So wait, I'm still confused after 9 threads, so I can change my @gmail email to an @icloud email, but, I would still have to use gmail to retrieve all my email? Would I lose all my purchases from iTunes I have made over the past 12 years?

Is this US only? Danish AppleID won't allow icloud.com as AppleID :(
A German one worked.

seems you need to sign out from every single service

[doublepost=1509532547][/doublepost]next week I will be still signing out...And after the change you have to sign back in with the new id! Will take forever, I think I'll keep the gmail one.
You can sign out and in *after* changing it ,too. Thats's how i did!

Now, if we can only combine separate iTunes accounts and iCloud accounts...

Ok, maybe I’m stupid.

But when I first started it was with an iPhone, and back then I used a @ gmail account. My the time I changed over to (MobileMe) iCloud, I’ve bought to much, so I did not want to rebuy everything.

So now I have one iCloud account, that obviously is @ icloud, and five other on my family sharing plan, and one @ gmail account that only used in iTunes and AppStore.

So will this solve my problem, and give me the possibility to transfer all my bought items over to @ icloud And will it in any other way affect my @ icloud account?

Any helpful response is much appreciated!
my understanding is more like if you had bought everything in your appleID using a gmail account. Of course, you had to create a .me account to backup your phone and stuff. This new option is to transfer your appleID account that use a gmail addy to your your .me email. Some people wants this to stop using gmail or any other third party emails and 100% rely on apple

I just tried changing my @gmaill account to @me account and got an error saying @me accounts are not allowed. It seems this is either a staggered roll outs or something is messed up.

A few years ago I changed my email address for my Apple ID from a yahoo email to a gmail. And then I lost all my purchases because it wouldn't accept the new email. I'm not sure I would risk that again.

I will take that risk.. if something goes wrong I will blame Apple

Count me as one person that this is not working for, too. I try to change it and it says that my apple ID can't be changed.

This is off topic but I read today where we can now change our email associated with our Apple ID from a third party account to an Apple email. My question is does this mean we can finally merge iCloud and App Store accounts if we’ve been using two different emails for each? For example I use a me.com for iCloud and a yahoo.com for the App Store. This happened as a result of back in the Mobile Me days. I have no purchases under my iCloud email just all my iCloud documents and such. That would make life a lot simpler if they could be merged and I could use the same Apple email for the both accounts.

Well, that was a short-lived excitement. I was under the impression I could merge my iTunes/store account under GMail to my iCloud account with everything else.

Nope. Still two accounts, just both iCloud.

No thanks.

It would be far easier to add storage to my GMail AppleID, copy everything over, and dump my iCloud account. Personally, I care more for having one account than which account it is.

gg Apple.

I have two Apple IDs, one is an @me.com that I use for all things iCloud, and the other is an @gmail.com email address that I've used in the stores for years and has thousands of dollars of iTunes/App Store purchases tied to it. Does this mean I'm able to combine these two accounts, or that if I have blank.blank@gmail.com I can create a blank.blank@icloud.com address (which I thought you could do already?)
No, you can only change the GMail ID to a NEW iCloud address.

It worked! Now I have to sign out and in from all services and devices, will do it over the next few days.

As amazing as this news is, I have a serious question.

I had previously changed my Apple ID from one third party email address to another (I still have access to them).

Ever since, sometimes when doing a restore on an iOS device I literally have to go to the Apple ID page on my PC and toggle it back and forth between the two addresses in order to get the restoration of Apps on the iOS device to finish. It will give me a popup to enter the password for ID-Name-A. I'll type the password in and it won't take it. I'll flip the ID over to ID-Name-B on the webpage, then the popup will take the password. I'll have to do this several times while my apps load.

As much as I want my Apple ID to no longer be a third party address, I'm terrified of having to toggle between 3 different "ID-Names" just to do a restore. Any idea if this has been fixed along with this?

I’m a little surprised at how confusing this change seems to be for some. Here’s what the deal is in simple:

You created an Apple ID using a third party email address. At some point later you joined iCloud. This happened for many who may have only used an Apple ID before iCloud was rolled out and who also didn’t use iTools/MobileMe. So when iCloud was rolled out and you joined in, you created an iCloud email address that was tied to your Apple ID. So basically this change is to let you change your Apple ID from the third party email to the iCloud email address you created already. It may allow for a couple other scenarios but I think the intention is that if you have, for example, and Apple ID of myaddr@gmail.com and an iCloud email of otheraddr@icloud.com then you can change your AppleID from myaddr@gmail.com to otheraddr@icloud.com. If you’re wanting to change otheraddr@icloud.com you probably would need to do it as a later step.

"Your Apple ID cannot end in @mac.com. Choose a different email address."

Thanks Apple.

Hmm, I'm a bit confused here.

I have an old @mac.com Apple ID i just signed into to make sure it still works however my 'real' AppleID has been tied to my gmail address for years.

With this new change am I able to change my 'gmail' Apple ID (with all my app, music purchases) to my @mac.com address?

Is your @me account your Primary Email? Meaning, even though @gmail is your Apple ID, do your iTunes receipts, etc. come to your @me address? Lots of people set their Apple email as their primary address, a workaround so that even though you couldn’t change your Apple ID to an @me address, you could still get all of your Apple ID-related emails sent to your @me address. It seems you have to change your primary email address, then you should be able to replace your @gmail with @me as your Apple ID.

Once this happens, the Primary Email setting disappears. I had a third-party Apple ID email that I didn’t use, my iCloud email as my Primary, and a gmail as my secondary, security email. Once I changed my primary email address, I was able to successfully set my @me email as my Apple ID. I didn’t have to log out of iCloud on any devices, they updated my Apple ID on their own. The primary email setting also disappeared from my iOS settings and the Apple ID webpage.

One thing others who have a me.com address might want to try; go to the Apple ID webpage and try setting your Apple ID to your @icloud address, then try changing your Apple ID again and see if it gives you a selection box to switch between yourname @me.com and yourname @iCloud.com. I didn’t try it this way, so do so at your own risk.

Wrong. You can’t change it to an EXISTING iCloud address, like .me. That would be merging accounts which is still not possible.

From the Apple page...

You can change your Apple ID to any other email address* you control, as long as it's not already in use as an Apple ID.

No. See my earlier posts.

I think I found the solution... I had a Gmail account as my Apple ID but am using my iCloud account for my personal email and it was also the primary email address on my Apple ID. The Gmail account was solely used for the username of my Apple ID. I too was met with the error last night when trying to switch to my iCloud email address, saying something like "You cannot use an Apple ID ending in @icloud.com."

What I ended up doing was to go into Settings on my iPhone: Settings > [Your Name] > Name, Phone Numbers, Email and changed my primary email address away from the iCloud address I was trying to change my Apple ID to. Thinking this would solve it, I then tried the switch but was met with the same error message. I then went back into Settings on my iPad, MacBook Pro, iMac, and iPhone and checked out Messages and FaceTime. I found that on my computers, my iCloud email address was checked to send and receive Messages from. Odd, because I have always left only my phone number checked, but nonetheless I unchecked my iCloud email address. I then retried the change to my iCloud email on the Apple ID site but was met with the error. I then signed out and signed back in to the Apple ID site and was then finally able to change from the Gmail address to my iCloud address as my Apple ID.

Hope this helps!
