nope...

I'm a registered dev too, but I didn't actively take part in the AP testing, perhaps apple are only selecting devs who helped out with the AP testing? Just a thought. Be a shame though as I'd love to test this. I have 2 iPhones, both running OS3 so I recon I could test it pretty well! ;) fingers crossed they're just slow sending out the emails ;)

I didn't take part in the AP testing but I got the invite for the AIM testing.

I tested out the AP push notification, and did not receive an email to test this out yet. I am hoping they are just slowly sending out the emails too. I would think Apple wants to stress test the push notification system as much as possible

Oh well, so much for my theory! Lol. Yeah hopefully we'll get an email soon... Seems crazy not to get as many devs as possible on this one...

Maybe Apple will see how ridiculous these pop ups are!

This is a great step, and I look forward to next Wednesday! But I hope Apple does not stop here with improving the software...

Saladinos: send a message to me: Resident Evil466 and I will send you messages.

EDIT:

Can someone check if the AIM Beta works in landscape?

Sweet! Now all I have to do is find a job so I can get an iphone! Too bad financial aid won't pay for it. Though I probably have enough money left over... hmm:rolleyes:

does push dramatically reduce battery life? just like push yahoo mail?

when I enable yahoo push, I notice a significant decrease in battery life.

According to Apple, push consumes 23% of your battery as opposed to 80+% for background instant messaging on the G1 and WinMo.

Multiple Devices?

Does any developer have confirmation if the redeem works more than once for the other devices listed on your account to use as well? Will the 10 UDIDs listed work with the redeem code?

Can't install

I've got the app downloaded to iTunes, but it will not synchronize to my iPhone. Anyone else?

EDIT: Nevermind. I've never actually downloaded an app from the desktop iTunes client before, so I didn't know you had to select the ones you want to sync.

I am really looking forward to push notifications. This really will help cut down the amount of SMS messages I use, probably resulting in a lower SMS plan.

I have it and it's OK. The first few times it took upwards of 5-10 mins for push notifications to work but now they seem to be stabilizing at around 5-30 seconds which is not bad.

it's definitely not instant but it should be ok for most people.

Yes, Landscape works, tho with the keyboard open, you can only see three lines above it.. You can click on the messages to dismiss the keyboard & click on the edit box to bring it back.

My notifications, once the initial registration lag (~5 minutes for everything to fully sync up, apparently) are now instant.. I'm getting the IM on my computer & on the phone at virtually the same time.

OK, started a chat with myself via Adium (also lets me test timing of notifications).

Sending one after a long idle period takes about a minute for the iPhone to get the message. After that, for a while, it's instant (i.e. a second delay max). After a while, it goes back to idle mode and takes a minute to receive new notifications.

I really do wish Apple had adopted a notifications system similar to the Pres. The way the notifications just stack up at the bottom of the window on the Pre is so elegant.

I can already imagine how annoyed I'll get from all the IM popups that the iPhone won't let me ignore!

I think a better stress test might be a Twitter client like TwitterFon in conjunction with an account that follows a lot of people.

I like how the beta AIM suggests that you text people for free and it even tells you how to do it. Suck it, AT&T.

Well then dont enable the pop up. To me, if i hear an AIM sound from my iPhone and see a number 2 on the AIM icon thats enough for me

For you people complaining about the pop ups.. (<<<that sounded rude ha ha..)

I was under the impression you could turn those pop ups off. Or if you can't, that's the developers fault. Who wants to clarify things for me?

You can enable or disable sounds, badges, and popups, and it's also per app. So some apps can be set to popup, and other apps can be denied popups.

Ok got the e-mail and all is working fine here.

First thing i did was turn off the pop up, now i just get the noise and the button on the apps icon.

I would have kept the pop up if, after i slide to unlock, the app didnt automatically open.

Only other little bug i have found is if you have multiple messages waiting, when you open the app it makes the new message noise x the amount of new messages you have again (it also makes the phone vibrate each time aswell!)

But aside from that its a great app, just what i have been wanting. Now just need to wait for Beejive to launch their push update and ill be happy :D

Not many people i know use AIM/iChat. Most people in the UK use MSN

Thanks
Scottio
