You can enter the code on a iPhone running the 3.0 GM seed to download the App.

EDIT: No you can't. It downloads but quits at the end of installing saying you need to connect to a PC. Bugger.

i need help. i tried to enter the code on my iphone at work, and it downloads but quits at the end of installing saying you need to connect to a PC. now when i try and download it form itunes it says "This code has already been used...." now my appstore app on my iphone keeps popping up with an authentication window, but i can login fine and download other apps from it.

Hi, I received a code and mistakenly input it via my iPhone. It said the app will be available in iTunes on my Mac. When I run iTunes the app is nowwhere and it won't let me put in the code in again. Where do I find the app?

i called my buddy and used his redemption code and installed it via itunes, he is still on 2.2.1

You guys need to check for downloads in iTunes on your Mac, it will start downloading once you do.

Meanwhile, I haven't gotten any kind of notification since installing and don't really use AIM all that often. If anyone wants to send me an IM to see if it is working my screen name is mksaga.

Thanks

I dont think that this testing is really as representative of what it will be like when 3.0 goes live to the public. Hence I can see the first few days / weeks being a bit rough until everything settles down.

Hope I'm wrong and it goes brilliant but thats my gut feeling.

Probably right. One needs only remember Mobile Me's introduction to be wary of anything new Apple releases. Besides, you have to crawl before you walk. Right now, Mobile Me has a nice gait.

Wouldn't it be cool if 3.0 was released early...just because... you know, surprise people. I think it would be fun.

I read a tweet from someone at WWDC who said that Apple announced (at the Notifications talk) that if your phone is off / out of signal, Apple only allows for one notification to be queued. I think that's pretty poor.

i want to know (sorry if anyone already asked/answered) if push is going to be available for GMAIL. Or will I have to continue to wait 15 minute intervals still?

Your confusing push notifications, that allow apps to appear to run in the background via a sound played, badge on the icon, or a popup like a text message. Push email is different, that requires work on googles end for true push, or apples to allow imap idle.

Not a big IMer but I have installed AIM beta. The most exciting thing I've noticed in a cursory look around is the fact that you can send an IM to anyone in your contacts list and it will convert it into a SMS text and the reply from the recipient sends a SMS text that is converted back into an IM. This means you get free texts (not that I do that much texting either).

Unfortunately I can't see the jerks at O2 here in the UK letting this feature onto the iPhone... but who knows.

Att

I bet AT&T will not allow this app to be downloaded until next year...

ROFL......

These popup notifications that I have to dismiss are terrible! Really, ***** pop-ups that I need to dismiss while I am using my phone? Interrupt whatever I'm doing? Apple, are you kidding me? How could something like this have come out of Apple??

I can only imagine how terrible this would be with AIM.

does push dramatically reduce battery life? just like push yahoo mail? when I enable yahoo push, I notice a significant decrease in battery life.
That's the beauty of the system. Once you have a single push thing going (like push EMail if you already have that set up, or push AIM) you have established the single persistent connection it requires. Now you can add as many more as you like without affecting battery life! So add a dozen more IM apps, games with notifications, news, financial, no effect on battery. It's a winner.

Uh....yes it's one persistent connection but the more apps the more data packets the more battery life gets used. It's better than having multiple connections open but don't make it sound that having 10 apps with notifications will have same impact on battery life as 1. That's not true.

Serious battery drain

I was invited to join yesterday and signed up last night. I accidentally left myself signed in overnight and despite no IM activity overnight, I awoke to find I had a completely drained battery. (It had been fully charged before hand.) I submitted a bug report to Apple, and they have asked me to enable Battery Life Logging. I am trying to recreate the scenario tonight. We shall see if it happens again.

I installed this today, but alas, I don't have any buddys. Anyone care to add me?

My screen name is wholybee.

It appears that Push Notification drain the iPhone's battery much fastery than true multitasking....

Just great.

Same thing happened to me yesterday. Unplugged my iPhone and started up AIM Beta with Push and full battery, 4 hours later I get the 20% battery warning. Apple said we'd only lose 23% total battery with PNS, seems like a lot more than that...
