I can’t actually believe this happened. I just completed the merge. Now, a quick story. I had a support issue revolving around family sharing and managing my daughter’s account. It got escalated to engineering, who still didn’t quite have the right fix, but their input helped me work out a fix. I was asked my thoughts on how to prevent the issue in the first place, and I told them “for the love of god, allow us to merge apple accounts or transfer purchases!” This was about a month ago. As improbable as it may be, I’m taking credit for this one. You’re welcome everyone!

Buy some external storage. Way cheaper than discs.
I started doing that before realising it would cost a fortune in external hard drives. In my experience there is very little difference in price between iTunes and buying the DVD.

Tired of Apple trying to force 2 factor authentication on everyone.
Apple is now more obnoxious than Microsoft
You seem to have no interest in expending the slightest effort to protect yourself. When you get hacked, will you sue a company for not protecting your account? Yes, two factor can be a bit annoying. But if a few seconds of annoyance can prevent someone from hacking and draining a very large amount of my money, then I can live with it. Why others don't understand this is beyond me.

Very smooth process for me, but I noticed what I believe to be an undocumented “issue:”

Game Center does not migrate. I remained signed into my old, secondary account, and after signing out and back in with my new single Apple Account none of my achievements or friends had come over.

Anyone else have Game Center successfully transfer over? Seems like this is just a feature that doesn’t migrate.

I wonder if the motivation to FINALLY offer this simple utility relates to upcoming on device learning. Probably best with a single user rather than two user accounts.

It would be quicker and easier if Apple Face/Touch ID was able to validate you without needing the added layer of 2FA.

Oh I went through Apple privacy to delete my old Apple accounts last year…could’ve migrate the FCPX/Logic Pro X to a newer account…

Frustrating. Says I need to cancel pre-orders on the one account then shows I have no pre-orders....anyone else run into this and know whats up?

Wow! I have been waiting for this day for almost 15 years. I never thought it would happen. 🤯

My only concern is Movies Anywhere linking. Currently, it's linked to my secondary Apple ID that I only use for media purchases. If I move everything over to my primary iCloud Apple ID, will my movies imported via Movies Anywhere also transfer over? Or do I have to unlink my old Apple ID from Movies Anywhere and then re-link using my primary Apple ID?

I suppose both accounts need to use the same App Store in the same region, right?

Got excited for a moment reading the headline and thought they'd actually started allowing people to transfer digital purchases to each other. Probably another 20 years until we see that...

Day over the years you bought hundreds of crapware that is tied to your account - things like fart apps and other shovelware you downloaded as a teenager. Can you move all those downloads off your primary account and move it off to a second “fake” account so it is no longer tied to your primary?

Good thing !

But I bought all my things 8 years ago already. I was surprised this wasn't an option back then...

It seems to transfer over for me, but I still on unliked and re-linked. I think another comment was correct in saying there's like a shadow account so the old account is still out there but it's no longer used. It's like maybe symlinked over or something. But the net effect is still you have one account and you can transfer in all your old purchases and history and libraries. And finally, you can use the storage that comes from Apple one if you sign up for that.

This is truly a DAY OF ALL-TIME on the MacRumors forums.

TBH I never thought I would see it happen.

At least we still have the placement of the charging port on the Magic Mouse to keep us going.

Careful here. I just did the merge, and all the music I had on my phone that I didn’t buy from Apple/iTunes is not there. All but 2 playlists are also missing. Song count was over 10k, now down to about 1500.
It says it could take a few hours for the music library to migrate, but I’m glad I have backups just in case.
