12". I also recommend getting a laptop stand to give the typing surface a bit of an angle. I'm using a KoolSink and it makes typing much more comfortable.

I'm another person who thought this for a long time. My wife loves her MB, but I just couldn't get over my old PB. Then I bought the new slim keyboard for my Mini and I love it. It really surprised me, but I wish I had a new laptop with the same keyboard on it.

Also, the store is currently down at Apple, so here's hoping for something fun today. I need a new Apple toy.

damn, my macbook pro just broke and I need a new one ASAP... guess I'll have to stick to penryn.

Maybe pick up an el cheapo on eBay to hold you over. No sense in dropping 2 grand when you're going to turn around and pick up a new one in a few months.

im thinking of selling my MacBook Pro Core Duo and with that money buying a MacBook or 12" PowerMac and then building my own kickass penryn quad core PC with an 8 series for gaming.

hopefully Apple releases a 12" widescreen aluminium MacBook 1.0" thin at the same price as the current MacBooks as i would be all over that. but ill still go for a 13" white MacBook if they only update the specs by June. im not too fussed :).

heres the system i will get on Newegg US$1308 (not including shipping).

Dear Mr. Jobs -

MB: 1.) eliminate part of the inch border around the screen

I had a PB15, and I held off on buying a MB for the same reason - I felt I wouldn't like the giant border around the screen.

Now, several months after buying a C2D MB, the verdict: I like it. The large border actually helps to isolate the screen from the background / any activity going on behind the MB.

At work, I use a Dell 2007 monitor, with very thin borders, and I actually wish sometimes it had larger borders to isolate the monitor screen from the filing cupboard and other office junk in my field of view.

Another case of ergonomics vs style.
