Who actually uses the Apple domain email address? I doubt many do.
I do, it’s very reliable, just need to be able to change my Store ID to my Apple ID now,

I have been using my @mac.com address for many years, and I know others that do. Maybe give them a call and ask to find out why yours isn't working.
[doublepost=1509516979][/doublepost]

Exactly :)
Same problem for me, let me know if you can

I'm surprised so many use @me instead of @icloud. I don't remember why, but when iCloud came out I started using that one. I don't think I was with MobileMe for too long. If I had bought an @mac.com address I'd definitely still use that one.

I'm really excited about this. I've waited for it for a long time. Too bad I need to wait until later to make the switch. I'm falling asleep already tonight and don't want to start on this.

No one because apple.com isn’t available to the general public. But iCloud.com is! And all of our clients use it!

Can anyone explain to me why I'm forced to have both @icloud.com and @me.com email addresses automatically added to my Mail.app on IOS just because I sign in with Apple ID? Is there a way to remove those?
Yes! In iOS Go to > Settings > Accounts & Passwords > iCloud > Scroll to the bottom under Advanced > Mail > Then deselect the sliders for the email addresses you don’t want.

This should automatically reflect as well in Mac Mail in MacOS!

If I (a) change countries and (b) change my Apple ID (@hotmail to @icloud) can I still download my purchases made in that country with that old Apple ID? Thanks!

Careful, this may be a bridge too far!

You can however, use two AppleID ‘s to on one phone to run apps from two countries, but can only be logged into one at a time in the App Store (ie to update the non primary account you have to log in and out.

I wonder if the following will work, although I don't know all the rules to be sure this is possible.

2 accounts right now, called oldpurchases@yahoo.com and desiredaddress@icloud.com. Oldpurchases@yahoo.com is being used just as a store account, desiredaddres@icloud.com is currently used for everthing else.

Change desiredaddress@icloud.com to throwaway@icloud.com (I am not sure how to get this step done.)
Disasisociate the link between desiredaddress@icloud.com & throwaway@icloud.com, effectively freeing it up to be reused. (This is the step I am not sure is possible either.)

Now change oldpurchases@yahoo.com to desiredaddres@icloud.com. Run everything from this one renamed account, and keep the purchases originally made.

Won't work at all. You can't change the name of an account that has a primary address of *****@icloud.com. You can only change the name of accounts that have a third-party domain as the primary address. Apple won't let you throw away an iCloud.com name.

What Apple is allowing here is to let us start using the iCloud.com alias already associated with the account as the primary name. The primary benefit, as far as I'm concerned, is that you can toss that @old_hated_internet_provider.com address that hasn't worked since you switched providers, without having to switch to @new_not-yet-hated_internet_provider.com.

None of this has anything to do with merging accounts. I don't see Apple ever allowing that - as helpful as it could be, it's also a process that could be used for account hijackings. It could be quite a challenge to validate that the person requesting the merger has the right to merge those accounts.

Im so glad I was able to change mine. I hated having to use a third party email for so long.

Not sure whats wrong, I use an obsolete hotmail account as my Apple ID but when I try to change it to my current @icloud.com email address I get an error saying I cannot have an Apple ID ending with icloud.com..

I had the same error showing. My @icloud.com address was already linked to the 3rd party address as my primary address. If that's the case, you need to delete the primary address (@icloud) first.

After removing the association from my @icloud.com to my apple ID. I was able to change the 3rd party address to my @icloud address successfully !

Finally. It always made it hard to go all Apple when I couldn’t change my Apple ID itself to an Apple domain. Glad to see

The gates of heaven have opened and prayers have been answered!!

Finally I can fully let go of an old domain account. Finally only 1 email alert for changes, registrations, store offerings, apple news and the like.

One and Done.

PS: what on earth was the reason for restricting this change for so damn long?!

Seems to be working partially at the moment. It's allowing me to change my Apple ID to @icloud.com but not to @me.com. I'll just have to give it another day or two and hope that this gets resolved.

Same here. That sucks, I prefer me.com

I mean, I can ditch my other email that I only kept for my Apple ID, but I can’t believe you can’t use me.com

I originally used my @Mac account but apple killed if that email address and had to create a 3rd party address as a backup.
Are they reactivating @mac.com ? I don't think so. Someday iCloud will be phased out and email accounts canceled for new ones like steve@ios.com

I've been using @Mac @me and even @icloud for years. They all redirect to the same inbox

Ou could sign up with @icloud, and still use the @me email for websites/contact. It's a unified inbox for both accounts

Yeah, I’m aware. I signed up for a me.com account when iCloud first launched in beta. Then I picked three aliases. Then, when they rolled out iCloud.com email, I had 8 total addresses. To some that may be convenient, for me it’s kind of annoying. While all mail will go to the same inbox, it’s more an OCD thing for me. I use me.com for everything, so would prefer that be my ‘official’ ID.

I just don’t understand why I can’t use me.com, unless they’re just trying to push the iCloud name.

I have two Apple IDs. One with a "me.com" email address... and one with a third party email address.

I have a lot of iTunes purchases on both accounts. I would like to amalgamate both accounts... so that I only have the "me.com" Apple ID/account.

Does anyone know if this is possible??

Also... I wish you could use a third party email address/account on iCloud's email app. Pretty please, Apple. :)

What do you mean you removed the association to the primary address? I have a 3rd party email as my id and it as an associated iCloud alias for mail but no way to remove it from appleid page or anywhere else?

Maybe it’s not active yet? Try again tomorrow.

I am having the same issue, anyone else?

Hm, doesn't work for me. It says I can choose to switch to an existing Apple ID, but it doesn't show any list of available ones and when I type something in ending in @icloud, I just get

Your Apple ID cannot end in @icloud.com. Choose a different email address.

Is this feature not pushed yet?

I’m having the same issue (in Aus)

It probably needs to propagate over all of Apple’s servers worldwide. Kinda like the App Store I guess?

I just tried to do this but I keep getting an error "Your Apple ID cannot end in @me.com. Choose a different email address"

I read that too... that means signing out of my all of my associated devices except my iPhone. It should not be that much of a nuisance to change an AppleID.
o_O:confused::eek::(

Not working at all for me.

For anyone who got this to work, did you have to sign out from both iCloud accounts to get this to work? Or just the one with the 3rd party address?

Same here. I tried going on Apple to do this, it errors out. So I stopped trying. Still kind of fuzzy on what this does. But whatever it is, I can’t seem to set it up.

Same here

Not working in Canada from the apple site

I got the same error using my @me.com address. So much for that change.

I’ve been on to Apple Support and we found out what was wrong.. I had my iCloud email address as the rescue email address on another Apple ID. I signed in and removed it, signed out of all of my devices, and then it would let me change it. Not sure if it was a coincidence or not but it worked for me. I have an Aus Apple ID :) Hope this helps!

I need Apple to
1) Let me merge Apple IDs
2) Let me change my primary Apple ID username

My primary Apple ID account is still the silly "company" I made in 1994 called Wigwam Multimedia when I was a young teenager. It has followed me through iTools, .Mac, MobileMe and iCloud and while I have aliases it defaults to the stupid wigwammultimedia@mac.com more often than I want to.

If only they would let us merge two accounts for those of us who created a second account in order to move away from our 3rd party email address...

THIS!

I need to maintain two accounts until this is possible. Purchase software, hardware and services on one, and use one for all the iCloud functionality + iCloud Drive. Maintain two accounts, two credit card entries, etc, etc... I want to merge my accounts!!! And I've been wanting to do this for YEARS.

Yeah thats the point. That is the thing we want for years now!
Just merge Apple IDs together or at least merge the purchases from one to another Apple ID.

Maybe demand is registered as "off the charts" - if billions of users start flodding the feedback mailserver.
