Honestly I think you're better off instead buying the Apple Magsafe Charger. It's cheaper (you will need a wall plug that can deliver more than 5W, but those aren't very expensive, and plenty already have one or two; if not get an Anker one from AMZ).

End result is you will have easier charging than Lightning OR USB-C (just place the case on the Magsafe charger) and at lower cost...
Yes, you’re right. I usually just stick my Airpods on my Apple Watch charger. I’m just going to save my money.

What? Are you insane?

What do you want next, for Tim Cook to get you water from the moon?

i'm only kidding, to highlight the confusion apple created when the AirPods Pro (2nd Generation) with USB-C was released with Lossless support. They later did clarify the "newer version of the 2nd gen" has a 5GHz antenna so they are doing some dual-band Bluetooth to "get more bandwidth".

Pointless. You may as well just buy a new set.

I love using USB C for everything (my watch, my phone, etc) but $100 just to carry one less cable and still have last year's kit?

Pass.

I am guessing this means when and/if my AirPods Pro 2's lightning case needs to be replaced, Apple will replace it with the USB-C version? Apple Store no longer lists the lightning version.

Biggest issue for me: you can’t customize the standalone case with Memoji.

Probably going to pass as a result and keep my $100.

Apple isn't telling people to upgrade their lighting charge cases.. this is for those who may lose a case or need to replace a dead/dying battery.
Agreed. Not sure why people are hating on this. I see this as a possible option for a replacement case if one's case is either lost or not covered by warranty.

One could argue that the cost of $99 is too high. But that's a different question than the availability of this case as an option.

yaaaaaas. Die, Lightning. Die, die, die.

I might buy this. Or may just wait a little bit until the batteries in my Lightning APP2's start to fail and buy a whole new set with USB-C. I don't wireless charge them because they're in a case that's thick enough to prevent a good connection, and most everything else I have is already USB-C. Really, of the things I use with any regularity, it's just my APP2's, my 13 Pro, and my wife's older iPad Air 3 that's left.

See? Everyone's happy now! Well, of course, except for the Church of Lightning acolytes, sobbing into their vestments.
Not everyone's happy, if you spend that $99 on an empty case for you, and give your spouse a new Swiffer for Xmas!

Over priced and will result in yet more landfill from discarded lightening cases - great green credentials Apple

If anybody is throwing electronics in the garbage in 2023, that is not Apple's doing. Electronics can be fully recycled. No electronics should *ever* be tossed in the trash bin. They melt down electronics to recover plastics and metals in a very reliable way.

I feel bad for anyone who buys this scam.
I purchased $29 AppleCare+ for AirPods Pro 2. I had several AirPods and because I use them heavily, their battery level is always below 80% near the 2-year mark. Apple always replace them for free, and since Apple no longer lists the Lightning case, I presume I will get the USB-C case this time around.

Has anyone ever purchased an Airpods case? By the time the battery is weak, so aren't the AirPod batteries..

As a side, I wish I could use the Apple Watch charger on my Airpods case.
