The survey has more meaning to luxury Watch companies. You can’t walk into a store & buy a Rolex anymore. You literally have to get on lists & form relationships with dealers or pay 2-4x the MSRP of the watch on the grey market. It’s a bunch of nonsense. Rolex etc should pay attention to their long term sustainability, don’t they want to grow their brands. Good job apple.

that too...

2) You can't buy a Rolex these days even if you want to. I've been on the waiting list for an Oyster Perpetual (easiest one to get) for 9 months. I'm not expecting to get a call on my Daytona for at least 10 years.

What are you on about? I can walk in to my authorised Rolex dealer tomorrow and walk out with an Oyster Perpetual the same day...

This survey is utterly flawed as presented in this article, for the fact the Apple Watch is designed to eventually fail, the battery will fail and you'll have to bin the watch and buy a new one.
A Rolex is built to last generations if looked after properly. That's why it's so expensive.
Plus teens with rich parents are rarely Rolex's target market.

Not a sucker for peer pressure marketing. Still feel smartwatch is redundant smartphone accessory with tiny screen and short battery life that leaves an ugly tan line on wrist as reminder.

I can’t imagine a teenager buying a Rolex with anything other then their parents money. Also can’t imagine those teenagers would be financially successful in life with habits like that. To each your own.

American teens wearing Rolex?
This reminds me of this teen driving a Lambo SUV at high speed on a local street in L.A. and killed a businesswoman.
The teen's father gifted him the car for his birthday or something.
Where is this country heading?
Toward Mexico….a super rich elite poltical/business class and the rest of us peasants. Oh you were being rhetorical?

anyway…the Lambo wasn’t the problem you can kill someone with a beat up old mustang. Teen drivers are often reckless becasue they are teen drivers.

Also I learned there is no way to buy a Rolex now? Not that I can afford such things but wow…and we think waiting a few weeks for an iPhone is a big deal.

Teens are so lucky these days with their Apple watches. When I was a teen I only had a Rolex. What a low-tech cumbersome piece of junk.

Apple is not a conventional watch, it is more like a mini health device, phone, pda etc whereas a Rolex is a timepiece that just tells the time and maybe day and date. Can we really take these two devices as the same?

What teens — besides those of rich parents in California — are wearing Rolexes?

A lot of people can barely afford the Apple Watch - what a bizarre and weird poll.

Wait. What’s an upper income teen? Is it defined by owning a smart watch, having a job, or claiming ones parents earn more than some threshold?
Upper income teen = someone who is either a trust fund baby or has parents who don't care about splurging $1200-800 for their child's watch.

I have 5 teens working for me and they all want an Apple Watch. Their parents are all trump supporters like most everyone here but none are upper-income. I have one nice “real” watch and could buy more but I just get a new Apple Watch every year or two since the first one.

The astonishing thing is MR would create a story around such a worthless and meaningless survey. It's like saying teems prefer Tesla more than Bentley. So what?

Yes, they wear the apple watch when they have a workout...then they ALSO put on their expensive watch (Rolex, Patek, A. Lange, etc) for most of the day!

but it's not amusing to you that people in all these articles are triggered by what the articles are about? not necessarily the same people, but still. every article title is a trigger for a different group of people...
I love baiting Rolex users, because it's fun. The whole "invest in your watch" targets a specific thought process which I believe is ridiculous, and I'm always amused when I hear members of the public parroting the lines almost verbatim.

The Rolex brand is an aspirational brand, and their schtick is essentially "you've made it."

You don't buy a Rolex because it's a f*cking awesome watch. You buy it because it has a marketing-created aura that you (or your ancestors) got suckered into.

They're like the Bose of luxury watches (double ouch).

Then you’re lucky and could likely make some easy money by flipping watches :)

Although every single thing you said is correct…

Smartwatch is a handy device that ensures you hear/feel your calls/messages/timers/alarms/calendar events and that gets certain jobs done (although some require a bigger screen). It sits next to your iphone at night charging. The tan line is seen when you have to take it off to paint or do some other dirty job where you then get in trouble because you didn’t hear/feel a message/call/timer/alarm/reminder.

You obviously know nothing about watchmaking and watches. Yes, there are MUCH nicer brands, but no watch collector will knock Rolex as a brand.

I find it interesting that you think Apple people would be trump supporters. Certainly not me …

I find it amazing anyone thinks Apple watches are even particularly attractive, let alone a complement for a nice outfit.

Great tools for what they do, but on the fashion front, they are 4 out of 10 in my view.

Why just the upper teen? I don’t think many of them own Rolexes in their teenage years. Doubt they can all afford a Rolex let’s be real.

The headline should be:

Apple Watch is the most popular Watch in the world.
Or, Apple Watch is most recognizable watch Brand in the World
