These people want everything and try and take advantage of Apple generosity !
- On the one hand they want excuses for a service that doesn't work.
- On the other hand they want more storage on that not-working service.
Go to Google you self-infatuated dummies !

This makes me cRaZy. If I have one device, I get 5GB of iCloud, but if I buy two, I still only get 5GB? My two backups (iPad 64GB and iPhone 64GB) exceed 5GB (but not 10GB). If I've got more than 100 MB of iCloud documents (beside contacts, ical) I'd be shocked.

This is money I'll be annoyed every time I have to pay the bill.

Remember, this is a "Post PC", if someone only owns an iPhone and iPad, this is all Apple really thinks they should need...

Is it me or are they limiting us to a maximum 25 GB of cloud storage?

I have the 50 GB plan now and would like to maintain 50 GB but it seems that on 9/30 I am going to get dropped to 25 GB.

I would pay for more storage if it were offered.

It is offered, it just isn't clear how to keep it. According to the message you should see the plan it will be downgraded to. What isn't clear is that you can just select the current plan to keep it. The way it is presented makes it appear you have to choose one of the lower plans.

How are your backups so large?

My wife is in the same boat...Camera roll pushing her over the 5GB on her iPhone 4S. What are you all doing to get the photos in the roll backed up if there is no computer/itunes to throw them on? Any advice from this forum would be helpful. Thank you.

No big deal. After two years with MobileMe's rather inconsistent performance, I prepared myself for more of the same with iCloud.

At some point it would be nice to see Apple "get it" and improve the way they setup cloud services. Until then I'm only using a sliver of storage space just to keep my account active.

For my "main" cloud storage and services requirements, I'm very happy with the third party providers I'm using. There's great peace of mind knowing these others are proven solutions.

Even at that, should disaster strike I've got backups in my office, at home, and off site. One can never have too many current backups.

Will Apple make me move or delete my stuff just as I get comfortable using iCloud? Very likely.

Will I use iCloud for my stuff? Very unlikely.

What I found is that my Camera Roll was backing up by default, and that was over 5 GB by itself! Once I removed that, I dropped down to about 700 MB on the iPhone, 500 on the iPad.

I figure the still photos all go to Photo Stream, and I import-then-delete the videos within a day or two. If I happen to do something that I know I absolutely positively cannot afford to lose the videos in the roll, and won't have a chance to import within a day or two, then I'll turn it back on temporarily.

I already pay for extra iCloud gigabytes

- so why do I receive this message ???

Can't Apple tell?? - and they just sent this email to everybody that used to have an old account.

You could use applications like GoodReader to copy photos to another location. If you don't have a computer it will be more difficult. I did not tried the camera kit if its allow to write on memory card; but you could connect also to a wifi-hard disk and copy the files over. Manual work for sure.

iCloud is a great idea. But why wont Apple give more space per device their customers buy? 5 gig is ok for 1/2 devices. But its impossible to make cloud backups if you have 3+ devices.

Why not give each customer that register an iDevice 2.5 gig-5gig more for free?

Now when iCloud downgrades the storage space, I have to stop using cloud backup :( Punished for owning to many of Apples products.

Because so many people will just pay up. Apple, always coming up with ways to rip you another one!

This has to be one of the most shameless bait-and-switch tactics I have ever seen. I just feel bad for all those less tech savy people who thought that having the extra storage would be great, then apple now wants them to pay a lot more for their intellectual property that might not easily be removed.

Would have been nice if we got 5 gigs per ios device. I've spent over a thousand dollars at the apple store this past weekend, I guess 40 more won't hurt, those worry free backups are nice.

I'd be happier if they just charged us $10 for every 5GB too. It'd be less (for a while) and many would just let it grow and grow and not notice getting nickeled to death.

On paying Apple: I don't think I'm getting my moneys worth from iTunes Match, I don't think they'll be getting my renewal money.

What a ripoff? Seriously?

Amazon cloud service is 25$ for a year for 50gb and offers free music storage? I'm not sure how the Apple tax accounts for 75$...thank god I switched to android a long time ago and stepped out of the itunes ecosystem...not to mention the additional monthly cost. hah

I have 8gbs of mail in my iCloud backup. So, if I choose to stop backing it up, will I lose the email on iCloud.com? Is it unlimited storage directly on iCloud.com and just choosing to back up?

idisk used to allow you...

to assign sizes to the items. You could assign a size to mail for example.

So how do you do that now? The way I see it, mail is either on or off, there's not setting you can use for choosing how much mail you backup to the cloud.

I wish I could access all the songs when I connect my phone to my car, even if they aren't downloaded.

Surely it would make a lot more sense, since Apple makes its profit per device, to give users 5GB for each device they purchase and link to their Apple ID?
You could set up different accounts for each devices I guess..

Icloud is a mess

and I hate having to use the "icloud" extension on email. Do I need to go around saying "look, my mail is in the cloud"?

This is not elegant at all.

Yup. Last time I restored my iPhone, I signed up for another iCloud account before restoring my backup, just to have another.

As for "having" to use iCloud.com... The one I just signed up for last week uses me.com, and won't even get an icloud.com address until sometime in the next couple weeks!

From iCloud .com:

"Manage or buy more iCloud storage
Your iCloud account includes 5 GB of free storage for Mail, Documents, and your iCloud Backup. Your purchased music, apps, books, and TV shows, as well as your Photo Stream, don’t count against the 5 GB of free storage."

I remembered that I was supposed to pay for another year today, so I checked the status on my iPhone.

I guess I got a bonus extension, since I hadn't renewed yet. ;-)

I never received a downgrade warning email so I checked my iCloud settings today and noticed this as well. My 25GB plan doesn't expire until 2050.
