Not sure why I can’t set up pre-order if choosing a carrier deal. Get $600 upfront, put $499 on AppleCard over 24 months, get $400 T-Mobile bill credit over 24 months with T-Mobile. Net cost $99.

On the other hand, I would be giving up my remaining 12 months of T-Mobile bill credits for my iPhone 13 Pro of around $20 per month.

Anybody know if the US carrier financing options will do a credit report query? Do I need to unfreeze my credit report accounts so that Verizon can approve a trade-in financing deal?
I am pretty sure Verizon does a credit check for new lines and also phone upgrades when opting to finance a phone. Not sure about other carriers.

I wasn’t planning on doing the carrier trade in and financing but they’re giving $1000 for an 11 pro max whereas I’d get less than half that by trading in anywhere else. Only problem is… you can’t do the pre-pre-order if you’re carrier financing.
I’m not sure it’s worth the risk of not being able to get an order in once the page goes live in the morning and the floodgates open.
This was my thought as well.

Seems like a substantial amount of money, would be worth the risk to me. But only you could answer that.

right, and sometimes never. i had a perfectly clean iphoneX and a questionable 11 which i traded in to AT&T. they assured me that i'd get the $700 credit on the promotion for both of those phones but when they received them, they were rejected and i got a $300 credit, total, for both phones. not good, but then again now i'm not locked in waiting for the credit to come in dribs and drabs.
Seems like it's better to just trade to Apple? Or is that a short-changer also?

You’re not getting a good deal with the “$1000 trade in credit” through a carrier by receiving the credit as 24+ bill credits on already inflated plans through the major carriers. It’s much cheaper in the long run to just trade the old phone into Apple or another service, buy the phone outright and use a cheaper carrier with the same level of service. I used to pay the Verizon tax and no longer do.

I still have a single payment left with Verizon. Will I be able to trade my 12 pro in early and make the payment ? I checked with Verizon support who were not helpful. Any experience in similar situations would be appreciated.

T-Mobile will give me $1,000… $600 upfront… just like Apple… and a $400 T-Mobile bill credit paid over 24 months. I’ll pay the $499 with my Apple Card at $20.79 per month. The T-Mobile bill credit will be $16.66 per month for a net payment of $4.13 per month.

Just remember: that $1,000 is paid in the form of a $27.78 bill credit for 36 months

I upgraded with the AT&T Next program for years until they "never received" my iPhone XS the year of the iPhone 11. I had tracking information that showed them receiving it at their facility but AT&T wouldn't budge.

I was forced to file a complaint with the Better Business Bureau, which caused the AT&T Office of the President to reach out to me. After providing all of my evidence to the Office of the President, I finally received my credit. I will NEVER trade in anything with AT&T again.

yeah, in my case i called them at some point after i turned the phones in but before any credit had shown up. they assured me i would get the $700 promotion for each phone. then a few days later i got an automated text message saying that my phones didn't meet the promotion criteria.

i had covid during that time and i just didn't have the fortitude to fight them. i know they do this on purpose because some percentage of people will just give up when presented with the lower but immediate credit.

so anyway from here on out i'll stick to apple for trade-ins, and i think i'll do it in-store so that there's no hidden mystery process.

Yeah, saw that. If you bought an iPhone SE3 as an interim phone, you should know there’s no trade-in option offered for it.

Thank you - but can I trade it in at a store even if the pre-order was done online (and not at the store)?

ATT explicitly told me not to bring my phones into a store after i had initiated the internet trade in.

i'm willing to believe this was a lie, since they cheat people doing the mail-in trade-ins.

That's a crock. I traded in my XR for iPhone 13 last year online, then took XR to an AT&T store and had no problem having them inspect it onsite and giving me a receipt.

I would definitely take it to an AT&T store in-person to avoid them claiming they never received it.

@yukari yeah in fact i see in apple's trade-in fine print that they are talking about a 3rd party doing the inspection, etc. so i think i'm just going to take my phones into an apple store to make sure i'm credited properly.
