Come on, a new design for MBP !! because the other pc manufacturers can make design like this now :

It's a copy of the MBP design and i'm looking forward to see in real before telling what i think of it.
That looks really nice. Better than the MBP, actually.

what actual evidence is there to suggest updates of mb/mbp?? Really don't want to get hopes up for nothing!!

Apart from the Spec differences noted above: Even if the display is driven with a lower res you might encounter problems with the HDCP protocol. This Digital Restrictions Management thingie might stop you from seeing anything on your display as it is optional for DVI whilst required for HDMI.

DVI -> HDMI should always work
HDMI -> DVI will work if the resolution is within both specs range and a) "No HDCP is used" or b)"The DVI port happens to support HDCP".

I hate Digital Restrictions Management... No mater if for Music, Video, Games, ... It's just plain crap...
MacBook Pro has HDCP support, handshakes with my Fujitsu plasma just fine.

MacBook does not have HDCP, and display limits the resolution and says "Certification Failed" when you try higher resolutions.

I hope they do something soon. I hate that feeling when you're in the market for a new mac, and you never know when to buy...

You've got to be kidding. Looks like a Graphic student's project. Glossy interior?!

Just following the release schedule of the Montevina platform allows for a good educated guess

You obvuiosly have no experience with Carbon fiber.. that stuff is STRONG as hell, DURABLE as hell, and very sexy. If I were going to pick the perfect material to make a laptop from it would be Carbon Fiber...

The main issue is that since it a polymer, it is harder to produce and is EXPENSIVE as hell.

I hope for the MacBook the casing becomes Aluminum, One USB 2.0 port is added to the right side, they get rid of the damn combo drive on the base model, they receive a 200MHz to a 400MHz speed boost, a higher 1066MHz FSB, a actual GPU (I don't know what kind really, so long as it is a improvement over the current graphic abilities of the MB), another 20-40 gigs added to the HD storage space and a price drop of 150$ on each model.

It will never happen though, one of the things about loving Apple's operating system is you need to use the hardware (legally anyway).

As for the MBP, the express slot should be bumped to a average size. One more USB port would be nice, the same speed bump and same FSB as the MB, a s-video port would be cool, they should loose the firewire 400 port IMO, the HD space should see a increase of 30-60 gigs (all being 7200 rpm), the frame should become something unique (like stainless steel), and the HD should be user more use accessible (like the MB). A price drop of 150-200$ on each model would be nice as well.

I hate Apple's over priced hardware, although it is getting better. But these are all just my opinions.

I think they should ditch the "MacBook" and "MacBook Pro" model names and just call them all "MacBooks". All metal cases, available in 13", 15", and 17".

If the MacBook moves to a metal case, backlight keyboard, etc. the graphics card/screen size will be the only difference between the models. I don't think this should qualify as totally different models. They should all be MacBooks and just be available with different specifications (like better graphics card/bigger screen).

Why doesn't Apple give the "BlackBook" a real GPU and make it the 12" PB replacement? I'd kill for a MacBook with a GPU. I'd certainly pay a bit more for one (and no, I don't want a 15" MBP).

Carbon fibre is extremely durable and light. It is handsdown the best material for laptops. It can be made to look and feel like anything you want. It can have that cold steel touch or that cheap plastic look and feel.

It can be extremely stylish, extremely light and extremely strong at the same time. I dont know why anyone would pick any other material the carbon fibre. It is just the best

Thinking this makes me cry, because I know Apple will never do it. I thought that doing that simple thing, adding a GPU in the blackbook, would have at least justified the price and made it a real 12" replacement but sadly that isn't so.

The MBA is touted as being the 12" PB users machine, but since it lacks the functionality is just doesn't cut it. Maybe one day there will be a great looking feature filled lineup for the Mac portables, but as of now, we are just bidding our time.

I don't care if the Envy's made out of bacon. My only point was the MBP looked better, and I maintain that.

I agree. How can the MBA possibly be a real replacement to the 12'' PB? The 12'' was small, yet was fully featured. The MBA lacks Ethernet, an optical drive, FireWire, etc.

The 12" PB was around 50% heavier and thicker than the MBA though. I'm sure MBA could have offered more with those dimensions.

MacBook. Apple went another way with the MBA and marketed toward the "thin, light" obsessed crowd RAZR and such products attract.

it doesn't take experience to recognise an ugly laptop. experience helps with comprehension and parallelism though ;). even though it has the main design of a macbook pro, the macbook pro has way better detailing and fit and finish. look at the speaker grills on that ugly carbon fibre beast. i know where you're coming from when you say that voodoo laptop looks nice. it does look ok in a way, but in a different niceness than the macbook pro. sure alienwares look nice and high tech but macbook pros look nice in a minimalist way.

This may tip me in favor of getting a laptop, it's time to upgrade and I've been divided about whether to get a new iMac or not. The current designs are looking a bit dated, I can't wait to see what the new ones look like.

You know, this is taking forever to be updated.

So i have a dilemma

I am a student, ready to become a freshman in college and want to make the most of my purchase. This means, getting the free ipod touch and free printer due to the student college thing.

Should I- Buy a MBP now and get the discounts

or

Wait with baited breath for the new MBP's to come out and hope to God it comes out before the deals close?

Do u guys have any speculation when the new MBP will be released at all?

If by August around mid month they aren't out, buy your MBP. The new update won't be ground breaking anyway so me thinks.

Can't wait! I figured there were updates just around the corner. I have been looking to get a MacBook Pro but now I'll rather wait, especially at least until the current free iPod promo ends.

Nor do I. But I do need that GPU. I bought a blackbook thinking the X3100 would be good enough, but it's not. I didn't want the 15" MBP because it's too big (for me). But now I'm going to have to find someone to buy my blackbook and save up a few more pennies...

Speaking of which... :p

The deals are presumably to move "old" stock... or rather, the current stock. They won't bring out a new MBP whilst the back-to-school thing is on... or at least, they don't tend to...
