Wasn't the 4S supposed to be a flop? That's what the naysayers were saying after the keynote. And now carriers can barely keep up with demand?

Interesting.

I ordered my phone from apple this am. Wasnt happy with the shipping location. I was able to go into my order and edit it. Hopefully nothing gets messed up.

After multiple errors...

I finally got my order in at 9AM Pacific, Apple has confirmed delivery on the 14th.

Any idea when these phones will be shipping? I assume that it will have to ship within the next day or so to make it by next Friday...

Do AT&T pre orders typically ship from the U.S., or do they have Apple ship them direct from China?

is there anyway i can switch eligibility with a family member online or do I need to do that in-store?

They changed things with the new AppleCare+. You still have until the warranty runs out on other products (like Macs).

It seems you are still given the year to purchase AppleCare+

In the AppleCare+ conditions, it states

4. What is not Covered?
(viii) A pre-existing condition on any Covered Equipment if you purchased the Plan after you purchased the Covered Equipment.

11. General Terms
(x) You must purchase the Plan while your original iPhone is within Apple’s One Year Limited warranty. Apple is not obligated to renew this Plan. If Apple does offer a renewal, it will determine the price and terms.

Have business accounts with both Sprint and AT&T. AT&T upgrade took 15-20 minutes, excellent!

Sprint, on the other hand..tried calling to upgrade, put on hold for 20 minutes, and then was told upgrades can only be done online. Tried doing it online, but do not remember pin #/passcode, was told to do an online chat. Tried doing online chat, with no response. Keep this up, Sprint, and you'll be losing 2 more lines in addition to the 10 you lost when the iPhones first came out and we switched to AT&T.

I did this too. I really hope they don't do something dumb like cancel the order.

No guarantees this will still work, but this is what I have done in the past:

I ordered the new phone under the eligible line. When the phone arrived and I set it up, it turned off sim in that line's original phone. Therefore...

I put the new sim in the other family member's old phone (since ATT turned off the old sim). Also remember that some phones have DIFFERENT sized sims.

I then put my sim (again remember some phones have different size sims) in the new phone.

This was all with iPhones, so the iPhone data plans didn't get messed up or anything.

Again, don't know if it would still work, but worked for me before and was quite simple really.

AT&T retention agents must be having a long week...they broke down and just gave her the early upgrade - lol.

They even processed her preorder for her. :D

I've never pre-ordered an iPhone, until now. I read something about phones arriving earlier than launch date sometimes when preordered? Anyone want to elaborate on this?

I'd say that has more to do with people searching for news about Steve Jobs.

But I also think the 4S is going to sell well. I know I'll be getting one.

Of course it is. The people only really had the name to whine about. It's 2x faster, has 7x the graphical capabilities, and an 8 megapixel camera. On top of all this, it's in 64GB! :D

Really, there's nothing to complain about. It should sell fantastically well.

This happened last year when iPhone 4's were showing up on door steps the day before retail launch. Some attribute this to AT&T and their attempt to stagger the mass of activations and prevent the inevitable system crash that took down AT&T's servers on iPhone Day 2009.

siri

What I don't understand is why they locked siri to the 4g? Is it so processor intensive, the current app doesn't seem to be and neither do any of googles apps that do speach/voice recognition. Is it just to force people into a new phone? Could be, but it isn't very apple like, I mean they DO usually cut off the OLDEST iterations but they don't usually ex out everyone except the latest model? Seems sad that they too killed the app and will kill the service for the app entirely on 10/15/2011, so anyone who DOES use it won't be able to - unless they buy a new phone.

At least people didn't PAY for the siri app.

I placed my pre-order at Verizon's site half an hour after it went live (I gave up at Apple's site). I just checked my order status and it says it's expected to ship on 10/21. Buhwuhhhhh? Could that be accurate? Is demand that high?

No. Verizon simply did not reserve enough phones from Apple because they could not imagine anyone opting for iPhone on Verizon with their ridiculously slow 3G speeds. Who would want to use iPhone one Verizon these days?

Was this even necessary?

If you're in major urban areas:
Verizon = Slow and reliable
AT&T = Fast and unreliable (comparatively)
