Nice upgrade on the Mini for sure, too bad it didn't get the same 128GB starting point as the iPhones.
64GB is way too small and the cost of the 256GB option is getting into the "a bit too much for what it is" territory.

Kind of off-topic but with all of these updates today of all these products, it’s just absolutely bizarre that they’re still selling the old, extremely outdated, 4 inch displayed, single terrible cameraed, no touch ID or Face ID, square home button, abysmal battery life carrying, A10 processor rocking, $200 iPod touch.
Other than the processor, this thing is literally straight out of 2012.
This design was introduced before the first iPad mini, before the first Apple Watch, before the first AirPods.
iOS 6 was the latest version when this design was introduced.
Why does this still exist almost a decade later.

Dang, $649 for a 256GB Mini 6 is a little steep when considering I got a 256GB Air 4 for $599 a couple of months ago. 🤔
Of course, the use case is not exactly the same and the chips are not the same either. But still...

This looks like a nice upgrade overall, but I do have to say that I really wasn’t a fan of touch id on the power button on my iPad Air4. I had for a number of months, and sold it. I upgraded it to an iPad Pro 11 and much prefer Face ID. I also have an iPad Mini 5 that I use primarily as a reader, and I actually think the the home button is more convenient, jut because I always know where it is in an instant. And it’s easier to use. But maybe that’s just me…. Overall, for those of you have been waiting for this, it seems like an improved device. The slightly bigger screen size should be nice!

Bigger Screen, nice. New design, very nice. Better batterie, really a reason to buy, USB C, sold.

I seem to be in the minority concerning the Touch ID on the iPad Air 4. I’ve never had an issue (other than once or twice when my hands were wet) with it responding. I only post this so anyone on the fence sees at least one positive vote…

the OG ipad mini, and even the first retina, were the perfect kid devices.

but this is a mini iPad air/pro....at this price, no way I'm giving it to my kid.

As an owner of the Mini 5 I think this isn't a major upgrade for my purposes. I don't care about bezels. Never bothered me, a place to put your fingers. But I've always hated the bottom firing speakers. So...ordered and, if it checks out, will send in my Mini 5. Trade-in value of $225 for my base model looks fair compared to what they've sold for recently on eBay + the effort & cost of doing so (and I have sold many things on eBay).

The 4th gen is A8 based so its really slow comparably. Its not capable of scrolling long web pages smoothly at a quick speed. Using the 5th gen that was A12 based made a big difference.
the 5 also has a gig more RAM. this feels more like a memory problem and not the processor.

regardless, time to replace the 4. :)

I just orderd mine, space grey, orange folio case, pencil2 and apple care, I even got my mini 5 to trade in, this and the PS5 made today an expensive day, roll on iPhone 13 order day.

And I’m sure a year from now you’ll be able to find the Mini 6 for a comparable discount as well. Were you to buy a 256GB Air 4 at launch it would have run $749, which it still does coincidentally if you buy from Apple directly.
“Apples to Apples,” as they say.
For what it’s worth, this pricing is identical to how it was when the iPad mini 4 dropped alongside the iPad Air 2. They were otherwise identical other than screen size, but the mini was 100 bucks less than the Air 2. In this case, the Mini 6 is still a hundred less but has an improved CPU over your Air.

As much as I always loved Apple‘s mini products (including the iPad mini), I will hold out to see one in-store.

At 2266 x 1488, the resolution is actually smaller than the previous generation’s 2048 x 1536 in width.

The mini aspect ratio was great. Will have to see the new one in real usage.

Also, the mini 5 TouchID means you could pick it up and unlock it with one hand. No longer possible with the 6?

The camera bump is also a disappointment. For me the mini camera only needs to be good enough for a quick scan of a document. It isn’t worth making it unstable on a table or requiring a constant thickness increase with the new cases.

I missed that detail, going from 4:3 to 3:2 is really only nice for watching movies.
Kinda worse for everything else.
